3DS Photography Thread

Blue, a couple of things that could make your pictures turn out better:

I'm not certain what you're doing for the second image, but you gotta be more consistent. When you move the camera for the second picture, take a baby step sideways, stand up straight for each pic, don't tilt or pan the camera, be careful not to lean closer to the subject, etc. A couple of your pics turned out ok but the others were misaligned for a couple of those reasons, and they can't correct that in StereoPhoto Maker. edit: I see you acknowledged you do this in a previous post, so maybe if you hold your elbows at your ribcage and stand up straight and take a baby step sideways between shots it should help your alignment alot.

The other thing is that the MPO's were swapped left and right. For universal compatibility with 3DS owners and anaglyph glasses, etc, you'll want the left image on the left side and the right image on the right.

Crap! Didn't know about the swapping of the left and right images (been using the cross eyed technique to judge the final image which shows the effect strongly). I wish I didn't throw away the pair of paper anaglyph glasses I used to own.

Definitely agree about the consistency. I was actually trying out the "Eye swap" technique but I think the amount of movement from one eye to the other may have been too much and I probably tilted the camera in the movement. Will definitely go back to the old way and move my whole body instead.

This one was done in the AR drawing game. I cheated using the picture of mario though.

Here's the link to my gallery if you want the .mpo files to view on your 3DS.

Thanks.

I hope they show up side side by side for you guys, the side by side option on 3D Porch has the sides mixed up so the cross eye method doesn't work. I had to manually post each left and right image backwards. Is there an option somewhere on the site to swap the sides when viewing the .jps?

No, but on their twitter feed he said he's gonna include crosseye as an option.

How did you get your Mii's lighting just right on the middle picture?
Sorry for the late reply, but I really didn't do anything. I'm not sure how the lighting and the 3DS made such a kick ass picture. Tomorrow's assignment is life sized Mii pics.

Wow, I had no idea you could use the circle pad to adjust the 3D slider instead of using the slider on the system itself. It certainly makes certain pictures much nicer to look at.

Your cats do not seem amused.
Well, since cats being like women can never be pleased, no they aren't amused in general. They especially weren't amused since I woke up 2 of them and disrupted the third's grooming, and so no they weren't exactly happy about posing for a picture. They suffered it at least, so I'm happy.

AR photos seem way better than normal 3D photos for some reason.
The closer the subjects are to the camera, the stronger the 3D effect will be. How far away you can be from your subject and still get satisfying depth is determined by how far apart the 2 lenses are and how big is the screen you're viewing it on.

On the 3DS the lenses are about 1.5 inches apart. The range calculated is about 2.5-4.5 feet if you intended other 3DS owners to view the image, and the range balloons to 7.5 feet if you want 3DTV owners to be your audience.

The only pics I've taken are of my cats.

From front to back (also youngest to eldest) they're Zebadiah, Jacob, and Esau.
I'm guilty of that too :3

I also took one while driving by a railroad track (in the passenger seat, of course)

(that one looks way better in 3D)

To cater to multiple display sizes, I am making 2 versions of each pic: one for big screens and one for crosseye/3DS users.

Single, non-crosseyed jpgs would also be useful for lazy 3DS owners (the 3DS uses both a .mpo for 3D and a .jpg for 2D, and some pictures require them both for some reason).
Thanks for the contributions, most of your shots look really awesome.

Whoa, trying them later. This could be pretty amazing.

Seeing some of these pictures really makes me appreciate the 3D depth slider. A few of the pictures I've downloaded just don't have enough depth at all, and the characters look flat.

With more depth, characters in the game will have dimension.

Why would you do that? said:

Yeah, I don't think it should count as 3d if it's just a 2d cardboard cutout on a layer above a 2d background. That's cheating.

Hmm...that's weird. I haven't run into that problem. All of mine are .mpos without .jpg. When in 2D mode, the system just uses the right image from the .mpo as far as I know. :/

I've never had an SD card reader, but would like to pick one up. Can I get away with something cheap? Can I just get a USB thumb drive that lets you slip in an SD card?

I bought one at micro center for $2 and it works fine.

I just bought one of those, and it works fine.
Though i'm currently a little far away from society right now, so I bought it from newegg. Works fine though.

I'll include that from now on. Does the crosseye JPEG work as an alternate?

Muramasa looks incredible in 3D.
I really want to see it but I keep getting told that "the file you are trying to access is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."

Can anyone reupload them?
