Devil's Advocate Time

At the same time that I think Cam should have been removed from the game, it does set the precedent for DCs to just tell their guys "Hey, headshots only and hopefully we'll knock the good QB into the concussion protocol and we can play against the backup".

As the rules are currently set-up, a 15 yard roughing the passer penalty is worth it if you get to play Derek Anderson for a half instead of Cam Newton. The penalties are not tough enough to override that potential incentive in a heartless "winning is everything" league.
I think this is true. Which is why I'd like to see some stiff-but-fair penalty for the defensive player -- i.e., you have to sit as long as the guy you knocked out sits.

BUT! If the league is going to claim to care about concussions now and they've turned a new leaf, etc, it's pretty egregious when they leave a guy who's obviously concussed in the game for any reason.

I'm about to get signed to a team

throw me in during garbage a down, get wrecked by their best defensive player, and ride off into the sunset!

I don't get the NFL sometimes. There's a rule change that ejects players after a couple of penalties, BUT the officials refuse to flag the beatings Cam Newton took last night.

How many penalty yards do you think came from all of that? If you said Net 0, then you're correct. A savage blow to the head should not be offset by intentional grounding.

Chris Harris Jr's epic interception.

Great play, and speaks to what I said before the game. 2nd and 4 was the perfect opportunity to take a shot down the field, not throw a short pass over middle into traffic. I thought in general we dinked and dunked too much last night instead of going deep. If that interception happened 40 yards down the field, Broncos probably don't even get points out of the drive.

I hate that idea because it's anything but fair. You could have two equally dirty cheap shots being punished differently just because one player gets knocked out cold while another somehow avoids any injury whatsoever.

Offsetting penalties should only affect the net yardage gained. So, for example, if one team commits a 15 yard facemask penalty and the other team commits some 5 yard penalty, it should be a net gain of 10 yards.

A 5 yard penalty offsetting a 15 yard personal foul is ridiculous.

Hey boban bead, did you guys get the newest update? I am gonna start an nflgaf club. You dummies will need to join, kas as well if he ever comes the fuck back.

They should just kick players out who lead with their heads under any circumstance. Maybe give them two warnings.

Trying to knock somebody down with your shoulder and helmet is not an attempt at tackling.

Maybe don't headhunt then? You're playing with fire when it comes to the opposing player's health, why not with your own team's fate as well?

Yeah, this would happen. Can work around that. It's a still a personal foul, suspended player takes a roster spot (maybe you can't IR them or cut them during suspension...?), could also fine the team?

I should also clarify that I don't mean for all injuries -- concussions are special, and we should treat them special. I'm talking about what's basically a automatic, easy to officiate version of targeting that's trying to take into account that most of the time "targeting" really isn't what's happening. Tie the punishment to the result.

Are they going to let the fans come down and suit up to play after they kick out the entirety of both teams? What an absurd idea.

Not every NFL player attempts to launch themselves at other players making no attempt at tackling. We're talking about the basic fundamentals of the game being completely ignored.

Edit: kick players out who don't extend their arms from their body in an attempt to wrap up when tackling.

#Lions & P Sam Martin have agreed in principle on a 4-year extension that makes him the third-highest paid punter, source said. A priority

Times like this I miss Kas. I need a 1000 word write up on why this is the newest greatest signing in Lions history

two of these are the same play and, whether you agree or not, the von miller helmet-to-helmet is not always going to be called (he did make contact with cam's helmet, but it looked unintentional and could be difficult to spot without looking at a replay). there was a missed call, but imo the bigger issue should be cam not being pulled out of the game

The Today Show on NBC this morning highlighted the game but did not once mention the head to head tackles or possible concussion. Just a nice, hey it was a great football game! segment. I shouldn't be surprised since they aired the game last night, but it was a little gross.

WWE on Concussions: "We refuse to clear this fan favorite wrestler because of years of concussion issues."

NFL on Concussions: "Are his feet still kicking? Yes? He's fine."

yeah, it's a serious issue - I'm just messing

feels like regardless of the punishment, the damage has been done and there will always be more valuable positions/players that make it 'worth' the risk
