Talk about a turn around for the 3DS. It began its lifecycle almost dead on the water, and yet Nintendo managed to make it one of the best handhelds ever.

I love my N3DS (and my 2DS!) and I couldn't be happier with them.

A proper account system would be pretty sweet, though... It's coming, at least.

Not bad.

Wonder how long it'll take for the next Nintendo handheld to come out. Not gonna purchase it unless it has a high resolution screen (1080p at least) and the processing power to support it. Don't care much about the 3D aspect so I'd gladly trade that away in favor of the above.

edit:
I agree, 1080p may be asking for too much. If the screen size remains that of the normal 3DS 720p might do well enough.

Holy heck. It beat the PSP.

The way that thing kept going over there, I half expected it to still be considerably ahead.
Depends on tracker. In MC it's still behind PSP. Will pass it of course early next year even there. I wonder if 3DS will be the last deticated gaming hardware that passes 20 million in Japan. Chances are high.

Lol, 1080p AT LEAST, even :p Yeah, that's not gonna happen. Maybe Nintendo's next, next handheld will have something close to that maybe around 7-8 years from now.

3DS is one of the greatest examples of a turnaround story ever.

It did so poorly in year one both software and hardware and now look at it. Amazing console.

Games mate. Games. That's what counts. And the 3ds has a ton of great ones. That's why it sold 20 mill.
Thanks Mon Hun

It's somewhat sad that third parties slept on the 3DS' successor. There's a high chance that they'll never be another system this successful.

Not bad.

Home consoles are struggling to push 1080p, ain't no chance in hell a handheld will(definitely not a Nintendo one!)

Games do count. However, the resolution on the 3DS really is below a threshold I find appropriate these days. Maybe 1080p is actually a bit high reaching, but 720p should be a must have. I like looking at my phone, I do not so much like clearly making out single pixels on my 3DS.

With Yokai 3, Yokai + Romance of 3 Kingdoms, Monster Hunter Stories, DQ Mosnters Joker 3 and Dragon Quest XI, it'll be very easy for 3DS to hit 25 million mark in one year.

In west however, it'll be dead by summer next year. Yokai Watch was a bomb and west couldn't care less about Dragon Quest. It was a pretty good run though.

Nice. Such an amazing library of games. I'll be curious to see if their next handheld does better or worse.

720p is more plausible but I think even modern mobile hardware struggles to push high performance games at that res. I'd personally rather have a lower res screen with native games.

I'm personally still expecting 480p or 540p.

I'd prefer to have a relatively high minimum resolution like 720p and deliver 'simple' but very well stylized graphics. So, pretty much what most of Nintendo's titles already do. Top tier art direction is what counts. Third person shooters that aim for realism wouldn't do well here but then those have never been what the Nintendo handheld market really demands if I'm not mistaken.

And Nintendo titles do that at 720p/60fps on Wii U hardware. What you're asking for is probably still not in the range of a $150-200 profitable handheld.

I really hope it's another remake instead of Pokémon Z. Every possible event pokémon and forme pokéMon has been revealed so there won't be any hype for Pokémon Z and it'd be least sold pokémon game ever.

A Black/White remake would be the best thing ever. Because, you know, it's the best pokémon game ever.

Sales are in decline, it barely topped 2M this year and you're calling 5M for next year "very easy"?

That'd probably be the ideal but you also have to take into account what third parties want. Nintendo hasn't always been great at that but people like Capcom want to make detailed looking games. Also if they do plan to share lineups between handheld/console more detail at lower res will probably benefit them.

It's Z and you know it.

Going by sales of past third versions it should sell 5 million at least. Not great by Pokemon standards but still a top ten 3DS title.

Not sure about 5M but to be fair , a new Mainline Dragon Quest with 16 bits art style options is also coming out. breaking 2M should be easy.
