Fantastic OP.

I've never been so excited for a console as I am with the 3DS. The only thing that comes close is my hype for the SNES...though that was muted a bit because there was no way I could convince my parents to buy it for me anywhere near launch anyways :P

I wouldn't hold my breath with that one :(

Well, going by the prices here in the UK, most Wii games are sold at £35 (the RRP is higher though), and the DS games are usually a fiver cheaper. I don't see how Nintendo can raise the 3DS games to the same price a Wii game sells for.

I think the 3DS games will retail for slightly higher price than the DS, i don’t think resident evil (for expample) will be £25 when it comes out, the development cost will be higher.

I think a £5 hike will happen

Incredible OP.

I know we don't know the price yet, but do we know what the launch titles are?

Kid Icarus is a 100% definite for launch. Other than that, we don't know yet. Street Fighter IV, Ocarina of Time, Pilotwings and Starfox look like pretty safe bets for launch though.

That would make a pretty damn awesome launch lineup.

EDIT: I guess it's not meant to be :(

Street Fighter isn't planned for this fiscal year bro.

And as in terms of pricing, with developments costs rising, I can see them charging a bit more per game.

Ono said that SSFIV 3DS was like at 10% on a recent Famitsu interview...so, I'm not betting on being released on launch.

Ah right, I must have missed that bit of news when I was on holiday. Either way then, I can't imagine them not releasing with a big name Nintendo franchise - Starfox and Ocarina fit the bill perfectly.

I've said this before and,
while i'm not gay,

if this system had a dick, i'd suck it.

it would be totally worth it

didn't they pretty much confirmed already (3D-)VC support for 3DS?
you can bet they will include GB and GBA games

they are unwilling to comment on those "proof of concept" demos. although it would be fucking awesome

They just showed old 2d games in 3d. Nothing is confirmed. My guess it's that it's an easy way to show how 2d games can look in 3d.

Maybe the GB line will stick with handhelds while consoles stays with consoles.. Hopefully I'm wrong.

When is TGS, and if we don't get a launch date/price/launch title lineup, will that effectively mean no 2010 launch?

Awesome, awesome, awesome post sir. This is super helpful for someone like me who barely knows anything about the 3DS or how 3D works in general. Thanks!

Nintendo doesn't attend TGS, but they are having a small event sometime around the same time (near the end of september)

Good man.

We won't get rumble in a virtual version though :(

this game had a separate rumble pack right? well if they made it a downloadable game on the 3DS, they could fix that. although we still don't know if the 3DS even has rumble. infact, no handheld had built-in rumble (that I know of)

Great work on the OP! I definitely feel like I have a better understanding on the 3D element of this console now :)

About that, something is telling me that Nintendo hasn't fully reveal everything there is to know about the 3DS hardware to the public. Just like how we've learned about the Wiimote speaker hours away from E3 2006 or the DS touchscreen. Hell, we haven't heard anything about the 3DS software other than the CrossPass mode.

what do you mean by separate?

I don't think rumble is that big of a feature that you're not announcing it now. It's more of a battery sucker.

All I know is that the 3DS will be mine day one. I'm probably one of the few people in the world that skipped the DS this gen so I have a lot of catching up to do in regards to games.

Awesome work, OP. I especially like the physical screen size comparison pic. It reassures me that it won't be too small to play with, since I was comfortable playing on the original DS, and it's included as a reference point.

compare to the iPhone's 320 x 480

Wouldn't it be a bit fairer to use the 960x640 resolution of the current top end iPhone, since it will have been on the market five to nine months by the time the 3DS is released? Not all iPhones have that resolution, but the vast majority of new buyers will be purchasing this model, yesno?

I'm pretty sure there were games that had a rumble attachment. I know the DS had one
nono, it's built into the cartridge. Just like Pokemon Pinball and stuff.

DS rumble is the GBA slot.

Yeah, but you are reading this thread in the present, not on the 3DS release day.

I am sure there would be a different thread by then.

Ouch. That's a lot of games.

It's weird, even after all this console wars stupidity this gen, I still considered it to be implied that the DS is the console that it would be a necessity to own.

It sucks, because I could never do the catching up with other BC consoles.
