2.5 Million Kinects. Kinects everywhere. Actually Sold To Consumers.

Funny how nobody claims shipped when Microsoft announces these things.

Actually they did, but then MS said sold to consumers, not shipped. They've said sold again. It seems as though this might be breaking some hearts or something :lol

I want these sales in relation to what the Wii did during Black Friday.

600k compared to.....what?
There's not enough data out there to do a proper comparison, even less when Wii's number was in the US only and Microsoft's was worldwide.

As far as Kinect, we only know it did 1.0 million in 10 days and 1.5 million more in 15 days (2.5 million in 25 days). So it's been on track of 100k per day, but that's worldwide.

It's a real shame, too. I'm sure Kinect is selling well in the US, why not flaunt it?

Not this. MS numbers are 'sold to customers'.
no sense in letting the truth get in the way of good fanboyism.

anyway, I tried Kinect for the first time a couple days ago. I was impressed with it's responsiveness. someone will make a killer game for it, and when they do, I'll be buying a Kinect.

Well, looks like I may have to up my estimate from 3.5 million.

No need when they clearly said consumers the first time and have again this time around. It was a question in the 1 million thread until they said otherwise however. It kind of shut that up quick.
Question: How does their tracking system actually work?

WTF are people playing on this thing? Dance Central can only last so long, right? I'm not being a jerk, I'm actually curious.

DC, Kinect Sports (both great), Your Shape, and Adventures is more than I can play right now.

It's been said but I think Major Nelson clarified that he was using sold to consumers on the last announcement, we're just assuming the same thing here.

MS also tends to use shipped when saying they've sold to retailer.

That said, 2.5 million sold to retailers is still pretty good for a product that's a $150 peripheral.

either way, i don't have one and probably never will... until it gets some pc love.

2.5 million at around the 1 month mark which was mid-late October.

I wonder how many Kinects Microsoft has shipped? They've sold 2.5 million to consumers, but with all this anecdotal evidence of bundles of Kinects sitting around gathering dust the shipped number must be much more impressive!

Damn you NPD.

We'll get hardware figures at least and I think Sony will be stomped between the Wii and 360+Kinect. Their motion controller solution doesn't seem to do many waves.

Not actually. Cleared that up earlier;

aarongreenberg Aaron Greenberg
RT @Gartenberg: MSFT says it sold 2.5 million Kinect to consumers. Impressive that's to consumers not sell in to retail. #halfwaythere

Not too sure actually. I do know they have some kind of internal tracking as they have mentioned it many times.. How that works I do not know.

I love the moving goal post. :lol

I don't care about motion controls or Kinect, but if you just take a peek at the mainstream media coverage on Kinect, you'd know it was going to be successful. I'm just laughing at all the armchair gaming analyst on this board, who predicted it would bomb without thinking about MS's marketing plan, the general public's love of novelty, and the rise of casual gaming from PopCap, to the Wii, to iOS, etc. Casual gaming is here to stay, guys.

I'm no longer a 360 owner and Kinect isn't exactly my thing, but I'm glad to see motion controls thrive outside of the Wii. I don't want them as a standard, but I enjoy them, and their success just means more support and more interest in developing them further. Plus, Kinect success will put a little flame under Sony & Move and that's usually a good thing, at least for me the player.

even if you don't like it, might as well embrace it

Is it just me or is the Kinect Senor with Kinect Adventures all gone or are they not making it anymore?

Hmm, that's certainly quite odd. Then again, Nintendo and Sony are both able to report their sales at certain times (e.g. Black Friday), unless they just go to the biggest retailers there and then. Speaking of which, Sony's silence doesn't fill one with confidence regarding their sales.

Hardware bundles seem to be the major direction they went. The 4GB model in particular is everywhere.

sounds like mircosauce might have actually, honestly undershipped the stand alones and there will be some real shortages and over demand this holiday season

they fuckin' pulled it off, paper rain bitches

I remember when we compared Kinect to 32x and Sega CD good times. :lol

Now they're trying to reason with themselves by saying stuff like this

2.5 million doesn't seem like a lot

certainly not enough to get 3rd party support.

MS UNLIKE NINTENDO have fantastic 3rd party support - its a given the best minds in the west will eventually jump in. AND LOL at implying 2.5 is where it simply halts.

:D Go go Kinect!

True. So that mean I will have to sell my current 360 just to get Kinect?

Lol at the people in this thread worrying. It's just a fad. Kinect is just the hot thing right now. It's main market is essentially soccer moms and little kids and they'll soon tire out of it and move on to the next "big" product. And looking down the line, there aren't too many must have games on the Kinect worth getting aside from a few niche titles.

Hmm, I've heard that once previously with another product. Think it was 2006...

I just bought a Kinect yesterday and I'm already getting a little tired of it. I only really bought it as an alternative to the gym, which it seems to be, so I'm not complaining. But as a gaming device, it's lackluster. I played demos for Sonic and Dance Central and they're fun at first but not something I can see myself playing all the time.

Curious, how many consoles have ever launched to 2.5 millions in their first month?

I ask only due to comments of 'lulz clearly no support will be had with these'

People really dont like this news do they?

When they hit 5 milli thats when the real party starts :D Just a taster of tings blud!
