4 mins of Skull and Bones alpha test Gameplay leaked

The sailing is good so far, smooth and immersive in terms of movement. You start out in a Slooper/small row boat with one sail. "Home base" seems convoluted and confusing. Camera angle needs to be brought back to set things in a proper, more comfortable perspective. Game isn't optimized so 1080p is where it's at per stable framerate. Character creation is limited. Overworld map is enormous, would expect tons of things to do from exploration, pvp/pve battles, clans/pirate dens to buy and raid, harpooning for resources, deep sea exploration, water polo. Tbh though, I wish Ubi would remake Assassin's Creed: Black Flag instead of making this game.

I liked Black Flag because of the mix of stuff you could do. Wouldn't want to play a game with JUST the ship combat. But I'm also sure this will be a microtransaction-filled shitfest, so whatever.

Where is this being made? The girl talking in the video sounds Chinese to me, not French (but of course people of different nationalities work at Ubi).

So it's similar to Black Flag but they took out all the Assassins Creed bullshit and replaced it with all the never ending GAAS grind bullshit.
Looks like it could be fun with a couple of friends, though if there isn't much to do aside from being in your ship it could also get old fast.

It really depends on the loot and how good it is, I don't want to find something that gives me +1%-5% buffs of a dumb stat that does almost nothing.

I'd like to find shit as special as Elden Ring weapons in the loot.

It won't happen, the loot will just be the main meta of a soulless grindfest.

What do you know?

Removing all the awful Assassin's Creed bullshit makes it actually look like fun.

I'd normally agree, however remember Black Flag came out 2013, it was probably the last decent AC game.

I would have loved Black Flag 2, however if it came these days it would be with all the modern day AC shite that make those games so awful.

This game looks interesting though.

The nicest thing I can say about it is that it's making me want to replay AC4.

I just can't get my head around how long it's taken them to produce something that really just looks like "What if we took the naval combat stuff people liked and made a MMO-lite out of it." Black Flag was 2013, and this (in terms of design, not graphical fidelity) looks like it should have leaked in 2016, ahead of an E3 showing for a Christmas 2017 release.

would really look forward to this if it was a singleplayer only experience like blackflag. This is a gaas game with all the pitfalls awaiting.

Update: I'm now listening to the Black Sails soundtrack at work and definitely planning to download Black Flag tonight. So I guess that's something--and probably either of those is a smarter choice than waiting for this thing.

Black Flag was a pretty good foundation they could've built on. If you removed the need for Ubi towers, the plethora of useless collectibles and map markers, fleshed out the ship combat, implemented sword-based combat that's actually good, and added a base-building mechanic, you'd come pretty close to having the perfect pirate game.

Agreed. Add in some goods shipping aspects, buff up the loot you could sell off raided merchants, and add more AI pirate personalities that weren't cruising in giant behemoth boss ships. Maybe work in the LOTR Nemesis system (oh fuck, I might have just broken my brain......).

I'm OK with abstracting land combat or port blockades or whatever to focus on ship actions but it would be nice to be able to run around some areas at least.

Is this from that "Insider Program" they were touting months ago?

No. BF was fun but the space to improve the ship combat was clearly there. Relative to a singleplayer experience it was fine and people (like myself) enjoyed it, however there was clearly room to do more with this that never materialized in subsequent adventures. Putting into its own game makes sense.
It makes sense if your trying to capture an entirely different market. But if they are trying to capture black flag fans this isn't going to do it.

But maybe that's not what they are going for and are aiming for a world of tanks style genre.
