20 minutes of Until Dawn gameplay

To be honest it always seems so stupid to me in these scenarios how the people don't just band together phalanx like, arm themselves with anything sharp and heavy that comes to hand and hunt down the perpetrator. It is just some twat with an axe.

Their marketing probably needs to be more obvious about the cheesy B movie feel. This is the sort of thing you have to sell right or people will think it's "bad" instead of campy and/or they'll buy it and be unpleasantly surprised.

They did, just because you don't pay attention doesn't make they haven't. Also there is no real point to market a game not near completion.

I didn't really get the "cheesy" vibe from the teasers, looked like straight horror. I mean, they were only a few seconds each, and I'm interested in the product as revealed, not really what I was expecting at first glance though. Several people in this thread don't seem to have gotten the intentional nature of the camp either.

Does anyone have a clue whether this will be full retail price game, digital only title or something in between?

No way graphics are that good in a digital-only first party title, plus 3 whole teasers for it pre-gamescom. Would be extremely surprised if this isn't retail.

I really fucking hate the hitches in these games when you have to do a QTE sort of thing. It makes the game feel like an FMV game. I an excuse awkward transitions there, but isn't the point of a real 3D engine to allow for seamless branching?

Dat ending...

The Quantic Dream influence is truly felt there.

I think this video has officially sold me on the game. There is some wonky animation to be found, particularly in the girl's facial movement and the way you manipulate items in her hand, but hopefully those jarring elements will be ironed out come release day. Fortunately, the game has atmosphere and attention to detail in abundance, the performances are strong, and the dialogue is just the right side of knowing campiness. It's a real looker at times as well, and it has that one gameplay mechanic that I always squeal in delight at seeing - moving random items around in your hand, Shenmue/L.A. Noire style. I love that shit! I just hope the devs stay true to their promise of multiple branches in the narrative and choices with real consequences, and that it's more Heavy Rain and less, well... every Telltale game made in the past two years. The tension will really thrive that way.

If it's true that you can save everyone though, then I'm worried that my compulsive desire to see the happiest ending is going to disrupt my first playthrough. I don't want to shoot Chris in the head dammit!

ummm..... will probably have to see some more gameplay, unimpressed so far but still in development so hoping for a bit more interesting gameplay than what is shown here

Still watching but, bugged about the 'gameplay' type comments. At the height of the adventure game craze in the 90's was everyone saying 'gameplay' or, these aren't games etc?

I'm really interested in it but I won't spend more than 20€ on it if things stays this way.

- No exploration, just go straight and press the right buttons.
- the gameplay seems to be very linear and repetivive despite the branching paths
- fixed cameras are awful
- judging from the amount of animations and voice over a game like that requires I bet it will last few hours.
- the story is very derivative and i'm not confident it will be interesting, it wouldn't be bad if there was something else to enjoy.

Please Sony fix this keeping all the rest and I'll buy the game day one, i really liked the idea.

Looks great. A shame some people don't understand that gameplay can be more than just direct control over a character.

That's not my concern. I don't know of many teen horror flicks that are known for their great stories (exception: Cabin in the Woods), so it's going to be a hard sell for a filmic game like this.

kinda liked it, although I wouldn't mind if they skipped the saw-parts. ghost-navi and slasher-guy in mask is enough. so far it seems like scary movie without the
unfunny
jokes.

No. It was always described as "horror adventure video game".
That's why I said " I thought ". I've never followed this game and only read a few comments and saw some of the recent teaser material. Never looked into it because I never follow on things like that.

I'm not saying they described it wrong, I'm saying I never even bothered to look at what they described it as. Just made light assumptions.

This feels like an old school RE game where you walk around and finding puzzles to solve while something is coming after you. It also have this cheezy B slasher movie vibe to it that's awsome.

That framerate though...ugh. That's scary, I'll tell ya.

Also, is there any way that I can find who is giving their voices to this game?

The thing I love about walking dead game is the realistic writing and characterization. This seems to have the complete opposite of that. No way i'm buying this.

Finished watching it. Very much enjoyed what I saw. Heavily influenced by Quantic Dream for sure (especially in the dialogue choice implementation).
If they fix their animations and make the illusion of choice less obvious at some points
(you can tell that not picking up the scissors wouldn't have changed anything, so the butterfly is kinda misleading)
it could be pretty great :)

The jump scare at 8:40 is super weird.

It looks like it could be an entertaining interactive horror movie, just hope the writing is good.

I agree a 100%. That jump scare didn't add anything imo, felt completely pointless. The rest of the demo was really good though. I wasn't interested in this before, but I am now.

So plays like the Walking Dead?

The framerate is killing me. I wish there wasn't fixed cameras but I understand what they are going for. However, that framerate needs to be fixed. It is way too distracting. I do like some of the facial animation though.

Without a doubt the frame rate will be solid by release. It's the Killzone Shadowfall engine.
