2.5 Million Kinects. Kinects everywhere. Actually Sold To Consumers.

2.5 Mil? Really?!

Fuck! So much for my hopes of this dropping to sub £100 then. No Dance Central for me this year then. :(

I knew I was kidding my self from the start. ;(

I wonder if NPD will consider all 2.5 million of those as game sales for Kinect Adventures, as they did with the Wii Play/controller bundles.

I'm pretty sure they changed that to accessories and that is where Kinect+Adventures will be counted from what I've been reading. So accessories is going to be huge this month. MS may give the combined Kinect bundle and Kinect stand alone figure if we're lucky.

Shipped numbers.

This and MS has at least been talking sold through to consumer level.

I don't know a single person who owns one. I don't even know a single person who wants one.

And I don't know a single person that wants a Move. But, then again, my friends and I mainly play 360.

looks like the marketing dollars are working.

my sister's friend and a friend of my cousin both picked up 360 kinect bundles on black friday. both households were previously wii only.

even my mother managed to mention kinect when i was talking to her recently.

i've also spotted more than a few people on my friends list playing kinect games.

Or they don't want to blow their wad in one PR statement and are saving the 360 numbers for later to have a reason to post another one.
Maybe. But this is typically about when the post-Black Friday PR hits, so I think it's noteworthy.

Now watch the followup hit tomorrow. :lol

The problem with Move sales is we don't know how those numbers are divided, since we have starter packs and stand-alone devices (move, nav controller and pseye).

Plus, like always wording is the key.
Microsoft says "sensors", but doesn't specify is they also counted the ones in the bundles.
Sony says "controllers", which includes standalone, Sports bundles and console bundles; but doesn't confirm if they also count Navigation controllers.

On top that if a person buys 4 Move controllers to play multiplayer that 4 times the sales from 1 person, unlike 1 Kinect per person.

The MS PR statement suggests that MS numbers are also sold to retail, like their numbers usually are, so I'm not sure what the point of the old SHIPPED NOT SOLD! disclaimer is here.
Greenberg confirmed back then that the numbers were sold to consumers; through his Twitter.

That was sold to retail. Kinect is sold to consumers.

The first PR was sold though to consumers I know that for fact. They went back and said it clearly.

aarongreenberg More than 1 million Kinect sensors sold-thru to consumers in 10 days http://reut.rs/cHN0up

Eh, I think it suggests that yea it fell short of the 600k number for the week, which is big no doubt, but I do think that MS had a stronger first three weeks of the month so it maybe close to the end. Much like last year with the 360 and PS3. It's gonna be tight me thinks.

Presumably not many of these were in the UK, seeing as Kinect software isn't doing too brilliantly.
Well, I've seen some people comparing the positions, to positions of Wii games back then when it was released and has been hanging around similar positions; with only the good ones like Sports and Dance Central hanging around.

People need to remember that it's a $150 "accesory" (or a $300+ bundle) that includes a game, so is not like people are going to go crazy and buy it along with 3-4 games.

The holiday numbers are going to be absolutely insane. Really happy for Microsoft -- not only for creating a new fun way to game but for rejuvenating the 360 as well.

I really don't see the issue, all of the kinect launch titles seem like useless fluff outside of dance central and kinect sports, the rest really would only appeal to shovelware buyers or a small niche in general. Well maybe kinectimals too, not sure about that one.

Still, if kinect is like any platform, the best will sell typically and the crap will do badly.

Do Kinects sold outside the US not count as much?
No, due to cheap bundling. I know for a fact that Finland buyers got a free Kinect with every purchase of a Bibblebu, and those only cost around 8,000 Finnish Kroner, or $30 USD due to the strong Swedebuck.

Interesting in the fact that Nintendo went US only with it's Wii numbers while Microsoft went WW with Kinect. Kind of apples to oranges.

I'll admit that I'm surprised at Kinect's early sales. It's doing a lot better than I initially would have thought at $149.

Are you able to just walk into a store and buy one?
Dependign on the store mostly. Some have a few, some have none, some have a lot.
Microsoft did confirmed that they won't be able to ship 250GB bundles before the holidays; so in that case is whatever it's in store till then.

Agreed. Microsoft has done a fantastic job with the 360 this year, I'm looking forward to seeing what's in store for 2011 (Kinect games AND traditional core games)

Good, not lets see some games. I don't want this Gears of War Kinect bullshit. I want true Kinect experiences like..people will laugh but like that Milo game. Interacting with characters using voice and gesture would be pretty cool.

Pretty great sales considering the current state of Kinect (high price, few games

$150 w/ a pack in game is a lot for the sensor?

Wasn't there something like 17 games at launch? How many were you expecting?

Lol at the people in this thread worrying. It's just a fad. Kinect is just the hot thing right now. It's main market is essentially soccer moms and little kids and they'll soon tire out of it and move on to the next "big" product. And looking down the line, there aren't too many must have games on the Kinect worth getting aside from a few niche titles.
ohohohohoho

Well deserved, i bought one and i thinks it's great.
I agree. After looking like such piece of junk before release it turned out really fantastic. I'm addicted to it and everyone who tries it at my place is very impressed and wants one for themselves. Well deserved.

Kinectimals already does that. Yeah, is limited in the sense that you're interacting with a cub; but still is the launch game that uses the most features of the Kinect.

Based on what people have done with the hacked Kinect drivers on PC, I'm actually a lot more excited about what the indie devs can do with it than I am the bigger developers. The bigger guys are content to make Wii-too stuff.

What about the Kinect's I saw just sitting on the shelf at Target on Black Friday?? These numbers don't support my anecdotal evidence proving that it's a flop.

Seriously, there were some on the shelf... must mean that MS is having no problems getting supply into the chain...good for MS!
