3D Trailers for E3 games up on 3DS eShop

I tried to ask NOE what was happening on twitter... but they do not even have a twitter account! Welcome to 2011 Nintendo. So in the end I asked my question to @NintendoAmerica

Not sure if this is somehow related, but I haven't been able to log into nintendo.nl to check my Club Nintendo stars status in almost 24 hrs (was wondering if DSiWare purchases made on the 3DS would show up).

Even better:

Ce service est actuellement indisponible en raison d'opérations de maintenance.

Deze dienst is door onderhoud op dit moment niet toegankelijk

Strangely, the E3 stuff is up on the Wii Channel but not on the 3DS.

Not sure how these guys at NOE work.

facepalm

I wish they had a real European presence by the way. Codestorm in the UK represent Nintendo, but they're not Nintendo UK, they're a company that handles all the customer services, returns and repairs for Nintendo and other companies. It's like Nintendo are just a paper company in Europe... they do translation, organise distributors and localised publishing, and do the website - thats it. It's all just businessmen in suits... do they have any pride in Nintendo Europe? I'd like to see them try and make the subsidiary Nintendo's best. Maybe we'd get a better service if they were more like Nintendo of America and there were actually geographically local Nintendo developers for them to work alongside (like NST or Retro in America). Gah I dunno... this is just disappointing.

Italian guy here and Club nintendo is under maintenance also in my country but i think that is not related with an eventual update of the shop

The EU launch of the e shop is by far the weakest of the lot. It took those imbeciles a day longer to release Zelda, let alone that those morons weren't able to give out prepaid cards in time for the launch, making it impossible for me to buy something on the shop.

It's pathethic as it is. The trailers not releasing is just further proof of what I expected from the beginning. Nintendos eshop in Europe will remain the vastly inferior offering due to all the different rating systems and Nintendos lack of collaboration with their european side.

I also expect that we here in Austria will never get any sort of video service thanks to the GIS.

Demos? forget it, those will remain a wet dream for europe.

I bet the hackers are to blame for our lack of E3 Trailers! HATE ON THEM!
You're probably joking but... It's not the hacker's fault. I don't like them either and they can cause some really annoying inconveniences, but Nintendo of Europe's incompetence is the reason why we don't have the content. :)

Nintendo isn't going to remove trailers I've downloaded in future updates like they did with that music video, are they?

I was wondering what happend with that too, then i realize that the video came with the first update (and it wasnt saved in the sd card). So the new update erase that from the old OS

People of the USA...are these new videos saved to the SD card?

If so ...any chance that some kind soul could stick them online somewhere for download to see if us poor Europeans can get them to work?

Pleeaase...we'll do our best to help you in World War III.

I asked that exact same question 2 days ago. But so far no one answered. At least someone of you guys could see if you can find the files on the SD card. If they're encrypted we're out of luck and will never see these trailers, but someone should seriously try.

Just did a bit more searching on another site.....and someone has already tried....they are encrypted sadly. :(

Right fuck it, I now vow, due to the sheer principle of the matter, to not buy a single one of these games that had trailers for them!
If Nintendo don't want to directly advertise to me simply due to me being located in Europe, then I won't buy their product.
They won't get away with denying me my trailers!

I'm just joking Nintendo, you already know i'll likely buy every single one! I do hate you though :(

Man, I can't believe I didn't think of this. I'll try it, give me a minute.

That's what I was afraid of. Still doesn't hurt to ask. Even if it is downright pathethic that we european peasants have to resort to such methods just to get promotion material. I mean come the fuck on. At this point I don't even give a shit if the trailers aren't there because of PEGI/USK rating processes. The fact that NOE doesn't have the foresight to get the ratings early enough, or thinks that releasing the trailers later is enough, is pissing me off.

Fuck you Nintendo and your stupid region locking bullshit. Now we europeans are at the mercy of those imbeciles at NOE.

I just moved my JP SD card into my UK 3DS and no dice, the videos didn't show up. I imagine they get locked to the system by the store, for security reasons.

I'll try just copying the files now... EDIT or not, reading up.

The trailers are embedded in video player "apps", so they appear on the SD card as pairs of TMD (title meta data) and APP files. They're probably encrypted for your device as you download them... if there were some way to crack open the APP file, perhaps there's some kind of video file(s) in there. But I can't see it happening... it would be amazing if it turned out they were easy to get into and edit, because WHAM - video converters for 3DS would start appearing.

It's not necessarily region lock, it's the fact that all apps (including these video players) are signed to the device and cannot be transferred (except via the transfer tool).

Couldn't you just copy all the files to your hard drive, upload them and tell us what folders they were in? We could at least give it a try. :(

Somebody has already done that at GBA Temp - you can get the files there. I won't link directly, the URL ends in t296637-question-about-the-downloadable-trailers

LOL @ random Green Lantern (movie) trailer appearing in the UK eShop :lol

Not unwelcome, is it categorised under movie trailers or is it just sitting there looking out of place on the main eShop page?

Front page, right next to the Pokédex app.

Movie looks like total shit, but the 3D effect was actually pretty cool.

No Green Lantern Trailer for Germany.

Thank you. :) Seems like it doesn't work but people are trying to get the Trailers on PAL systems...

Well..that's very nice. What odd priorities.

Bizarre. :/

Nice quality clip...although one thing it does show up is how much stronger the 3D effect is in the games. Nowhere near as much depth or pop-out as you get with 3DS software...perhaps that's due to it being created for the big screen?

But it is the region locking that denies us access to these trailers. It's fucking disgusting, and if this is a sign of things to come, then count me out. Fucking hell, I don't expect Nintendo to release every shitty japanese dating sim in europe, but basic promotional material for games that come out this year...
Even worse, NOE didn't even manage to get Prepaid cards to stores for the eshop launch. It's a travesty.

more likely to not create headaches for some people. Trailers need to be viewed by as many people as possible, and going overboard with the 3D effect would make it look broken or weird to some. So it's better to keep it decent in trailers.

Pretty much this. 3D effect at max = eyeball rape for the majority of people, from my experience at least.

BTW, am I the only one who's disappointed by the fact that the main screen doesn't look like this? I really don't care for the disjointed mess we have now, full of crap floating left and right.

Please excuse the hideous mspaint-job. I'm at work.

I believe the video in the first update was a placeholder for the Eshop and browser in terms of size on the system memory.

There was also a message on the video saying it would be removed on the next update.

As for the E3 videos, the links won't be up on the eshop forever, so you should probably back them up if you plan on deleting them in the near future.

This is already an improvement over the current gui of the e-shop, I really really hope they update it =[

Does the 3DS support a standard for 3d video? Could I copy a 3D trailer for Uncharted3 on there, and watch in glasses-free 3D?
No, not yet at least. There's no video application to play videos at the moment either. The game trailers downloadable may have the player embedded. Hopefully in the future they'll have a proper video player available.

I wish the bottom screen would turn black, or off, after a little bit of inactivity while the trailers are playing. It's distracting seeing a big bright screen with a pause button.

Just because Nintendo of Europe is based in Germany they aren't a "paper company", what the heck are you talking about.

NoE's management of Wii's and 3DS's online services is lacking so far, but it doesn't speak for a company just run by "businessmen in suits" when they decide to localize games like Xenoblade or apparently Last Story even though flushing money down the toilet would be as efficient.

The thing is, as far as games go, I really have a hard time complaining in Europe. We usually get good localizations, with good adaptations and mostly the Pal versions were allways the ones with less bugs, but as far as promotions and online presence goes, NOE is a joke.

Yeah man, the trailers are most impressive. I was feeling a little buyer's remorse for jumping on the 3DS train at launch, but now I am super pumped for the games coming out this holiday. And I'm showing everyone else I know, mostly to make them jealous :p
