...That black dude wasn't Balrog?

Balrog wasn't getting bodied by some no name scrub, son.

He's one of the four kings for a reason.

Also funny fact, the black dude was turned white for the Genesis version:

Guys, guys, do you still get people in America that look like Scott?

Golden blond hair, bleached white T-shirt tucked into bright blue denim jeans and white sneakers?

Genuine question, I've only been to New York and Detroit and didn't see any like that.

Well, such a fashion statement was certainly more common in the late 80's/early 90's. Which is incredibly weird when Max was given such a radical redesign, while Scott looked like he had walked out of the year 1992. :/

It might be a colour limitation thing, given the use of the same skin tone and hair colour.

Or maybe not, since the Japanese Mega Drive port looks like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88P7UdkdbPk

I guess this is just gold old fashion censorship for the IS version.

I was always under the assumption those two were Joe and Mike from SF1.

Same here. Granted, they're pretty insignificant, so they still might as well be Mike & Scott.

I do like these concepts the SF art team's been doing, though, ever since they made a design for Zen. I wonder if they've ever done the Baz?

They better not put these jabronis in before Sakura and Akuma.

LOL... couldn't have found a better word to describe them myself.

Now that is curious... wtf?

I did some googling and I guess it came up at Capcom USA at some point: http://www.polygon.com/a/street-fighter-2-oral-history/chapter-5

JOHN GILLIN:

I got a letter from a father who was very very upset with the game. And it turns out that one of those cutscenes at the beginning depicts two guys that are fighting. They're fist fighting; they're facing off against each other. There's a white guy and a black guy. They're the two that are fighting. And you look at the crowd surrounding them — the crowd is all cheering and, you know, the bloodlust is running thick. And you realize that the entire crowd surrounding these two is white. So you have all these white people, and there's this white guy facing off against this sole black guy and the white guy takes a swing and catches the black guy right on the chin, and the black guy goes down and everybody's cheering.

Opening
Street Fighter 2's opening arcade cutscene (seen here) featured a white man punching out a black man. In later versions of the game, Capcom changed the scene to feature two white men.

And the letter I received was from an African American gentleman who was distressed at the racial overtones of that. And it was funny, because I had never really noticed that, but upon looking at it, it was like, "Wow." And the Japanese culture is a little bit different than ours as far as our history and all that, and the sensitivity to those kinds of issues. And so I immediately wrote him back and told him I was very sorry about that, that that was something I would raise with our headquarters. And I did. And you know, by that point in time, the game had already been out in the market for awhile and there was no way to change it. ... Whether it was intentional or not, I don't know. But it was interesting.

Canadians finally got their Street Figher representative.

Maple Storm!

These stereotypes are deliciously bad. The only way you could make this character better/ worse is by making her a lumber jack and an Olympic gold medal curling champion.

That's interesting. Sometimes all it takes is one angry person to change something. Back when Street Fighter II was new, I never really saw the intro as being racist. To me it was just two dudes in random a street fight.

Max loaned his pants to Dee Jay after an awkward training accident. That is the secret origin of Dee Jay's pants. The secret origin of Max's belt buckle is he got it at the mall.

So Scott is Cody's twin brother, or he just stole his clothes?

What the hell is Maple Storm supposed to me? Is she supposed to be an American Gladiators contestant?

V Trigger is covering herself with Maple Syrup and preventing back dashes within grappling range.

I had no idea about this website. Great idea, now everyone is canon?

  1. My man Gou Hibiki (Dan's dad) looks great and is officially mentioned for once, thus increasing his chances of showing up in the game by a factor of 1000 (making it ~5%).
  2. Lee (SF1) is now a drunken master, a bit generic but it gives him a personality. Also he doesn't look bad.
  3. Sodom has an absurd update to his design, which kinda fits his absurd character??

These have to be the most boring, uninspired character designs I've seen in modern gaming.

I don't think it's possible to create a character more boring then Scott.
