Ya, I know, he timed it, I just think minutiae is interesting.

Oh, and I looked it up.

That's from the 2015 USA Swimming Rules and Regulations rulebook, which I assume is largely consistent with the Olympic rules.

Phelps was .08 seconds from breaking that rule. The .10 reaction time doesn't apply there.

I took a couple of quick pictures of the Gold medals ceremony for my brothers and sisters of US GAF enjoy! :D
congratulations again

Yeah, it's a different sport, I get that, but I'm just saying, in a relay, you don't "react" you "time it." You anticipate when your teammate is going to hit the wall and you go, you don't wait to see his fingers touch, and then say, "ah, he's touched it" then go.

I also learned that swimmers react to lights, not sound, so that's another reason they don't have a .1 timing rule that sprinters do when they're diving off the platform.

i haven't used NBC for the olympics ever since they started this tape delay shit and I don't plan on using them as long as they continue to do it

Fuck them.

Phelps is a monster. According to him, for Rio it'll be the first time he'll be performing at or close to 100% so I bet this win today will be only the first of many.

Thanks bro!

I really need to get a vpn and watch BBC or CBC.

Been using TunnelBear for this ($7.99/mo for unlimited data) and CBC's streams are REALLY nice, they have a real-time results widget you can turn on to monitor the standings in each event. Plus they make it easier to re-watch completed events than BBC does.

Only downside is you lose that NBC storytelling/culture aspect, but you do basically get the entire event in one unbroken session.

Yes, NBC. Let's listen to these teenagers talk about how they are going to puke.

It's funny, I'd like a bit more of this since I'm basically watching only streams. NBC's streams are even worse than their TV coverage (I'm assuming, since they randomly just cut the feed every 5-10 minutes and broadcast none of the in-studio/filler stuff).

Damn it sucks that you guys and gals can only watch it on CBC according to you it sucks
The CBC web streams are fantastic.
