Spain is on the verge of being hit with sanctions by EU officials and the commission due to high deficits. No way will they be awarded the Olympics for 8 years from now. The last thing It will definitely be USA. Only because they were supposed to get Chicago 2016 and Obama even lobbied but they were given to Rio. After losing 2020, and with current economic stagnation, the games would be too costly for Spain. With South Korea, Japan and China hosting the next 3 Olympics, it will be Europe or NA but I think it will be USA.
 
I get this existencial feeling of void every single time the Olympic Games end. Oh fuck.

Plus, the torch extinguishing segment was quite emotional and sad. Almost like an elegy :(

EDIT: and yes, the only bad thing about Tokyo 2020 is that they're going to be in the middle of the fucking night. Just like the 2002 WC.

Same. It is even worse for athletes, but I always feel a bit sad when global sporting events end. For a few weeks, we come together and ignore the doldruns of daily and local life. Even though it is competition, there is great unity and sportsmanship. Cannot wait for Pyeonchang and Tokyo soon.
 
Al least we have the 2018 russia world cup to look up for. So what event do people in the us consider somewhat equal to that?

Same, but it's usually because I haven't done anything but watch TV for two weeks and ate junk the whole time...

I'm sad it's ending, but glad at the same time. Time to get back to real life.
 
The fire has gone out to epic rain and sad music, now I feel empty. For a little bit, we all came together to play some games.

I'm seriously planning on going to Tokyo, I'm not watching the olympics in the middle of the night.

depending on where I am at in my life at that point, I might as well.

I really wanna go to a foreign games, and Tokyo is as good of a place as any to go.


and on that note.... back to playing video games and living normal life again.

The World Cup is a big deal here in the US for sure. Maybe not quite as big a deal as the Olympics every two years, or the Super Bowl every February, but it is definitely big.
 
This provided constant entertainment for me over the past 2 weeks. Now I'm sad I have to wait another 2 years for the next Olympics.

These were amazingly special two weeks for all of us, that definitely helped rebuild some of the confidence we've lost over the hard last years. So I hope you guys had at least a little fun :)

Very good words.

It's amazing what these olympics did for our city and i guess in Brazil in general. For these past weeks people just forgot about the problems, violence, corruption and everything else and just cheered and felt proud.

It wasn't perfect but we certainly did the best we could and we felt proud for it and our athletes, being victorious or not. It was on a whole different level from the world cup, which felt a bit superfluous for most. Most people were afraid the olympics would turn it like that, but that couldnt be as far for the truth.

I'm sure the olympics will be felt by many generations here. For 20 days, we forgot our problems, had fun and showed the world and ourselves that we could. Lots of young kids saw these and will fight to be the best they can. And that, my friends, is the whole point of all of this. :)

For 20 years now I've wanted to go to Japan. It's not happened yet, but 2020 seems perfect. I'm seriously going to try to be there; even if I don't get a ticket to a single event, to just be there during it should be amazing.
 
So how difficult is to get tickets for the olympic games? Do they sell fast? Seems that rio was a safe bet since there were many empty seats at different events.

I'll be very surprised if it's not LA. 1996 was the last summer games in NA. Europe has had two summer games in that time in 2004 and 2012. LA has pretty much all the venues already built or will be built/updated for other purposes prior to the games.

Olympic stadium will be the colisseum, which USC is already gonna modernize.
LAFC new stadium will be temporarily made into the swimming arena
LA Rams/Rose Bowl stadium for soccer
Stubhub center for rugby
Already a world class velodrome in LA
Convention center for wrestling, table tennis, judo, boxing etc
Staples Center for basketball
Dodger Stadium for baseball
LA got a great surf and skateboard culture, inclusion of those sports greatly helps them. They also have a great beach volleyball culture (I think the sport was invented there)
Hotels to accommodate plenty of people
They are already taxing themselves to majorly expand the rapid transit and lightrail system.

Among other things. There's a good chance LA2024 will be profitable to the city as well.

The thing is that a big part of the tickets are sold only for the people from the host country

So get tickets to the finals and big events on Tokio can be really hard

Most of the stuff was easy to find! Not for the chepeast prices though. Some stuff was hard, like the sports were Brazil is usually good or with big names like Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps and other events were impossible, like football, beach volley and usa games in basketball, but in general you could find cheap tickets even close to the day.
