GTA3 was cartoony enough to take the edge off the wanton violence, but GTAIV is absolutely brutal, partly due to the physics engine and partly just due to the subject matter.

I've played Europa Universalis and Heart of Iron and even I couldn't figure wtf to do in Banjo. =\
