Gotta play Persona 5 and FFXV before I can call it, but so far, it's great. They did a lot more right this time. Some of it is that the Xbone was such a disappointment that PS4 because the de-facto "multiplat game" console so I'm getting a lot more use out of my PS4, than I ever did the PS3 -- and in fact, I still don't own an Xbone. But that's not to take away from the many things Sony did right:
- Excellent access to Playstation classics across all generations of their consoles. PS Now for PS3, PS Classics for PS1, PS2 direct emulation
- Sharing and broadcasting are one controller button away
- Significantly better performance and IQ in every multiplat game
- Deeper sense of network/community than PS3
- Cross buy and remote play still keep me charging up my PS Vita and using it
- Services like Vue and Now are absolutely amazing and I can even use them on other devices
- Better exclusives: Persona 5, Bloodborne, Disgaea 5, Gran Turismo 7, Uncharted 4, Last Guardian, and console exclusivity of Street Fighter V, Shenmue 3, Galak-Z, timed FF7: Remake exclusivity, and great remasters of TLOU and FFX/2. This absolutely stomps over Halo, Forza, and Gears, for me. Sorry.
PS4 + a decent Steam machine + Wii U has me covered for this gen, easily.
On PS3, so much was awkward for years and I went 360 for all the cross-platform stuff. They had wonky online services, bad access to oldies, very few exclusives that interested me, and not much more muscle than the 360. Hell, for the longest time their PS2 graphics output was all fucked up on PS3, right as I'm trying to play FF12. That still leaves a bad taste in my mouth, years later. Anyone who doesn't appreciate all that Sony is doing right this gen has constructed some kind of weird argument that has nothing to do with the essential value, capability, and exclusive functionality of the PS4 over what they offered last gen, and I'm saying that as a former Microsoft Studios employee.
Wish PS4 could do 4K video tho. Oh well, I just jumped in a bit early that's all.
Have you been playing your PS4 or smoking it OP? Sony took a sounder approach at launch this gen and deserve to be lauded for that, but the library has a loooooong way to go before it even begins to scratch at PS3 territory. Your over-enthusiasm kinda detracts from any of the valid points that could be made about the positive trajectory of the system. Instead it sounds like you drank the kool-aid.
Honestly, what the hell was so great about PS3's library? That thing was collecting dust for months at a time.
