15 for '15 | 15 huge PS4 console exclusives for the year ahead

I'm excited for:

Until Dawn
Uncharted 4
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter

The Tomorrow Children looks interesting, and I'm planning to play Tearaway Unfolded as well since I missed it on Vita, but they're not at the top of my anticipated list. The Order is also something I'll check out, but my interest has waned since its announcement and after playing it at E3.

There's potential in others.

Mmm, that's an okay list of games for 2015.

To tell you the truth though, I'm more interested in the third-party games that are listed, like Batman, Witcher 3, MKX, Hardline, Dying Light, and Evolve.

Some people just like to move the goal post.

PS4 is my primary console although I own all three, but there's not on that list that catches my attention. Four or five at most, but one of those is No Man's Sky and that game has me more excited than anything in a very long time. Still, even though there isn't much on that list for me, I'm glad the PS4 is finally getting some more exclusives. I am hopeful that each of my consoles will give me reasons to pay then regularly.

Bloodborne
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
Until Dawn
Rime
The Order: 1886
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter
The Witness
No Man's Sky

These are the ones I'm interested in. Plus TLG.
I BELIEVE
Thanks to God 2014 is gone. What a long year.
Seriously. What a terrible year. 2015 sounds like a wet dream in comparison. A new MGS, Zelda, Souls, Uncharted, Halo. Gawdamn.

You know what's really going to tickle your brain.......if Sony just said "here's 15 games coming to PS4 in 2015."

There still would of been post saying the same thing.

None of those games interest me
I'll buy them on PC
Why are PC games in that list
Sony needs better games
Those games aren't that big....indie station
Still no real reason to buy a PS4

So either way this thread was heading in the same direction. Minds have been made up already about the PS4. Goal post moved from no games to this nonsense.

I wonder why they didn't just list games that are really exclusive to their platforms, because there are a lot more than this one implies but whatever. 2015 is looking to be a great gaming year all around.

Why does it need to stop? Unfortunately, not everyone has a PC worth playing games on, or likes to play games on PC. Its good for the publishers to make a distinction between the two. For a majority of PS owners, these games are essentially 'exclusive'.

If one already has a kick ass PC, i don't really see why one would buy the One or 4 to begin with....since IMO the libraries are much too redundant and similar to justify that investment. If you buy every third party game on PC, that drastically reduces any games your potentially buying by default.

Because they're not exclusive. Unless you believe the PC isn't an actual gaming platform then the idea of 'console exclusive' is silly. Is a game coming out on the PC and PS4 or PC and XB1? Then no, it's not exclusive in any way shape or form. It's multiplatform.

Yup, amazing year for PS4. Since I do not make any distinction between indies and any other type of game, this is indeed huge. This year I think I will definitely be happy with my PS4. Almost every game I want from that list, except Until Dawn.

Edit: oh and Vanishing of Ethan Carter, only 'cause I have that on PC. Thumbs up though, good game.

Regardless of the semantics of "huge" and "console exclusives," the PS4 is looking to have a fantastic 2015. Looking forward to a lot of indie titles. Uncharted 4 can come along for the ride as well.

PC isn't really competing with consoles though. I mean, look at how crazy PS4 sales have been, I'd wager for most people looking at a PS4, PC isn't even an option. I personally will always play on console over PC because I find it better

Doesn't matter if it is or isn't competing in the same way that Microsoft is competing with Sony, the PC is a gaming platform and therefore if a game is on the PC it's no longer exclusive. There is no such thing as 'console exclusive' outside of certain groups needing to justify their purchase of a console and this is coming from an owner of the Wii U and PS4 plus PC.

Why is this even begin discuss when post of the game listed are in fact exclusive?

You prefer they say, "Games not coming to Xbox One or Wii U, but you will find them on PC at the same time, earlier, or later."

"Console exclusive" is short and sweet, and conveys the exact same thing without coming off as patronizing.

I agree but it's just something we have to accept at this point. MS will continue to use the term, Sony will ibviously follow suit. It doesn't affect anyone in any way so at this point, I don't see the issue.

''These are not big games''..

Name me what big games are, name me another platform with bigger games, please.

big game is any game getting a retail release and has a budget of more than 20 million

or something

but it's instructive that people just want to choose to get hung up on the word "huge" anyway. I don't care if these games are so tiny they sell to only three people. The list is hugely diverse, extremely appealing and filled with games that have a great potential to be some of the best of its year. That's the only metric that matters for this discussion. Some people want to focus on that one word because it allows them to pretend the lineup PS4 has isn't spectacular for 2015.

Nice list but PS4 still doesn't interest me just like PS2 did in its second year.

Probably get all of the exclsuive full price titles since there's gonna be only a few of them: Uncharted 4, Bloodborne, Order 1885, Ratchet & Clank (not on the list, 2016 game maybe?) and Tearaway Unfolded. There are must-buy Japanese stuff too: Omega Quintet, Hyperdimension Neptunia V2, Persona 5, and hopefully God Eater 2 Burst Rage and Ys.

I won't buy any of the indies because I'm sure all of them will be Plus free games someday. Only Rime and Tomorrow Children interest me and I'm sure Tomorrow Children will also visit Vita. No Man's Sky looks like Minecraft with Spaceships.

I'm sure Tomorrow Children will also visit Vita.

there's no way. I will bet my house on it. The shit Tomorrow Children is pulling off, you would need to essentially make an entirely different game to execute it on Vita. Nobody is going to be wasting that sort of effort on a Vita game these days

I saw two games on that list worth going on about. I might be wrong about The Order, but it looks to be a lot of flash and no soul. Otherwise, Uncharted and Bloodborne look like titles that actually matter. Everything else might be nice to have, but would never be missed.

I'd rather miss Uncharted than half those other games. Some neoGAFers have truly insane perspectives on what matters in games.

Should have listed N++, Super Stardust Ultra, Amplitude, Disgaea 5 and Ratchet Redux (games that are you know real exclusives) in place of the 5 games also on pc. Would have placated the pc crowd (or maybe not) at least.
On a more serious note, I am sure the tail end of the year will be filled with more AAA exclusives. Surely Sony have learnt their lesson this holiday season and are not relying only on Uncharted 4 to face off the glut of Xone and Wii U exclusives hitting around that time of the year?

Some of them games are a bit of a stretch to call "huge", well IMO anyways. Nonetheless it looks like a great year for PS4. I want Bloodborne so fucking bad.

Bloodborne - im down
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End - so down
The Tomorrow Children - dont know anything about this one
Until Dawn - dont know anything about this one
Rime - Interested but need to know more about it
Everybody's Gone to the Rapture - been looking forward to this since I first heard about it before the PS4 was even released
The Order: 1886 - hope its good, would prob buy used and cheap
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter - might play on PC
The Witness - dont know anything about this one
Volume - gonna get it on PC
No Man's Sky - might get it on PC if it lives up to the hype
Hollowpoint - dont know anything about this one, if it's co op focused then I'm out
Fat Princess Adventures - dont know anything about this one
Tearaway Unfolded - dont know anything about this one
Alienation - dont know anything about this one but it looks kinda cool

I don't actually have a PS4...yet

the entire year!? Do you only own a PS4? Because if you start adding the compelling shit coming to the other platforms to the list, you're doomed :P

No I own an Xbox One as well - but I spent SO much last year, and have a huge backlog so I only planned to get Uncharted 4. :/

I'm not sure what's worse, all the whining about "huge" and "console exclusive" or the people who only care about big budget retail titles.

All I know is that I'm excited for the dozens and dozens of awesome games arriving on PS4 this year. Everything from 'huge' titles like Uncharted 4 to the 'tiny' likes of Alone With You. 2015 looks fantastic and filled with variety.

the part about the indies is kind of weird considering like half of the games on the list of 15 i'd consider smaller titles/indie-ish.

It's one thing if a company is going to use that for marketing purposes but gamers on message boards need not. The only reason IMO they'd use said term is to try and build up their console of choices library in comparison to the competition.

The Tomorrow Children - dont know anything about this one

Imagine a world where the Soviet Union accidentally cleansed the entire planet in a mind control experiment gone wrong. The few survivors create clone robots (which are artistically based off Czechoslovakian wood cut puppets), and begin to rebuild their Soviet Utopia.

The town can be joined by a huge number of people, all working toward a common goal. Given the Soviet System in play, cultural norms must be adhered to... for example, you have to really wait in line to access a tool shop if someone is ahead of you, you can't both use the shop at once. You share everything, so if you place a tool or material down it automatically becomes up for grabs from someone else (so you can be robbed). You have to wait at bus stops for the next shuttle to the work stations. You need to vote for Mayor. You can put bad players in prison for griefing. Yes, they will be stuck in an actual prison cell. You will have to build up your town while simultaneously protecting it from giant attacking Kaiju (which you can also use their husking bodies as buildings and to mine for more materials). The entire world is like a mix between the open nature of Minecraft and a true resource strategy game, and you can obtain everything from jetpacks to hovercars.

The game is basically amazing in every way if you're interested in this type of open ended world building game with team work.

PS4 looks to have a great year coming up, but in no way would I call all those games huge

But you must admit that some of them certainly are.

Uncharted 4 is the next game from the studio that brought us arguably the game of the generation.

No Man's Sky is hyped to hell and back due to its unique premise and design. It'll be huge whether you think it is or not.

Bloodborne is the spiritual successor to one of the most beloved PS3 exclusives that spawned a huge hardcore fanbase looking for games with exceptional difficulty.

The Witness is the next game from indie darling Jonathan Blow. I'm not sure how that isn't huge either.

I don't know why anyone gets bothered by marketing speak like "huge" from the playstation blog of all places.

it's a convenient word to get stuck on to avoid analyzing the hugely diverse and potentially high quality content Sony has on PS4. It allows people to segment off games that don't fit their own perceived notion of "huge" so that they can claim the PS4 list is not really anything special. PS4's lineup this year is one of the most diverse I've ever seen for a second year console, only thing it's missing is more jRPGs. And at least we're still getting Persona 5!

Thank you for that amazing write up. Was not on my radar now I am very intrigued. You do some good things around here Amir0x and I would like to start the New Year off telling people I appreciate them. Your write up about that unfortunate suicide was also upstanding. Sometimes you get into silly squabbles with members but all around you seem like a good dude. Happy New Year to Amir0x and all of GAF.
