$300 jeans on, does that mean we dream wrong? - Official Denimhead Thread

I have a similar question to chedabob. My garbstore selvedge jeans arrived but turns out they arent raw but instead have a "6 month wash". Does this mean they have been washed once? They are still pretty dark so is it worth going through the break in process with them or are the fades they come with the only ones they will get? Ill probably keep them either way as they look and feel great (im a definite convert to selvedge now) and im currently breaking in a pair of organic nudies anyway.

I'd have to assume it's a bit more than a one wash. Generally they'll refer to that as "Rinse" when it comes to most raw companies. Does it have no fading or whiskering? Either way if the entire jean has either been rinsed it will not break in nearly as well as true raws.

Oh yes, its has some really nice fading on it. As I said, im going to keep them anyway as I really like the way they look and feel. Ill wear them as my smartish going out jeans till my nudies are broken in. I doubt I could go back to non-selvedge jeans now tho :P

Not really my style since those fades look horribly manufactured but yeah I doubt they'll fade much more. They look pretty washed. Probably tumbled to get the fading around the seams and ironed to produce the crease fades.

Cheers for the info tenks :) Sadly garbstore has now sold out of my size in the raw selvedge so Ill be keeping the ones ive got.

Thats sorta why I like em tbh, the fades look weird. If id paid full price I would be sending them back as I wanted raw but from my limited experience with these matters, 70 quid is bloody cheap for selvedge in the UK.

Okay DenimGAF, I got my first pair of unwashed jeans (a pair by Edwin) and the little booklet recommends a "rinse" before wearing due to the high indigo content staining clothes and whatnot (which I think someone here mentioned on an earlier page). My question is, what do they mean by a rinse? Cold water I assume, but amount of time and so on? They fit pretty well right now, so I don't want to do anything to shrink them.

if you don't want any shrinkage, cold soak for 45 min and hang dry... rinse your tub out immediately after to keep the indigo from staining

Heh yeah my Nudies completely transferred a boatload of indigo onto my white Diesel sneakers. My seats in my car also have a nice layer of indigo.

I did the cold soak, but there was absolutely no indigo residue in the sink I used; however, when checking them on the drying rack later, I noticed that I had put a couple marks on the wall where the top of the waistline had brushed against it. I guess I'll see what happens when I wear them for a while.

I've been wearing my Average Joes regularly (at least 5 days a week on average I'd say, if not 6) since I bought them in early January. They are starting to have some nice creases/lines in them and I can tell by the first wash the colors will look quite nice. There is one thing that concerns me, though. I noticed it when I had the jeans off. Let me first say these jeans are not a snug fit on me. I need to actually get a smaller belt, and I think stretching will be minimal after the first wash as I think the shrinkage will actually improve them a bit (hurray gym). I noticed these wear marks behind the crotch area:

See the white showing through? That worries me a bit. You'd almost think I did a split with these things on. It's not tight in that area, either...

the wear in the crotch area is inevitable, especially if you wear your jeans a little on the slim side. I have a hole that I patched there, but took me about a year to get them on my APC's

Reinforce that crotch. The crotch on my Nudie's blew out so now its out of my pants rotation and Acne and Rag&Bone are what I am wearing now.

I have looked high and low on the internet for this, couldn't find an answer anywhere.

There must have been a functional purpose for the leather patch on the waist belt above the rear pocket on jeans. What is that purpose?

All jeans have it. Somebody here must know.

Not every brand has them. 7FAM for instance only has a little ribbon where the patch generally is. In the olden days it acted as another belt loop but even then you'll notice on really old jeans they didn't have the label. I don't know exactly when it started (I'm pretty sure Levi started it, though) and I think it's just there as a place to easily identify the brand and size. Anymore, however, it's purely for fashion sake.

Oh yeah, and Nudie doesn't use leather it's synthetic. I'm sure most are synthetic these days.

Eep. Yeah, I have strips of the fabric from the hemming, so I'll reinforce it. It's weird because I don't wear the jeans tight in the least. As mentioned if anything they could stand to shrink a bit from their first wash. My work is changing its dress code, anyway, so I won't be wearing my jeans as much. Now we'll always have to tuck in our shirts, and I'm sorry, I look like a moron with my shirt tucked into jeans. Going with my khakis...

Just bought some 511's for the first time after wearing baggy clothes forever. I like the fit, but I need to lose some weight in my midsection. I'll hold off on wearing the jeans in public until I can get rid of my shrinking potbelly(I've been working out for 3 months and had to get some cheap jeans). I can at least use the jeans as my goal to getting fit, so I don't really consider it a waste(jeans were only $30 anyway).

I'm also thinking of getting the Cheap Mondays Autobahn jeans for my first "designer" jeans. Does anyone know how the sizing works for those? I've checked the fashion forums and none of them can get a solid measurement. I've heard either size up or size down. I'm currently a 34" with the 511's, which fit tight.

I have a pair of grey cheap mondays and the sizing is similar to apc.

Is there any consensus on non-blue jeans? I have a pair of Levi's STFs, and they're working well, but I wanted a bit more more variety in my wardrobe, so I grabbed a pair of brown and a pair of grey. Anyone have any experience for how they fade? When I gave them their initial shrink they didn't seem to color the water as strongly as the standard ones did.

Fit on those Cheap Mondays is dope. My advice? Size down 1 on a pair of LVC 501s. I love them. I reccomend them to anyone. They're just so good.

i picked up some Club Monaco jeans on the cheap. It's a straight leg slim fit, similar to the APC New Standards. Normally I don't like or wear straight leg since i prefer a tapered fit, but I couldn't pass up a deal on these. $40 instead of $130 and in black! I can never find a black raw/selvage jean that I like and these are pretty thicker and tougher than APC's. The rise is slightly shorter, but they aren't bad so far.

Does anyone know who makes these jeans (or any very similar):

This dude has my body type and I have a hard time finding jeans that fit me nicely. I'm short and skinny, which sucks for finding pants of any kind.

they could be anything, but since it was taken in tokyo and they are skinny they are probably either april 77 joey's or acne hex's. a cheaper, easier alternative to find outside of japan would be a pair of cheap monday narrows.

That's because indigo is the only dye that rests on top of the fabric to make those kinds of fades. Those two were dyed like any other clothing.

That's not true. Being that they're in Tokyo they could be a ton of things. And that's the the point. Just look up more and you're bound to find something you like, there is too much out there for you to not.

I don't know, I've never done it, but I really don't like jeans distressed of any color other than blue. I was thinking about getting blacks but I don't even like black distressed jeans. If you want other colors, I think you should branch outside jeans.

Thanks for the help :) I'll look into all those!

This is obviously the wrong thread to ask, but I was wondering if there were any people you guys knew who never wear jeans?

(I don't).

I knew plenty of people at my old job who only wore dress pants or sweat pants. And they smelled like cheese or gerbils.

I used to not wear jeans too often, but nowadays you can pretty much find any style/fit/weight you would want in denim and they feel great

Not sure how much it'll help due to the angle and everything but here I am in my April77 Joey fit Snow wash.

(btw, those are not April77's in the above picture. No guitar-pick pocket and I don't think April77 uses silver rivets. They might be Ksubi Gee Gee)

The most upsetting thing is that Uniqlo doesn't do online orders :|.
They do phone orders. Pick out what you want and call them.

My sammies are coming along. They're looking for their first wash to be in May. I love them, and I'll probably try to get blacks in the Fall and another pair of LVC 501s (since I'm not going to get Sams with arcs and tabs again ;-;).

Alright, GAF, after a few months of holding off, I'm finally going to get around to purchasing a pair of APC NS. The problem is, I'm unsure of what size to order. I've read this thread, and the general rule seems to be "size down 2 for normal, 3 for tight". But I've also heard it said that you not only have to account for vanity sizing (2 sizes) but also for the inevitable stretching in the denim. Assuming I'm a 29x34 in Levi's 514 and a 30x34 in the 511, do you suggest a 27 or 28 in the APC's?

I prefer the fit of the 514 to the 511, I just don't like the lack of taper in the leg opening. There's too little taper in comparison to the thigh and knee, which makes the pants sometimes look almost like boot-cuts. The 511, conversely, has too much taper to be worn with anything formal. I'm hoping the NS is somewhere between these two.

get the size 28. Normally you would size 2 down, but 27 will be slightly tight around the crotch/thighs area. The leg opening though is more straight leg than a taper.

The NS will be closer to the 514's. The Petite Standards is a hybrid of the NS waist/crotch/thighs, but the knees/leg opening are of the New Cures (tapered)

I am ignorant of denim hierarchy

Can someone please explain to me in layman's terms why I should spend $200+ on ONE pair of jeans when my $20 pairs last me some years? I'm a poor, college student though, so just buying a $200+ pair of jeans for every day of the week at once is not happening.

I figured this would be a good place to ask. But due to my obsession with the 70s I love bell bottom/flared jeans.
I only have two I got online the other from a Levi outlet store (they're seasonal apparently)
But does anyone here know a good place or brand even for men's flared jeans?
