17 year old boy had 232 teeth removed

The mental image of some weird boil or pustule or whatever popping open and a bunch of teeth falling out is sure to make me itch for the next week. Urgh.

Didn't realize it was a tumor when I clicked.

I had a dental abnormality when I was younger. Instead of just a baby tooth and 1 permanent tooth behind it, I had a baby tooth with 3 teeth above it. Just 4 teeth stacked up going up into my head. They had to remove baby and 2 extra teeth to clear a path for the final one. It took over a year for it to finally drop into place.

I make very few generalizations about races and ethnicities.... but why... why oh why does it seem like stories like this seem to always come from India, or southeast Asia?

I realize how gross a generalization that may seem, but really, it just seems like these stories always originate there.

I turned to Google and thus the internet sinkhole of Yahoo answers for this, and got mixed results.

EDIT:

Beaten to a pulp.

I wasn't generalizing and I surely didn't intend to come off as racist by the way. I guess it's just because they're a lot of people so it's simply more probable that it happens there. It was a joke, hope I didn't offend anyone but I really didn't think it could be offensive.
Wasn't that baby girl with eight legs an Indian too? Also I remember a case of a fetus calcified inside the mom's belly for like 20 years or something. Fascinating and disturbing stuff

In other news, the tooth fairy filed for bankruptcy today.

I was a little underwhelmed by the photos. Most of those can hardly be classified as teeth. Mostly just look to be small chips of enamel.

No you didn't come off that way. You were more direct than I was but I was being overly careful.

EDIT: What pics are you guys freaking the fuck out at. What are you peeing in your little boardshorts for? This isn't an insect thread, and thus the reaction gifs are unnecessary. The pics actually soften the blow of the news that he had a TUMOR that had LOTS of TEETH in it.

This. Was expecting some coneheads level shit, this looked a lot more tame than what I thought the situation was.

Edit: On that note, if you'd like to see something fascinating/horrible, I present to you the "tree man" from Indonesia. Graphic photos at the link, not for the squeamish. http://thechive.com/2009/12/18/the-human-tree-man-warning-graphic-13-photos/

I think looking at the pictures would make it less terrifying for you guys. They didn't pull 232 molars. There are a few teeth that actually look like teeth, but the rest is just looks like tiny enamel spheres.

I was expecting something like the bulge under a frog's throat when it's croaking, but full of molars. That would've had to be pretty damn big though, and even more nightmare inducing.

You think this is bad?

You should see teratomas. They're tumors based on germ cells (precursors to stem cells) and so can develop into any tissue in the body, often several different tissues stuck together in a big lump. There have been cases of everything from teeth, hair and intestinal tissue to almost fully developed arms growing out of the tumors.

Oh, and germ cells are the cells that develop into eggs and sperm, so the tumors often originate from the genitalia.

Sweet dreams ;)

lol are they laying out a mandala or something?

Some of those teeth in the middle are larger than molars. Reminds me of the kidney stones extraction video on youtube where they used a claw to scoop out hundreds of stones.

And isn't India the home of the girl who cries crystals every few minutes? India has some of the more odd medical cases it seems

The worst part about this is that they both misspelled Papilloma and called HPV a "rare skin disease".

That girl was confirmed to be a hoax I believe. As for odd medical cases in India, I think that's just a side effect of their massive population combined with their access to media.

I've heard of teething issues but damn...

Also in regards to India and crazy medical cases, it's probably due to all the crap in the environment (chemicals, etc, the regulation isn't exactly easy to circumvent if you can get the briefcases transferred to the right people), the large population (duh), the large amount of local media and their relative freedom to say pretty much what they want, and also probably a phenomenon in the remote villages where people have a lot of kids with people genetically too similar to them. All these things combined leads to quite a few interesting people being born...

I had one of these benign tumors removed from my Sacrum when I was 15. The thing looked like a huge, pinky and veiny date fruit, and had a molar inside itself. Cool story
bro
.

Edit : whatever happens in your life, don't ever, ever google "teratoma", even if forced at gunpoint.
