28 YEARS LATER: The Bone Temple Trailer (2026)

I'm probably going to watch this for the Jimmy ninja squad and will treat the entire thing as a comedy (not that years had anything meaningful or original to say in the first place).

What was so bad about 28 Weeks Later? I last watched it around the time it came out, and I remember the opening scene being brutal, and the scene later between the husband and wife (zombie version) being effectively disturbing. Which is more of an impact than most movies leave.

Well, those two parts are basically the only good ones. The rest is meh. Which is why people mostly rave about the first ten minutes and barely remember anything else.

I honestly don't remember either the 1st or 2nd film it's been so long since I watched them. I do remember the opening scene to part 2. I don't remember it being a bad movie. I usually remember bad films if they're really bad. I didn't bother with this latest one.

I've written off Boyle for years now and Garland as a director doesn't do anything for me, but 28 Years Later is my movie of the year so far.

That said, DaCosta hasn't really made a good film yet, but she is an excellent stylist and maybe the energised due of Boyle/Garland can guide her. I don't expect a banger but have higher hopes now after seeing the trailer.

With all these movies, people don't really talk about anything after the first 30 minutes or so, because they're not very good.

The openings are great for the first and second movies and that's basically it.

28 years later is the most consistent movie of the series imo. But then at the last minute it turns into a goofball slapstick flick.

Decent trailer, still not holding onto much hope for this one.

So after 28 years and England having been decimated this one guy figures out this infliction can be treated? 🤣

Ok, but I might have to watch this one even though I skipped the 1st one it looks ok.

This one follows directly on from the rather mid last entry. Had some nice ideas but was a miss for me. You'll need to endure that I think.

Glad to hear it's being reviewed so much better than Part1, that was such a misfire from the usually incredible Boyle, sure it had its moments but by fuck it dropped the ball in some parts, will probably catch this one on streaming after blowing a load to see the first one at the cinema and leaving slightly disappointed

I can recommend this gem to get you started.

It's getting better scores than 28 Years Later. 96% on RT. 80 on Metacritic.

It's on 91% now and falling and the previous one had 89% and it was overrated fucking trash. 28 weeks later that was considered mid by critics was way better imo

28 Years Later has a 77 MetaCritic and Bone Temple has a 79, they are pretty much reviewing the same.

What did everyone here even hate about the original? It was fine to me, a bit boring but was interesting visually so it's better than a lot of films.

No matter how flawed the second one was it still felt like a complete story just like the first one that was great.

The last one on the other hand seemed pointless; it begins, they go on a short journey, has some stylish, pretentious shit in the bone temple and it ends. It felt like The Quiet Place 2 did, a pointless short story extended to 90 minutes

I thought part 1 reviewed worse, for me it was all over the place stylistically from what i can remember, to be honest i'll need to do a rewatch to see if it was simply the introduction of the Jimmy's and how it went all power rangers that soiled the whole film

Critic scores mean shit. I loved 28 weeks later a lot more than whatever the fuck 28 years later wanted to be. I mean the first half of it, which felt like THe Last of Us, kid/father bonding stuff was decent, but then it turns into snore fest. Hipster overrated shit. And it looks like Bone Temple has a different director lmao, so consistency is probably out the fucking window and into the garbage.

I'm excited for it 'cause I love this franchise, and I've enjoyed Years quite a bit.

But yeah, I don't trust reviewers. One thing that stood out for me in many of them was "surprisingly funny". I really don't watch these movies 'cause I want to laugh.

Friend of mine will watch it today, so I'll wait for his impressions.

I saw it. Didn't like the first movie until it sat with me, it's only half the story.

This movie is 18 rated and is pretty brutal, it still has some silly moments but it's a lot more satisfying and leads up for the third movie with Cillian Murphy.

Probably give it like an 8, maybe a 9.

Music is less impactful but there are genuine scenes I had no idea how things would play out. After the first five minutes I was locked in.

It's a better Last of Us Part II than the show, but it also starts to go into late Romero territory with the infected.

This isn't Ye Da's 28 Days.

Took me a minute to process what's happening. From one of the comments:
"The girl is essentially a digital muppet controlled by an actress who uses the muppet character as a stage persona. Imagine doing a publicity interview with Kermit the Frog and you're most of the way there."

Here's the video cued up to that part

Probably safe to say neither Garland or Boyle expected an interaction like that when they sat down for that junket.

I might check this one out just for sheer morbid curiosity. 28 years later was fuckin weird. I watched it on airplane a few weeks ago.

I honestly cant tell if I liked it or not. It had some cool shit, but the fact that the rest of the world is just rocking along as is, fully aware of survivors but totally ignoring them lol. And the survivors seem to be aware the rest of the world is fine and they make no effort to leave, lol i dunno just weird. No one will just fly a chopper over there and scoop them up?? Lol just so odd.

And then the ending was super weird too. You got this clockwork orange looking crew showing up out of nowhere doing fuckin parkour kick flips with like animal control style zombie weapons. Lmao I honestly have no clue if that was supposed to be funny or if it was just unintentional funny. It was like you just randomly took a scene from Zombieland and tacked it on the end of a zombie move that was otherwise trying to be a more serious zombie movie.

But somehow, despite the weirdness, it piqued my interest and now I kinda want to watch this.

I went in with a modicum of hype after hearing it was reviewing better than the last, and I'm not actually sure if I enjoyed it any better. It's devoid of any crazy Danny Boyle artistic shit which is going to be a plus for a lot of people (I thought it was going to be for me as well) but it winds up feeling pretty bland without it.

Mild spoilers. Plot-specific spoilers are blurred:
They fucked Spike's character into the ground. He was absolutely useless. A lot of screen time but zero presence. All I remember him doing is crying, throwing up, or failing miserably at escaping.

There's a VERY questionable plot development which I suspect people are going to rip into. Ralph Fiennes cures an infected with some antipsychotic medication. Seems ridiculous that a doctor with limited access to technology is the one to crack this, rather than the millions of doctors and scientists operating in the outside world.

The Jimmy cult stuff is easily the highlight of the movie for me. It's totally unhinged and depraved, straight out of Clockwork Orange. One encounter in particular is really fucked up and stands out as the most memorable moment.

The first point, he's never killed a person. Infected? Yeah. So I can understand it being difficult, he literally came from a society. They didn't.

Point 2 I'm still mixed about but with him having 28 years of time they can easily justify it with that.

Third film definitely needs to cover it more.

Saw this.

I don't even know why the first movie exists, this is a much better movie overall and almost stands by itself, condense the first movie into 30 minutes of highlights and stick it before this one and you're in for a good time.

28 Days Later is one of my favorite movies of all time. The music, the popularization of running zombies, the characters acting relatively realistic. Timeless movie.

Weeks was okay. I know a lot of people hate it, but I felt that the Infected scenes were great (pretty stupid main characters do I have to admit). Opening is one of the best for any horror movie and I got to see more Infected action so I liked it well enough.

For Years the whole Easy, Medium, and Hard difficulty Infected variants was genuinely stupid. Crawling nerfed, Bloaters, really? The Alphas didn't seem any more threatening than the normal Infected seen in Days or Weeks which was funny. The first hour or so was good (weird editing aside), but as soon as the annoying mom was the main companion for the kid that was where the movie was just oozing artsy fartsy crap. The birth scene and the kid climbing the mountain of skulls while the sun literally rises in the background was beyond eye rolling inducing.

Wow. This was phenomenal.

I enjoyed it more than Danny's 28 Years Later.

Its just... smoother, and the story is told better. The world felt a lot less safe. It brought back the original 28 days later feeling of dread.

The gore was fucking BRUTAL and some scenes were just epic. Loved the characters.

The leader is the best horror villain I've seen in a Long time.

Not to mention the set up for the 3rd movie was awesome.

Also it does some things I have never seen any other zombie movie do, ever.

Nia Dacosta directed the fuck out of this too, she did an amazing job.

9/10 from me.

Much better experience for me because I didnt watch a second of the trailers. Had no clue what to expect going in and everything was a surprise.

Thanks! That seals it. I'm skipping this one just like the last one and if there is a 3rd. I guess no point in watching that one. Crazy to think 28 Days later is one of my all time favorite horror movies

Thats pretty stupid but do your thing.

Having 28 Days Later being one of your all time fav horror movies, and then not watching the sequels, helmed by the same crew, is sheep behavior.

The franchise is nothing but quality. 4 Solid films in a row.

This movie was so fucking good. I love how weird this franchise is willing to be, and how distinctly different each entry has been.

I really hope they get greenlit on another (and presumably final) film.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. I really enjoyed the 1st 2 films. I read enough negative impressions from gaffers on the last one to skip it. I'll wait for more impressions. I might change my mind on watching this one. I'm glad you've enjoyed all of them.

They are already filming the 3rd one, right?

Going to watch it today. I'm excited.

Edit: deleted some spoiler. Thabks analog_future analog_future

It's easily the second best in the franchise and I think it has by far the most depth out of all them too.

It actually makes the last entry better

Which is always a sign of a great film

What a nice surprise. I had already seen positive comments on Facebook but that doesn't always mean anything.

This is the much better movie, even though I have to say that after having watch part 1 last week for a second time I'm liking it more than the first time watching it. But this one is just overall way better.

It's absolutely being carried by Fiennes and the guy playing the villain, he's fucking awesome. Humanity and some real brutality in this one. I quite like how short the wait was between 1 and 2, hopefully we won't be waiting ages for 3.

Don't read the below part if you haven't seen it yet.

I do wish they had not killed off the villain already because he shines in his scenes and I dont know this actor at all. And I will miss Fiennes too. It's interesting how he found a cure and I wonder if more will be done with this. But who's going to find out about the cure and eventually cure humanity?

And I would not have minded to see how that villain turned into such a sick maniac, lol. Because we see him as a boy at prologue of part 1 but never anything after that until the end where he's an adult.
