3DS Photography Thread

Most, if not all of the pictures here are awesome, but I especially like that Canadian goose. There are tons of them by my school. Maybe I should take some pictures of them, too...

Has anyone got any tips on improving loading times with the 3DS camera? I've loaded a ton of 3D pictures from Wii/GCN games (yep that source that was posted earlier) and now it seems to take an eternity to load (I've probably got about 500 pictures on there)

I don't want to delete them but the loading times are really bad now.
What I do is, I put added 3D pictures into their own individual folders, so Muramasa pics would go in DCIM\100_MURA and Halo in DCIM\100_HALO.

Then, when I'm done with them or I just want to make the menu easier to navigate, I will put the 100_xxxx folders in a new folder, something like DCIM\other\100_xxxx. The 3DS won't show them, but they're still on the SD card.

Uh-oh, now you're gonna get tons of PMs from shy people requesting the site...

Me, I'm not shy, spill it already! I wanna knooooow... Uh... For research purposes, of course.
In reality, I'd never do anything naughty with a Nintendo product. But still.

cakefoo, is that dome on that building in your first photo an observatory? Where was that photo taken? Interesting landscape.
I think it's an observatory, yeah. It's in Sedona Arizona, below the Chapel of the Holy Cross. Some inventor of medical gadgetry owns it, or at least that's what I found in the comments of this blog.

A lot of people seem to be convinced it's Nicholas Cage's house, but someone who got to see the inside of the mansion claims his house is on a large hill nearby, and has a picture of it along with other pics of the inside of this mansion here.

Wow, interesting, thanks. That's really weird to build such an enormous house with an observatory in it, but I guess the location would be good for observing if you did have millions of dollars lying around for a house like that.

Here are some stills from the videos I've made in the past year. There are a few shitty quality pics; those are the ones that I either shot in slow-mo and/or in low light.

Low-mode rig for my Hague MMC:

My rig is usually comprised of dual cameras on top of a Steadicam-ish stabilizer called a Hague MMC. I've found that not only does this give me good video technically, but it also gets me more attention from people I'm recording. It's really fun, especially in big festivals. It really reminds me of back in the day when just plain 2D camcorders were the new thing.

Is it possible to convert an anaglyph image to mpo format?
It might be doable to get a grayscale MPO, though I don't know of an instant method. If you've got a program that will let you split an image into R/G/B parts you could then save the R as one gray image and the B or G as the other gray image, and use some other program like StereoPhoto Maker to merge them into an MPO.

Hmmm, I wonder if you put anaglyph filters in front of the lenses of a 3D camera and took a picture of an anaglyph image if you could get a 3D picture out of it.

Yes, I've done this. Took a pair of anaglyph glasses, put them in front of the cameras of my 3DS, then took pictures of anaglyph images from my PC screen.

For easier viewing go into the camera settings and switch it to B&W or sepia.

I put the mpo files from this thread into my 3ds photo folder along with the jpg but they're not showing up in my 3ds when i search for them.Any reason for that?

edit: forgot to read the op, whoops!

How come everything is squished in the Wind Waker screens in this thread but the HUD looks alright?

Were those made using Dolphin?

I'm absolutely amazed by the shots of Halo: Reach, Uncharted and Wind Waker when viewed on my 3DS btw... Halo Reach looks gorgeous in 3D

I took a bunch of 3D shots of some illuminated fountains at night - the exposure is okay, but the 3D effect is lacking in some of them, because I think the auto depth didn't like the low light, and I was too clumsy to set it manually.

Is there any software that will take the two separate images, and try and re analyse them to produce a better 3D effect?

You can use the analog stick on the 3DS to tweak the distance between the two pictures that form the 3D image and obtain a different 3D effect, but besides this once the pictures are taken there's not much you can do. They're just two 2D pictures taken at different angles, your brain is what makes them look 3D.

How come this one's wider than the others?
Convergence tweaks in StereoPhoto Maker. Convergence is the same thing the 3DS's slide pad controls- pushing things back or pulling them forward relative to the screen's plane. The more the convergence is adjusted, the more the image gets cropped at the sides.

Updated my 3D Halo Reach images to include part of the "Nightfall" level. I've been really busy with boring life stuff, so updating these has kind of taken a back seat! Hope to complete all campaign levels at some point. Will update with a .rar of all images once I create more.

Some of these have quite strong 3D effects (just like some of the others), so it might take a little time to 'get' them.

Just a heads up, www.3dporch.com works with the 3DS browser, just click the .mpo to view it and you have the option to save it to your SD card. This is definitely an easier method than before.
Yeah, pretty fucking neat.

Now where's the porn at?

Is there a way for people to direct link their images and upload their 3DS images from the 3DS browser yet, so we can view them in 3D?

It was very cool on some other sites yesterday to see everyones photos with no hassle.

Tried out 3DPorch's ability to upload directly from 3DS. I kept getting a Communication Error message from the browser. However, I look today to see I ended up with 8 of the image! I get the error was communicating to me that it worked.

My beef with 3DS photos, more than even the low quality and resolution, is that we can't even count on them being pictures from the same moment, which is kiiind of important for 3D shots of anything not completely static. I think this picture is the one of mine where it's most obvious a bit of time has elapsed.

Wow, yeah. What the hell, Nintendo?!

Not porn, but 3D pictures of attractive ladies I've found on the web and converted to 3DS friendly resolutions. All are PG-13 rated (no exposed naughty bits) but some are a little racy and may be considered NSFW.

Here's the direct links to the MPO files, come back here in your 3DS browser and just click the links to view them in 3D.
Awesome. Thanks dude.

I do love taking pictures of animals whenever I get the chance to. It's also a challenge due to them running away if I get too close due to the lack of zoom in.

Been meaning to post something here for a few months now, so here's a start. Here's both wigglevision and MPO links to view on your 3DS. Yes, I was at Distant Worlds Chicago, at both concerts, and yes, the man who looks like he's shouded in pure white light is Uematsu-san himself.

Also on that bus picture, it doesn't look like there was any time lapse at all, and we were going 65 mph, and the tree looks to be where they should if both went instantaneously and were viewed how they are from each eye.

Great news for Sony A33/A55 (and perhaps NEX) owners: you can take 3D pictures and read it straight from your SD card plugged in the 3DS. How? In your camera set in 3D panorama, go to the menu and select 16/9 instead of wide. As this 16/9 option only appears in 3D mode, I missed it for weeks. Found it by luck yesterday and it just works.

Makes me love my A55 camera even more :)

Images are cool, but movies are so much better.

Is there any word yet on Nintendo letting us watch our own movies on this?

Hey guys!

So i'm having fun with 3D now that i have a 3ds.

But anyway, i've got a question regarding 3ds. Why the black blurry border sometimes when viewing a picture ?? (Like those shot with the camera of the 3ds).

Cause when i browse on the net a 400x240 mpo, it's full screen, but if i save it to the sd card, it's with blurry canvas...

We should probably 'reboot' this thread to make it more 3DS browser freindly. Make the rules that you must post direct links the the MPO files and only one picture per post to keep within the 3DS browsers memory limits. That way people can just bookmark the thread in the 3DS browser and easily view the 3D pictures.

I might do it later if nobody else does.
