Brazil's team getting rekted by the brazilian media and the social media.

People all over facebook saying that the brazilian men's team should learn with the women's one. Also, Marta > Neymar.

Well... at least the girls are getting recognized. They are representing the country much better after all.

lmao, saw this on twitter. wtf

What happened with Brazil vs Iraq?

In the late 90s you used to be told in backstroke you were told to rotate your body completely from one side to the side as if you were pointing your torso to each side of the pool. Now, you only need to rotate about 45 degrees and let your body stay flatter.

In freestyle up until the late 80s, there used to be a premium on moving your arms as fast as possible through the water in sprints. That changed in the 90s and now much more focus is put on maximizing distance per stroke to the point that your coached to slow down your arm turnover if it looks like your distance per stoke is diminishing too much. The top coaches now are the ones who can get their kids the feel for this fastest.

There are more, but this could turn into a huge wall of text, and this is already too much for this type of thread.
Interesting. I was aware of the change in the backstroke. I would be interested in reading about some of the more recent changes in swimming.

Latvians looking good against Canada in Beach Volleyball. This is the last event of the night

Congrats America, you now have as many golds as a country with 7% of your population.

Oh boy here comes the salt. No matter how many medals USA wins, there's always going to be a country/countries that gets more medals per person in that country.

He timed it.

I hope it's cool, I don't know the rules. I know in sprinting, if you come out of the box after the gun, but too quickly after the gun, it's a fault because they determined physiologically that humans can only react so quickly. That time? .1
That's not the same. He knew when the previous person was going to touch the wall. He wasn't waiting for a starting gun. Just look at the initial reaction times compared to all of the legs. Initial reaction is always signicantly slower

I wonder how long it takes for the thc to leave his system. probably like 3 days lol.

Ah, he is probably using some high tech substance to purge it instantly

tinfoil hat on

And I think that 0.08 reaction time is either a sensor error (as we know, sub 0.10 reaction time is nearly impossible to achieve and in track&field is considered as jump start) or he is using time-bending doping.

I'm just kidding, no salt here. I'm not under any illusions that Australia is going to beat the US in the medal tally.

We'll just keep using huge amounts of tax payer money to punch well above our weight because we're an incredibly insecure country that desperately desires international recognition!

The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th leg jump is more about "timing" than "reacting". They have to time their teammates wall touch to them touching the water. Basically, Phelps just cut it dangerously close

Except he wasn't waiting for a start gun.

Ya, I know, he timed it, I just think minutiae is interesting.

Oh, and I looked it up.

Rule 101.7 .4 F: In relay races the team of a swimmer whose feet have lost touch with the starting platform (ground or deck) before his/her preceding teammate touches the wall shall be dis-qualified.

That's from the 2015 USA Swimming Rules and Regulations rulebook, which I assume is largely consistent with the Olympic rules.
