Aren't updates like a separate app on the 3DS?, I assume if you don't need it you can just uninstall the update (just talking out of my ass here).
I've no idea, unfortunately, which is why I asked.
Too late now, anyway. I just now updated it to v1.1.
So before I take the plunge on this, can I get a final confirmation?
If I update my firmware now on my old 3DS to the most recent version, then download the game, I can use the new Ninjhax?
Nope. Even if you reformat a system the update stays.

either 1.0 or 1.1 is fine. get 1.1 if you want to play the game online. DLC is not required, but don't hesitate to get it, the game is neat!
Aw crap I totally didn't see your reply until now (apparently I deleted this thread from my subscriptions), so sorry about that especially since you answered my question so fast.Currently, the latest version of the 3DS firmware will work with the Cubic Ninja exploit and regionfour. If your 3DS happens to be on 9.2 or lower, you can exploit in for free - however you can't go any higher than emunand (clone of your real 3DS NAND) 9.5, so no eShop and eventually new games won't work.
The Cubic Ninja exploit will certainly get patched in the next firmware update, so if you're willing to gamble on the possibility of their not being another method and therefore not playing games made before 2016 (a guess - could be earlier) then get one. Otherwise, I wouldn't do it and get a hackable old 3DS (which can be hacked and stay updated)
*clicks link*Edit: In case people take this the wrong way, these kinds of games are good things to find exploits in due to their availability to the more typical 3DS user (rather than me who will not bend over and take shitty exchange rates up the ass and random bouts of ...this).
More than likely, it will allow the same amount of code execution Cubic Ninja does. I would assume it will allow region free. Problem is, game isn't out in Japan, so an N3DS from there is a no go if you want a free exploitBtw I take it that this new Ironfall exploit people are talking about is not yet confirmed to enable region free without needing Cubic Ninja?
I'd assume it's all 3DS models unless otherwise stated.any word if it's n3ds
bothany word if it's n3ds
Look into rxTools - it's a free solution that works on 9.2 or lower and allows you to run homebrew/pirated games/whatever while keeping a higher firmware.I have a 9.2 3DSXL. I have both Cubic Ninja en OoT on cartridges.
All I want is to permanently install that upcoming Homebrew Channel
Should I do anything (update? download that e-shop title?)
Hmmm I do also have an European 3DS XL with Ironfall though (and also OoT on cartridge). So I guess now I have to decide betweenMore than likely, it will allow the same amount of code execution Cubic Ninja does. I would assume it will allow region free. I would modify the European 3DS, personally. The Ironfall exploit will only require an SD card (implied) and will let you do everything the Cubic Ninja exploit does (they very likely have the same level of access for loading stuff)Hmmm I do also have an European 3DS XL with Ironfall though (and also OoT on cartridge). So I guess now I have to decide between
- Modding my Japanese N3DS with video capture kit, and find Cubic Ninja somewhere and hope the region free exploit keeps working (and/or another free exploit is found in the future)
- Modding my European N3DS XL with video capture kit, and hope the Ironfall/OoT exploit will allow region free.
I'm going to the modder on the 10th so I have to decide soon >_<. Why does this have to be so difficult D:
Ironfall exploit, by the way it's being hyped up, will be standalone and not require another game or other hardware.Downloaded Ironfall. So I'm seeing conflicting posts around the net about these exploits. Will Cubic Ninja be required? Or a flashcart? Or should we just wait for more info?

Have 3DNES OR BlargSnes improved any? Do we have any good GBA, MD or PCE emus yet? Any new word on Retroarch coming or not?
Can .gba files be run natively (or by an emulator) with any current exploit?
citragb is an emulator, port of gpsp. Not great compatibility yet and no scaling, but minish cap does run full speed.
otherwise, you can use pasta cfw to rom inject GBA VC games:

and that has superb compatibility from what I can tell, running natively through interpretation

can't wait to see what comes out of this ironfall thing. i don't wanna buy an overpriced copy of cubic ninja but i sure as hell will take any free exploit that lets me play an import copy of rhythm tengoku the best
Wait for Smealum to announce what to do.Still no idea what to do with Ironfall
It takes the GBA VC games and just replaces the ROM (and banner if you want) with another game. It only works if you have CFW as you need to install them as separate home menu apps. How does that work? Is it like what some did with the GBC/GB games a while back ('injecting' them into the SD card and then opening them using an existing VC game) or something different.
Regardless, that is really cool and a sign that GBA games can run on 3DS quite well.
The homebrew GBA emulator isn't much (or even?) better than what you would get on a PSP. For the native GBA compatibility, you need CFW - which at this time, isn't possible unless you have a 9.2 console - but a kernel exploit is always possible so if you're patient - might get lucky. So if I wanted to run emulators on my 3DS (GBA,NES,GB), I don't need a flash cart and possibly with this Ironfall exploit, Cubic Ninja for that matter?
Being able to tote my GBA collection on my 3DS would be amazing. Right now I use the PSP and the graphics options kind of bug me...

Okay - the .db files seem really tricky at first, but it's rather simple to fix. Basically, assuming you're using rxTools (with Pasta) - restore your original db files. At this point, any GBA games you installed won't appear anymore but your eShop stuff will be back. From here, just keep your original .db files install any hacked/backup games from there. You'll then have both working. Additionally, make periodic backups of your db files in case something goes wrong. Can you (or anyone else) explain how to access my eShop games after installing Pasta CFW? During the install process you had to replace the dbs folder with a new one containing hacked .db files, and then had to format the portion of your memory card which contained all of your eshop titles. After installing Pasta CFW I moved the "titles" folder (which contains all of my eshop games) that I had backed up back to its original location on the SD card but my games still don't show up. I'm guessing the title.db file from the dbs folder basically dictates which games on your SD card you can access? Meaning I would have to restore the original dbs folder to my SD card to play my old games if I don't want to re-download everything? But if I did that I would lose access to the GBA games I've installed on Pasta CFW. Do I have this correct?
