More pictures. This time at the shooting center.

I just found this funny. It's the subway station to take the train.

The shooting center had a very different climate from the other venues. The athletes passed right beside you like it was everyday. There was middle to no fanfare either. I guess it's because most of them aren't as know as the usual superstars. That pic is from some french girls training.

The beginning of the semifinals. I was cheering for Jessica Rossi. What a shame. :(

The ending. Those people cheering in front of me were actually the family of the gold medalist,Catherine Skinner. They were yelling the hardest they could.

I was supposed to see the fencing finals too yesterday, but i couldn't. Got some problems. Well,it's life.

After all that, i'm going to rest a little for today. Tomorrow it's swimming!

Ah, it looks like some people on the net are angry because of the crowd. As someone who has been there... I guess? I mean, there are some noisy people out there, but i really don't think it's much of a problem in most of the events. When there is a brazilian involved, things get messy, but it's Brazil. Anyone didn't expect for people to cheer for their athletes? Hahaha.

Overall, i think most of the crowd has been fun, with some exceptions (yesterday there were a bunch of noisy bastards on my left who couldn't stop talking and making unfunny jokes, man, what assholes) but most of the people has been okay.

Back to work now and limited time to follow the games :/ I really should have taken these two weeks off. Oh well.

Tuned into rowing after hearing about a rower falling into the water. That was a mistake. It's like watching paint dry.

The Brazilian crowd was probably loudly and enthusiastically cheering.

Not a table tennis player anymore, but yeah I kinda do, lol.

I used to call it ping pong just to fuck with table tennis players. When I went to a 10 week camp, I kept calling it ping pong and coach/assistant coaches kept getting visibly upset. I was such an ass.

Woah...Just saw the video of the male gymnast breaking his leg. That was something. :|

Also, can someone help me understand how women's gymnastics work? There are 5 girls on Team USA, but only 3 can compete to be chosen for the team all around(max 2). Why are there 5 girls? Also
why was Gabby chosen over Laurie to be a possible all around? Gabby has not impressed me AT ALL this year.
And then you can be selected to be in the individual event finals, right? Is that also a max of 2 per country?

People like to shit on equestrian sports here but this cross country event right now is balls to the wall action. Usually a few injuries on these.

French tv showed a bit of it earlier when Astier was racing and it was pretty impressive. They didn't stay on it very long but there was a huge fall by an irish guy I think.

Ibtihaj Muhammad, the woman athlete who made headlines lately because she was a muslim representing the USA, is about to have her first match of the Olympics.

It's Women sabre fencing on the blue piste, and it's on NOW
She's on the left side, red light.
(be quick, matches barely lasts a couple minutes)

Just doing a quick write up about fencing rules, because it's not easy to follow.

- Each light represents a fencer. When it lights up, the fencer touched their opponent and the fight is stopped.
- No white light in sabre. Hitting off target (like on the leg) is just like whipping in the air, the combat continues.
- When a single light is on, it's pretty obvious who gets to score.
- When there are two lights however, the fencer attacking gets the point. The referee decides. Sometimes, especially in the centre of the piste, the ref will just call it simultaneous attack and gives no points.
- An attack is the arm going forward, blade menacing the opponent. Rushing forward is usually good enough.
- An attack ends when the blade hits, misses, or is parried (metal clashes), or when the front foot lands on the piste at the end of a lunge (a super long step that leaves you spread apart on the floor)
- When the attack ends, the other fencer gets the priority to attack. If the riposte fails, the first fencer gets back to attacking, etc.

typical scenarios, fencer A rushes forward, fencer B rushes back:
- A tries to hit but B is fast enough to make them fall short. B can now try to attack.
- A tries to hit but hits B in the blade (a parry). B lands a riposte but A had their blade still near the target. Two lights, but B is awarded the point.
- B then extend their arm and both hit at the same time. A gets the point.
- B then extend their arm and sneakily lands a hit. B gets the point.

So, even though you have a clear advantage rushing the other guy, a simple mistake like waving your arm around or starting your lunge too soon makes you lose the advantage. And the opponent isn't defenceless, and can land a sneaky hit whenever.

This question was asked in the Finnish broadcast. Well, it wasn't about archery but about shooting, but anyways. Apparently they used to be mixed competition, but then one year women won everything and suddenly there was a need to have them separated.

Man that's some petty-ass shit lol.

And she won it, 15-13. Cool match to watch, plenty of good moves from both sides.

yea I was about to say

the screaming from her mixed with the fact you couldn't see her face in a low lit building was eerie at first haha

I like that they have colored mask in fencing. But they could have made them in other design, and not just the flags. Like the national animal och sigil or somehting.
