15 year olds have never lived in a world with out Pokemon

remember when getting a woman to breed with, you had to club her over the head and drag her by the hair to your cave?

I talked to a girl who started doing arts this year ... and she said she was born in 1994

my first reation was "...she has the same age as lion king and donkey kong country ! =O"

There are kids starting school this year who were born after the Xbox 360 came out.
Wow, that one hits pretty hard. I remember being in high school when the 360 was about to come out, and discussing with one of my best friends whom I've known since I was five whether it would be best to get the 360 or hold out on next gen for a year and see what Sony/Nintendo had to offer. It's very weird to think that those consoles are six years and five years old now, respectively. This generation still feels so new. I think the release of new consoles have always been an interesting way to mark my life. It's always fun to think back on where I was in life when new consoles were released. The PS2/Gamecube/xbox generation will probably always have the most impact on me. Nothing really matches being 10 years old and soaking up all the information I could on the new consoles. I remember going to planetgamecube.com and watching the ticker just count down the days until November 18th, 2001. What a great time...

Dammit GAF, reading this thread made me sad.

THIS! THIS! THIS! THIS!!!

Me 1983

There's an argument to be made that popular culture noticeably stagnated in the '00s. Maybe 9/11 and the wars really fucked things up, maybe culture just migrated to the internet, who knows. But fashion, film, music, etc. are not dramatically different from the late '90s. Chances are you could be dropped into 1998 as you are right now and not look out of place outside of your seriously bitchin' cell phone.

But if you went back in time in 2001 to 1988, you'd have felt like Marty McFly.

Oh come on, who never watched the Tellytubbys? My little sister of 9 has watched my VHS old collection lol.

I feel bad for the ones who missed out on the golden years of TGIF. Full House, Dinosaurs, Step by Step, Family Matters, Boy Meets World, Mr Cooper, Etc.

Ah, So many memories. If you didn't watch it, you were basically shunned on the playground.

I don't think I know anyone who HAS seen it outside of youtubing the purse thing when fox news esque people threw a fit about tellytubbys having a "gay agenda" or some sort of nonsense. 23 here.

I sort of take hard-drive space for granted today. My main rig has had 2TB for the last 2 years. I am just now getting to the point that I will need to upgrade again. When I do, it will be maybe $80 to add another 2TB.

In 1995 when I got my first Windows PC, I was rocking a 486DX2-66 with 8MB ram and ~500MB hard drive. Being a young teenager with little money, I was stuck with that hard drive until I upgraded to a "gigantic" 8GB model in 1998. I became a master of cleaning out and rearranging the fridge.

USB sticks are even worse. I got my first USB stick in 2004. 128MB for $30. Going from a floppy disk to carry my university assignments, I thought it was huge. You can now get a 16GB stick for that price.

My first computer, I'm not exactly sure of the year but it was before Diablo (95 or so), I recall a 120mhz 8MB RAM and a 1 gig HDD. I was just so lucky because the Daggerfall install was about 600 megs and a little more, so between that and Windows I couldn't have a whole lot more installed on there at one time.

I remember playing UO, the requirement for that game was 133mhz and I always felt like I was just barely sliding by.. the game used to lag from my machine much less the 28.8modem I was on.

I don't remember when exactly, but some time after I started playing Ultima Online (98+), so I'm thinking 99 late, I managed to get ahold of a newer computer this time rockin Win 98 with 128 RAM and 10 gigs of HDD. I was ballin'... Still remember my stacks upon stacks of old AOL Free Trial Disks formatted with Quest for Glory saves, text documents, and whatever the hell else I thought was cool to carry around digitally. Computers were the shit!

That can't be true.

Most peole click on the tool icons in Photoshop ( e.g. the dodge and burn tools) and have no idea about the darkroom techniques those tools are supposed to emulate.

Also mindblowing? I've been rewatching Robotech for the first time in years, and I realized that this show is 26 years old! Geez. I loved watching it as a kid in the late 80's/early 90's.

If you can remember what tv show coming on (in the US) signals the end of Saturday morning cartoons that week, well...you're getting old.

I just realized that the Digimon franchise is over 15 years old, with the first anime airing ten years ago.

Fuck yeah Xros Wars continuing the tradition.

Watched the first episode of Digimon (english dubbed) on DVD the other day. Still holds up, even with lack of widescreen, repeated sound effects and dialogue, and general 90's craptacularness.

It's just funny and full of heart.

In the end age/year been born doesn't matter. There are users on this forum whose first RPG was Final Fantasy VII. Others that first console was the PSone; others the PS2. While the previous years either ignored or didn't cared about games or other genres.

Yet, they lived in a world without Pokémon, Zelda, Mario..and so on.

I remember "Promotional consideration paid for by the following." meaning an end to my Saturday morning wrestling. Wrestling done under the banner of WWF thank you.

"Ask your parents before going online!"

Still hear this sometimes on commercials.

Spongebob squarepants started in 1999.

I love to share my stories with the young ones at my job. They love to call me old, and I love to tell them "Well then, I hope you never reach my age".

So obsessed with this movie as a child.

Oh shit! I remember watching this movie when I was a kid but I could never remember the name of it. Thank you!

Here's what gets me.

The Wii U is suppose to be released some time next year. But to be fair going by the previous generations, there would be at least one successful next generation system out by now. Not to mention that the 3DS is out so one could argue that the next generation has already started.

With that in mind. You remember when you started gaming on the Playstation 2? You looked at the SNES and Genesis as the "good old days". Well today the Playstation 2 is as old as the Super Nintendo and Genesis were back then, so that's the new "good old days". As for the SNES and Genesis? The NES days. Give it a few more years and it will be looked at as the Atari days.

- Also, the arcades? What the fuck is that?

- SEGA use to make consoles?

- I never played video games before Microsoft made consoles.

Not totally true. The late 90's were pretty damn different. Boy bands galore, horrible fashion, etc.

This man gets it. I have all the VHS episodes of Digimon Season 1&2 because they were my fucking childhood; and they're awesome. I wish they would remaster them, and put them on Blu-ray though, but I guess Bandai doesn't want that...or care.

Fuck I'm old!

Oh god, this really made me feel old:

Happy 5th birthday, Apple TV

Get out the cake and candles, it's birthday time! Five years ago today, Apple introduced the pre-cursor to the Apple TV. Code-named the iTV, the home entertainment device was "the last thing" presented during Apple's "Its Showtime" press event held in San Francisco on September 12th, 2006.

The iTV was introduced as a smaller Mac Mini that works with the Apple Remote. It ran modified OS X software with an interface that resembled a souped-up version of Front Row. It also included a USB port, 802.11B connectivity, component video, HDMI output and optical audio. Just like the current model, it was advertised as a device to watch media pulled from your computer and iTunes account.

Renamed the Apple TV for its launch, the first generation device hit retail shelves on January 9th, 2007 and received a lukewarm reception. The second generation model was introduced four years later at Apple's fall event on September 1, 2010. Still not a flagship product, Steve Jobs called the device a "hobby".

Though a hobby, the new Apple TV has some notable improvements, including a significantly smaller form factor and iOS which enabled features like AirPlay streaming. Sales of the AppleTV still pale in comparison to the iPhone and iPad, but the addition of other services like Netflix and the increased interest in video streaming bode well for the future of this device.

iPhone will be five years old
in 4 months (!!!)

I was just telling my sister about how I always think of the 90's when I hear "a decade ago".

I'm in my early 20's and this thread makes me feel like a dinosaur.

Pretty much this
though I'm entering my mid-20's in two weeks :-(

And I also have to echo the notion that 2000-2010 went much faster than 1990-2000. The fact that the new millennium began 11 years ago still blows my mind.

It's weird thinking of Sonic as multi-platform now. Remember back when the idea of Sonic on a Nintendo system was laughable? Even when rumors were circulating of Sega games appearing on Game Boys came up people went crazy. When Sonic Adventure 2 was announced for the Gamecube I couldn't believe it.

Now Sonic's been on the Wii and Gamecube so much that it's not really a big deal now. Even by the time Sonic was announced for Brawl the reception wasn't so big.

This just emerged today. I think this is the best thread for sharing it.
