Such a Mary Sue and boring character. All she is to me is just over-exaggerated backstory. Backstory the character.

I wish I could downvote this.

Anyone here able to answer a question, probably has a simple one but I honestly dont know it, why does Ocelote have a gruff southern accent in MGS 1-2 and in Snake Eater/Phantom Pain he have a very neutral American accent?

Is it just because he was young? I loved his tone and distinct manner in the first MGS games.

From the trailers it sounds like he has a southern accent in TPP.

Ive seen a few hours of footage, honestly it doesnt come across that way at all

It probably has no explanation, its just on my mind a bit, unsure why its not consistent.

Kojima hasn't wanted to make Metal Gear Solid games since 2.

And yet he made 4 more.

His accent was a ruse all along. *cue stinger sound*

In MGS3 it's most likely definitely because he's young, it would be awkward if it was a gruff old... western voice coming out of that really young Ocelot.

However, TPP I can't really explain it other than it's... probably business-related more than anything else. Whether it's because the original VA is no longer interested in voicing the character (or can't do it anymore) or availability of the VA, Konami wasn't willing to pay the amount he wanted (if Kojima was looking to bring him back, remember Hayter had to take a pay cut for Twin Snakes to bring back all those VAs for it), or since Troy Baker is actually in tons of video games it's easier to cast him for the role instead of reaching for a guy who hasn't done the voice in over... 9 years (TTS released in 2004, right?)

Patric Zimmerman also voiced Ocelot in MGS4.

I've said this before, I don't see how Baker's Ocelot's voice fits inbetween Mgs3 and Mgs1. Tone wise, it makes no sense to me.
Eli Wallach is a good example. He's in the same range as ocelot, and you see he maintains that range from middle age to old age.

It's because he wanted to keep making them. Do not fall for his "I'm a tortured developer" bullshit. He makes Metal Gear because he wants to make Metal Gear.

Of course he wants to make Metal Gear games. But he also wants to make other shit too.

He's not saying he's a tortured developer. Just like the message of MGS and passing on the genes, memes, scenes, senses etc.. onto the next generation, Kojima hoped his team could carry the MGS torch so he could go off and create something new (Boktai, Silent Hills etc...) so he wouldn't be known only for Metal Gear.

Unfortunately his team failed, and since Metal Gear is tied to his name he couldn't let a mainline MGS fail.

Blame Koji Pro.
We probably could have gotten a ZOE3 if they were able to carry on the Boss' will

For MGS3 you can probably explain it with most of the game actually being in spoken Russian, just "dubbed" and presented in English so they didn't bother with accents for guards or any other Russian characters. And over time his accent developed to be more Americanized/Southern, and TPP seems to be a bridge leading towards his older and more gruff MGS1/2/4 voice.

I disagree with this. To me, Hideo Kojima simply wants to keep making Metal Gear. Not because he "doesn't trust his team" with the franchise. He simply keeps getting new ideas, and wants to make new games about them.

Doesn't matter now, I doubt Konami will be working with Kojima Productions again. Kojima will be making something new of course.

Edit: That stupid shit is more advanced then Rex. The fuck...

I guess the only way you can consistently defend MGS4's narrative is to cling to the idea that Kojima is a pathological liar. :)

He wanted to make MGS1 & 2
Was called in to help with 3
Didn't want to make 4, but doing so probably lifted a huge burden off his back
Wanted to make PW and TPP

Doesn't seem hard to understand to me.

Damn, that's some shitty timing for that to happen.

He's only been able to stream in parts... I think the only full game playthrough he's done (as funny and sad as this sounds...) is Metal Gear Rising. He's only taken over for parts of MGS2 and I think MGS3 at one point?... Could be remembering incorrectly, though, it's been a long week lol.

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about Rising. I remembered him doing bits of some of the other games, but completely forgot about that one.
