360 version of Unreal Tournament may have fewer maps

Gadfly said:
And what incentive Epic would have to do that?

Or you think companies are run by fanboys?
I didn't say they had any incentive. Just pointing out that they can decide to not offer something.

does oblivion on 360 include all the added ps3 stuff for free now?

not all of it, but Knights of the Nine or whatever is included at no "extra" charge. other than it being released later than the 360 version which might've been able to be purchased at a cheaper price by the time the ps3 version came out...

bububu i play fps with a gamepad on the pc. /cry
:O crazyness. You must not be too into FPS on the PC then.

I cant wait for the EPIC thread comes this november that confirms cross platform play PC/PS3

Internal testing is clocking around 8-10 hours.

Not like it matters MULTIPLAYER.

Your talking about the single player right? I wouldn't even have thought it would be that long.
Bonus Achieved!. I've never played a UT game but I'm planing on picking this up instead of COD4, just cause it looks different than most FPS's.

Actually this is true. But not likely!

I just figure eventually Epic is going to light a fire under MS's ass and maybe as a result 360 owners can get a comparable release of UT3.

Granted it would require the shifting of mountains and oceans turning into vast deserts or other random nonsense, but eh I like things to be kept interesting.

You haven't played UT on the PC then.
Sure I have, I don't mind if I play for the platform only against other pad players. I probably will end up playing with keyboard and mouse, but if I don't feel like it, no huge loss.

My brother, prepare for hand/eye overload :P

Do you have an example of something like this?

It seems that these maps being free would be a logical extension to the plan already in place. if Microsoft charged for this content, and used that as an excuse.....that would be some damn fine semantic work on their behalf.
You're misunderstanding me, I think. I'm not talking about what MS policy is, just simply observing that if MS doesn't charge for content that's free on other platforms, as raYne said, that maps that are included in the retail release for PC/PS3 that get left out of the 360 version aren't examples of free content on other platforms.

In any case, as has been pointed out by others, MS isn't the publisher, so they're not in charge of pricing anyway.

Well last time they said 10 hours it certainly didn't turn out that way. But, you're right, the biggest appeal for this game is the MP, which I'll probably play like a maniac.

If you're in it to have a good time then that's cool. If you want to get serious, you will have to endure getting slaughtered over and over and over by kb/mouse users ;)

Why would MS change it's strategy in any way because of Ut3? I mean seriously. If there are more developers with the same problem, or some bigger game, then i understand. But Ut3?

Cross platform play would require some give or take as they gimped the PS3 version some for gamepad players.

UT3 will have a KB+M only option for MP!

I agree, if anything it may ensure the fact, that down the road the next game version, or next console will allow it! There is hope but more dev's have to push MS this way.

Like I said, against other pad players no problem

I think you underestimate the franchise, I've never played it, but I've often been told how excellent the game(s) are by friends. UT is almost like a cult, some people just swear by it.

it wouldn't take any more space on the disc to allow the ps3 version to run in both modes depending on what server they join. ideally, i would like to select "Multiplayer" from main menu and then select "Console servers" or "Global servers" and it would simply use the correct parameters for movement speed etc.

Until MS can get mouse + keyboard support the for UT3 the PS3 version will always be superior. There are a ton of FPS I'll play without m&k but not UT...no way in hell. Mark Rein should totally announce that the 360 version is going to run at sub-15 FPS and the only playable mode is instagib.

Rein should continue to shit on the 360 version at least until MS decides to step it up and actually give a damn about the game.

Give it up, seriously. There will be no M/K support for the 360 and the community is better for it.

I'm happy PC control fans have found a console to play on. But what’s with this childish attitude toward a platform that doesn't. Its like some kind of intolerant religion. Not everyone thinks like you pal.

Also I will wait until "might have to cut" is "will have to cut" before I freak out. Mark needs UT3 to be the next big seller for Epic and bolstering up the PS3 version can only help.

If Mark Rein was a gaffer, he'd be banned for trolling MS

That is the post of the thread, easily. Hell, post of the night.

MS trolls don't get banned though. He'd probably establish a place for himself in the Barnolde/Wollan/fortified concept mold.

I can't wait to see the Xbox 360 version of the game.

Unreal Tournament III: Good Enough Edition!
For which Xbox 360?

Core w/ 20GB drive?
Core w/ 120GB drive?
Pro w/ 20GB drive?
Pro w/ 120GB drive?
Elite w/ 20GB drive?
:lol
Elite w/ 120GB drive?

I mean seriously, less maps? Mark..... :lol

How does it go from "We may have fewer maps" to "We're filling up a whole Blu-ray disc."?

I don't see this as surprising. UT2004 was huge on PC. Why, I don't know. Unreal Engine Space management and other games differ though.

There are tons of people out there without drives. So all of a sudden MS's promise of every game on every version goes out the window? Haven't they created enough bad news as of late.

finally, now this is the answer to halo 3 on the ps3 this year....

keyboard + mouse = day one purchase :D

And now the thread goes off like a fucking rocket...

For the one that I don't have to pay $5 to $10 extra for each new map pack that the PS3 version will have for retail price.

If they made this game with a mandatory HDD requirement, we wouldn't have this problem!!

As people mentioned previously, if this game filled up a Blu-ray disk which is 25 gigs of data, then even both the core owners and the Premium users (20 gig hardrive) are screwed. So the only way to play UT is to gimp the content and satisfy the lowest common denominator which is the core users.

He is trying real hard to light up that bridge, isn't he. :lol

But, go ahead and release an 'inferior' version on the dominant US platform to a user base that inhales these type of games. Watch what happens to your bottom line.

13 GB on the X360 hard drive, 7 GB on the disc...still smaller than a single layer Blu-ray disc. Heh..

Good way to alienate core console owners without a hard drive. MS made a promise remember, or is that out the window?

He said they might be able to fill up a blu-ray with Unreal Tournament 4(or whatever they call it) and all of the mods that might come.
