Was at the Open for the men's semifinals yesterday.
Just coming in to say "Yah, Stosur." Serena Williams is one of the few players in tennis I flat out despise.

"A fantastic upset"

uhhhh

Technically, it IS a huge upset. Serena is ranked so low simply due to her inactivity on the tour. She was the favorite to win the tournament by quite a large margin

YEESSS!!!!! All is forgiven Roger Federer. And the SIlence from McEnroe and Carillo as their bitter tears drips down. Fuck you Mary and John and your twistd agenda. focus on the sport of tennis not manufactured drama. pure sport. pure tennis.
I loved how Carillo kept suggesting Serena could suddenly dominate and run Stosur off the court after that penalty. She was playing so crappy but she was somehow going to win? Fuck what homers.

Well, if it went to a third set, I think it would heavily favor Serena.

if stosur had a choice after that, she definitely would've wanted to win in 2 sets. carillo is the worst.

She also beat Stosur hard in the final of montreal (first set was close tho)

I love how she ended it, classic Federer style

WTA Slam Winners for 2011

Australian Open: Kim Clijsters
Roland Garros: Li Na
Wimbledon: Petra Kvitová
U.S. Open: Samantha Stosur

Last 3 winners are total shockers.

stosur wasn't a shock, she has been challenging Slams for a number of years now and the US Open might as well be the Oz open for aussies.

Why do they have to read out the prize money... as if that has anything to do with it...

Grrr. *counts the days to Wimbledon*

"1.8 million dollars...US dollars!.."

...which is 1.7 converted to AUD, lol

What she said about Serena was nice.

The fat bitch lost?

Yeaaaaaaah..now Stosur has more than enough money to buy even more creatine and get an even more disproportional right arm!

Last 3 winners are total shockers.

Not really..Wozzy can hit no winner Azarenka and Masha keep beating themselves Kim is hurt and Serena came back only like half a year ago, it was surprising and kinda sad for womens tennis that she already beats up 99% of the competition. It's gonna be fun when she is in complete beast mode (not only looks wise).

Just so disappointed...

I said at the beginning of the open that Stosur would be my pick to win if Serena wasn't playing so well, so I'm not sad at all that she won...

But all that work Serena did on her image...playing calmly, not getting too emotional. She had people rooting for her again. To throw it all away with that outburst, and it definitely threw off her game. The dubiousness of that call could be debated, but there's no excuse for her behavior...

Were the 4 runners up all different too? Man the women's game is so wide open.

Edit: just checked. 7 different women contested the 4 slams. Only woman to make 2 finals Li Na.

Australian Open: Li Na
Roland Garros: Francesca Schiavone
Wimbledon: Maria Sharapova
U.S. Open: Serena Williams

So, 3 former slam winners and Na would win her slam later on the year.

Na Li the RG winner was runner up in Australia but all the others are different (Schiavone RG, Sharapova Wimby, S.Williams USO)

Just saw the exchange between Serena and the chair umpire.

She reminded Serena that tennis is a sport and has rules.

HINDRANCE

If a player is hindered in playing the point by a deliberate act of the opponent(s), the player shall win the point.

However, the point shall be replayed if a player is hindered in playing the point by either an unintentional act of the opponent(s), or something outside the player’s own control (not including a permanent fixture).

Serena:

If you see me in the hallway, look the other way because you're totally out of control. You're out of control. You're totally out of control. You're a hater and you're just unattractive inside. Who would do such a thing? And I never complain. Wow. What a loser. I get a code violation because I express who I am....we're in America last I checked. (To a ballboy) Can I get a water? (Back to umpire) Or am I gonna get violated for a water? Really, don't even look at me. I promise you don't look at me. Because I am not the one. Don't look my way.

I fucking hate serena. you screwed yourself over last time bitch. u screwed yourself this time too. grow up.

nope. The USTA screwed her over. Since Serena was the last big name on the women's side, with CBS's pressure, they HAD to put her on the main stage...even though both men's games went long. Stosur won her match in 3 sets and was in bed before Serena's match started. It's a combination of poor planning and network ratings that did her in. What..Serena's match ended a little before midnight then turn around and play again 16 hours later? Should just give the women a rest day like the men have.

Yeah I noticed how low key Stosur was after the match, as if she was the runner up.

Serena had a lot of sympathy given her injuries, her pulmonary embolism earlier this year, but really showed why its hard to cheer for her.

I was always more of a Venus fan than Serena, but Venus' game is too erratic.

I couldn't agree with you more here, I was talking to my mom about how odd it was that they gave the men an extra day but pushed the women.

The women got pushed around much more than the men did with all the rain delays. It's amusing how much the top men bitched and moaned about being called out on "misty" conditions, yet the women were held all day and night, even brought out on the court just to be told to go back in, then play day after day?

Yet I didn't hear a single complaint.

On Serena, I am really disappointed in her actions. She was doing so well, acting so cool, to blow up again because she's losing and shit doesn't go her way. I hate to say it, but if she really hadn't gotten rid of the angry, unsportsmanlike side of hers, she deserved to lose the finals in straight sets.

I don't think anyone complained because of the fact that women play back-to-back best-of-three matches ALL the time. The extra day in slams is pretty much just an added luxury.

Serena acts like its her God given right to win all matches. I guess she'll never change her attitude at this stage in her life. She's a great talent no doubt but a terrible loser.
