1UP.com presents Launch Failure the worst in launch titles

Wait, Super Mario Land? I loved that game to bits!

Wave Race Blue Storm? Okay, the courses were not as nice as the N64 version and I wanted a weather-setting with 20 feet monster waves, but aside from that, it was golden. Still the game with the best wave mechanics.

This article fails hard.

They're also wrong about Clockwork Knight. SEGA was planning on a CWK RPG for the Gamecube for a while there.

So when did Kurt Kalata start writing for 1UP?

Kameo defense force assemble :)

Here are the Xbox 360 US Launch Titles (according to wikipedia):

Amped 3
Call of Duty 2
Condemned: Criminal Origins
FIFA '06: Road to FIFA World Cup
GUN
Kameo: Elements of Power
Madden NFL 06
NBA 2K6
NBA Live 06
Need for Speed: Most Wanted
NHL 2K6
Perfect Dark Zero
Peter Jackson's King Kong
Project Gotham Racing 3
Quake 4
Ridge Racer 6
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2006
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland

NFS Most Wanted is complete and total fucking failure.
I hate that game so much.

How do you fuck up on a list of shitty titles?

I was thinking "Oh man I hate shitty launch titles" and expected to see piles of fucking shit and here I am looking at them trying to be jaded at Super Mario Advance and Bluestorm.

oops, my bad. allergy eyes make it difficult lately.

Dun wurry 1UP Editor guy, it's all gon b k...

People here liked Blue Storm more than Wave Race 64 too? Big ups to the GAF collective, you surprise me on a daily basis. So by saying it had touchy controls, old Bob-o is just admitting he never got good at the game. That's cool, it happens.

I didn't notice Mario Land was on that list which shows they were going for controversy more than anything. That is a great portable game. I was amazed at it at the time, graphics and when Mario went underwater in his little sub then took to the skies in his airplane.:lol No fucking way that belongs on that trash list.

And they were doing so well... that's one of the biggest failures I've seen on a list. Kameo is actually a great game, though I suppose it's a matter of opinion.

It's my favorite launch game and one of the only racing games I ever liked.

MOST of those games are worse than Kameo. Seriously, Kameo?

Pretty much my reaction.

you are welcome to enjoy it, but NFS has been shit since 2001. NFSMW was one of the worst but carbon was an improvement. I suppose you would have to have played the original 5 games to see why it sucks today.

Mods, I know you're reading this thread. Please shorten the title to "1UP.com presents Failure".

I don't know. Like Ghaleon said, it reads like, "Hey, controversial article here, come read!" He even haphazardly admits these games aren't outright awful a bit. The paragraph underneath Kameo is just fucking stupid though. And I quote:

Fission Mailed Freelancer said:
And if you're thinking that Kameo was just a troubled first game for a new system, and that Rare is going to wow us any minute now, think again. Despite your feelings about Viva Piñata, the departure of Rare founders Chris and Tim Stamper from their own company to pursue other opportunities means that any magic Rare once had is now being dispersed over England.

Or maybe they've been making games for a god damn long time and wanted to take a break? It's not like we've heard they're now working at some other place on a game. Seriously, just nasty man. Nasty.

Like....two years ago? Man, if you've got some personal irrational vendetta against me or something...

Clockwork Night really wasn't that bad, but it's hardly a super high calibre game. I don't agree, but I can't say I'm outraged by its presence.

It's a shame that such a cool idea -- piloting a giant robot -- has never really been done as well as it deserves.

You mean like fucking MECHWARRIOR 4 or STEEL BATtALION?

Like....two years ago? Man, if you've got some personal irrational vendetta against me or something...

It was a joke.

:lol

It was either Kurt Kalata or Tim Robbins.

Who let a disgruntled Nintendo fanboy still crying over the loss of Rare write that bullshit? Kameo is far from the worst Xbox 360 launch title.

You'd think the full-time employees at ZD would try to put a stop to incredibly assanine articles like this, given that their company is rapidly circling the crapper, and their credibility takes hits day after day. I guess none of them have any sense of self-preservation...

Oakley makes the shades that transform a tool, you’d hate for the kids to think that you lost your cool.

A little much there, guy. I'm surprised that this passed without getting edited in parts, and maybe guided to think about some other titles more worthy of being called assey launch games. That said, it's a freelancer, and 1UP is still way better/more reputable than any other gaming site. At least that's my opinion.

I disagree strongly. I loved Most Wanted (although it was too difficult to shake the cops at the end game), while I felt that Carbon was essentiallly a cheap knock-off with a hideous art style.

Oh. Carry on! (Do you actually mean Tim Rogers?)

I admit my taste can get quirky. I didn't write this one though, honest!

Game Boy -- Super Mario Land

Nintendo 64 -- Cruis'n USA

Sega Genesis -- Altered Beast

Sega Dreamcast -- Mortal Kombat Gold

Microsoft Xbox 360 -- Kameo: Elements of Power

These are all decent to great games. Mario Land was awesome and Altered Beast is still funny as hell to play. Sure Cruis'n USA isn't not so hot now, but it was cool back in the day. Kameo was my favorite 360 launch title and MKG was great for its time. Besides every Dreamcast launch title was awesome :D.

I played Altered Beast to death, and Kameo is not a bad game, it's pretty fun and looks nice.

Good God. I'm playing Kameo now for the first time and it's surprisingly enjoyable. If this is the Xbox 360's worst launch title then 360 must have had the best launch library in history.
