500+ hour Metal Gear marathon on Twitch started today

Ya'll haven't lived until you've seen drk play through MGS4 in its entirety like a 3rd person shooter with Oishii Two-Han Seikatsu constantly looping over and over and over on the iPod.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly how Kojima intended the game to be enjoyed.

I've never laughed so much for so many hours straight.

Based on the last couple pages, you all are really hyping up this drk MGS4 playthrough more than usual. Gonna have to watch it.

The guy shoots the resistance member so he can limp to the destination with Piano music in the background. What's not to like about that?

Edit: Ughhh the shitty characters from MGS3 being Patriots. Screw that.

Can't watch the stream right now, what is he talking about?

Basically, MGS3 wasn't even suppose to exist in the way we know it. It was a project initially made by Kojima's team without him, but he had to step in. MGS1 and 2 meshed well because it was planned. Shoehorning MGS3 was ridiculous. MGS2 was suppose to be the final MGS from Kojima.

"You give zero shits about making sense. I'll give zero shits about playing this part properly." Oh Drk, you crack me up.

Also
having retrieved the body from GW even though GW was destroyed while Solidus was still alive

And there were people that heavily argued that MGS4 didn't retcon stuff.

Drk29 spitting hot fire. It was stupid how they tried to connect MGS3 to MGS1/2.

man he is just straight mad... soo much shitting on 4 :( shame it wasnt that bad... i didnt much like the ending but the game was awesome...
ironic too because everyone was drooling over it when it came out..

anyone know when threedogg is streaming again?

All three of the streamers will shit on MGS4. These guys are purists after all. People were drooling over MGS4 during the honeymoon period. I think uKnighted stated that it was okay at first, then it got worst for them after every playthrough. They started noticing more story flaws with every playthrough and the lack of gameplay made it worst.

That's how you play MGS4 according to Drk. Threedog does the same. I'm not sure about uKnighted though.

They'll shit on rising too. I get why they hate mgs4 so much... They got to go through the cut scenes and codec. If they skipped all that, it wouldn't be that bad.

after playing mgs4 recently, Act 1, 2 and 4, plus the ending boss fight and Big Boss epilogue are the only worthwhile parts of the game. The Beauties, Drebin stories, Codecs, weapons, stalking, shitpants marrying Meryl, most of it is just boring.

Snake and Eva not noticing that Big Boss's lost eye was on his right, not the left.

ah

crazy thing is that their not even halfway through the 500 hours lol.

if you think he hate mgs4. hear him on twin snakes.

He didnt want to do hard mode at all just so he could get through it quicker lol

The Adam and Eve "symbolism" makes me want to smack my head into a brick wall over and over.

Edit: Liquid's fingerbang has to be the stupidest thing I've ever seen.

Note: This is my first time watching anything from MGS4.

Man @
drk pointing out what both Eva and Snake should know about the truth behind the body.
Strange, but
Solidus looks like he might not be all human anymore, prosthetic bits and such. Not crazy to think that if it was Big Boss he might have had several reconstruction attempts.

I think the game gets a bit too much hate. Particularly comments on butchering characters. Raiden is now fighting for what he believes in, which is what MGS2 would leave us to believe. Reusing the name Raiden is a strange choice but overall I feel his position is appropriate. Did people expect him to become less invested in the elaborate workings of the Patriots?

Wait I thought that
Eva knew it wasn't Big Boss' body. She just sacrificed herself to make it believable.
Or am I missing something.

Incidentally he's addressing this poitn right now.

Strange, but
Big Boss is later shown missing his eye still.

Raiden is now fighting for what he believes in, which is what MGS2 would leave us to believe.
He ends up going back to his "old persona" because he thinks Rose left him. Everything he does is because he's in a depressed state.

Big Boss is later shown missing his eye still.
I know.
I'm saying the idea that it could still be his body isn't completely outlandish because a destroyed Big Boss would have likely had attempts to be saved/reconstructed.
Regardless of the reality of
Big Boss's
physical state.

DRK has some good points. MGS4 really does feel like Kojima didn't truly want to make the game and that he did it to appease the fans and Konami. Its almost as if Kojima plagiarised a random fanfic he found on the web. The Johnny and Meryl abomination feels like material straight out of a fanfic. Its a shame because the game does have some truly great moments.

Based on the MGS4 epilogue, this isn't right.
Campbell took Rose in to protect her and Raidens son so Raiden could "complete his mission". That means his mission (and likely persona) pre-date any perceived changes to his relationship.

I think all the times Kojima publicly said he didn't want to direct MGS4 and was only brought in back due to death treats prove that he was more or less force to do it and it shows.

That doesn't change the fact that he has a very droll and depressed personality throughout the game. Rising actually gives us the "Raiden that fights for what he believes in".

Except in Rising he completely loses faith in his ideals halfway though and only survives due to once again reverting to a comic book-esque transformation.

This is my biggest problem with MGS4. It tries too hard to tie up all loose ends, even ones that didn't need tying up or explicit explanation. It brings back damn near every character for the timeline just for the sake up giving them an ending, most of the time to the detriment of their previous character arcs. Too much fanservice and winking like "Hey! Remember this from a previous game?! WINK WINK." It deals too much with previous happenings and characters without concerning itself with building a compelling narrative within itself.

It is beyond terrible how it takes Snake, Campbell and Otacon literally 10 minutes to figure out Liquid is going to Shadow Moses, even though the video footage has Liquid literally saying "we'll use Rex".

That's pretty crazy, I missed all that. Well it does show. I can't really blame the guy, he has always said "this is my last Metal Gear!" And we are quite the rabid fanbase..

I wonder what changed between MGS4 and MGS5. This may be a bit early to say as MGS5 isn't out yet, but it really feels like Kojima put his heart and soul into it. It is quite the contrast to the feel leading up to MGS4's release

He's had a hardon for open world games ever since seeing GTA go 3d, so I think MGS5 is really the game he's been wanting to make for years.

The Patriots are always watching? I'm not sure now...

The fact that Mei Ling basically told something they already know and EXPERIENCED...wow...

Huh. I mean, ever since 3 was revealed to be a jungle, open-world seemed inevitable.

LMAO @ Encounter Remix !!!!

This is the best shit I've seen all day

It was the same with 3 and yet people rarely hold that against it.

Because 3 actually seems like a passion project and something he enjoyed doing. 4 is just a depressing romp that Kojima forced himself to finish, satisfying no one.
