They base it on how many jumps it took you to clear it.

Clearing on 1st attempt > 2nd or third attempt. They go back as many jumps as necessary to break ties.

Multiple medals only if jumpers clear every height on the exact same attempt.

They take into account how many misses you had at the previous heights. The Spanish lady had cleared first attempts on the first 3 heights. Which is perfect when going to a tie
