glad to see the problem was taken care of quickly.. but too bad the problem occurred in the first placeGhaleonEB said:from Major Nelson:

Having an issue with the Fall update ?
It turns out that there is a very small number of people are having issues with the Fall update that we rolled out a couple of days ago. I just spoke to the Dashboard team, and they are aware of it and working on an update that we will rolling out in a matter of hours, not days. If you already have the update and you are connected to Xbox Live and playing games etc., then you can continue on with your day. If you are having problems, call your local Xbox Support number (get your local number from Xbox.com) and theyll get you taken care of. Ill update this post when the update is available, but as I said if you are up and running now on Live you dont have anything to worry about and this wont affect you.
Edit: An updated version of the Fall Update is now available on Xbox Live which has elminated issues relating to new or refurbished consoles failing after applying the Fall Update. Users who have already applied the Fall Update and are seeing an error message should call their local Xbox Support telephone number. If you already have the update, you will not be prompted for another update.
The last update has to be...updated right after the update as well. Between this and the Uno pack (an Uno pack!) having to be pulled down and fixed right after release, Microsoft's QA isn't looking so hot right now.
And Kabouter is vindicated.![]()

Nino said:Why would a Dutch source be any less plausible than an English source? And you're threatening to ban him, an active and helpfull GAFfer, just because you can't read the source? Lame.
Oh and if you really need your English source; our techie guy is currently investigating the issue, I'll post his findings once he's done.

Onix said:I once downloaded a Windows Update Patch for a WinME machine.
The system never booted again. :/
I ended up installing Win98 SE.
Mojovonio said:You used windows ME?
you're lucky that's all that happened.
okay, it's looking worse than usualBlueTsunami said::lol

I had Windows ME.HokieJoe said::lol
Yeah, I'd say a lot of people did that- myself included. WinME gave me a tangible appreciation for what plug-n-pray really meant.

I can't believe this though, well, I should say I can believe the issues here with this company... Everytime I see windows updates, I cringe and worry... and looks like this console is no different... Between this and the VGA support issues, man...
Oh well, glad that it's "VERY" few ppl according to the Major......
*on a side note- wayyy over the 5-day mark to get my new power-brick, called them up the other day, they didn't send it like they said they were... talked to a supervisor, he's shipping one express, should have it Friday... or I'm going to flip the **** out...

todayzee said:I had just gotten my X360 back from MS today after I had to send it out for its first repair. Downloaded the update and BAM! E17. I talked to a MS rep on the phone and she told me that "millions" of users are having this update and having problems and Microsoft is working very, very hard to fix it.
She then told me to call back in 24-48 hours, because they might have a way to magically transform this white freakin' brick connected to my TV back into a X360. When I told her I'd rather just send it in for repair she said, "Fine, yeah, I can do that, but it will cost $139.
What? This is some CRAPOLA.
Surreal said:Isn't everyone running the same exact hardware, and the same exact software
The update was apparently only bricking new consoles (with older manufacturing dates) or consoles replaced at the service center... hence why consoles in ongoing everyday use with prior updates in their firmware weren't affected.Surreal said:I don't really understand how this could happen. Isn't everyone running the same exact hardware, and the same exact software, how would this brick some consoles but not all of them? :/

Vyer said:He also told me that they would have to repair the system at the repair center, which would cost me.
Onix said:HOW IS THAT LEGAL?
Seriously ... even if your system is out of warranty, how could they not be legally responsible for SW that they mandate you load?
Vyer said:However, I did call about my XBOX (it died on me after the update) and the guy walked me through some steps. The system actually got worse as we went along (once removing the hard drive, particularly).
Wow crazy. The fear of Blue Screen Of Death again.Ravidrath said:A friend had this happen to him, and he got the same line... $140 to fix the system. He bitched at a supervisor and they offered to do it for $70. That's still the most ridiculous thing ever, though.
Did anyone ever get this resolved to their satisfaction, without paying a cent? You know, like, you should?
