yeah they will spend a lot, but they will also probably make most of it back (in fact could probably make a profit, I dare say).

LA is a perfect city to have it, due to it being a relatively painless city to get it done with its already existing architecture in place. All they need to do is build an elevated track on top of the Coliseum and a swimming venue and that's it.

They are even lobbying the sports federations that they will spend more time on focusing on each sports' events, as they won't need to focus on construction.

after all that scare the U.S dumped on these games (like they always do for every country hosting that isn't them) the games were a success.

Great games, too bad one blonde bleached zilch almost ruined everything. Also will feel weird with Rio going back into Rio mode after the Paralympic games.

I'll try to watch the Paralympics but idk how much coverage NBC will give and whether any of it will be streamed online on their site.
 
That was an amazing handover by Tokyo. It had all the right things, Shiina Ringo produced music, LED lightshow, Mario, Doraemon, Tsubasa, and even AyaBambi. Can't wait for 2020.

I mentioned this before but we should seriously get a GAF group together for those planning on going. Like for those who are really, seriously, considering about heading there we should start planning as soon as possible. I think it would be a wonderful thing to experience as a group. :D

And I don't want to go alone. :P
 
Just watched the Tokyo 2020 presentation, it was really good. Might start saving up to go there heh.

Now that the Olympics are over, I have to go back to reality, which is watching football for another 4 years...

City of Champions Stadium (new Rams stadium) will probably be the deciding factor of LA getting the games in 2024. 2 games in Europe (Athens, London) 2 in Asia (Beijing, Toyko) and now one in South America (Rio)... You can't tell me that majority of the world wouldn't want to go to LA for the games.


Can't wait for the Toyko games, the opening ceromony alone will be amazing.

I will be there.


I also might make a thread for the swimming worlds next year unless someone else already does them. It's a while away still yet.

The opening ceremony got one of the largest audiences in the history of Channel 4. Day-to-day it looks like it got from 1M to 3M, which is low compared to the Olympics, but pretty high for Channel 4. It's also worth noting that the C4 paralympic coverage served to spawn The Last Leg, which started out as a comic daily roundup of the day's paralympic events and has lasted beyond that as a very successful weekly roundup of the week's news.
 
Anyone know where I could find a clean version of Risako Kowai throwing her coach, preferably an official broadcast or something? Youtube is full of these wankers reuploading it and adding their own title card and 'commentary' over it

Shame it's over, back to normal life now. Thanks to everyone who posted in this thread, it's been fun. Now we have to endure 3 and a half years of nerds marking out over the 2020 Tokyo games 'cos "JAPAN! OMG! Video games! Anime! Bright LIGHTS!1! ^_^ !!111".

...yay.
