512MB memory card in March (xbox360)

That's pretty cheap compared to the price of a 64mb memory card in the UK (£22.99 = $45). UK>US exchange rate FTL :(

lol, you so funny MS.
That's stupid pricing, but it makes the price for the 64mb one even more crazy. Such assraping.

Must be interesting doing product management for a product that's only on the market to drive consumers towards another product (the 360 hdd).

They really need to just release (or even announce) a larger HDD for $100 and drop the 20GB HDD down to $50 or $60 or so.

512 megs for $50 or 20 gigs for $100. decisions, decisions

You already failed at decisions if you bought the Core. :lol

(wireless controller instead of wired+headset+component cables+20Gb hdd) >>>>> $100 price difference.

This is IN ****ING SANE.

50 bucks!! **** YOU MS! Wii has a 2 GB SD Card available for 50 bucks! BULLSHIT!

A Nintendo branded one? Cool! Is it white to match? Also, how much is a new Wii controller?

etc. etc. etc.

Peripherals. They help pay for the subsidzed hardware. It has always been like this. if you want to be outraged, look at HDMI cables at Best Buy.

50$ for a 512mb flashcard......thats insane.

Not insane, it is just called recouping the console subsidy in over-priced accessories.

Sony was insane to have standard bluetooth for headsets, standard 2.5" SATA drives for hdd, and no proprietary memory slot for the PS3. That is all great for the consumer but business insanity for Sony. (And it may end up being lousy for PS3 consumers if it contributes to a failure of the PS3.)

$20 is STANDARD now for at least 1GB USB flash drives. There have been sales of 2GB ones for $20 as well.

I bought a memory card for $20 before I sold my 360, what a piece of shit, it's just such a useless peripheral. The Xbox/360 has never been much of a memory card friendly system. You can't move some stuff (some game saves, ALL BC game saves, etc.) and the only real reason I see for it is portable gamertag, which can be remedied with 'recover gamertag'.

Anyone without a HDD needs to be hit with a shovel.

Well, it's not like you need it to be of Nintendo brand to be able to use it. That said, there are no 3rd party wireless controllers, memory cards, or hard drives for the Xbox 360.

Holy price gouging. It's amazing to think that Sony of all companies isn't playing this game this generation and actually benefiting consumers.

That says a lot about MS and their proprietory products. We wont get into this though.

It is not like Sony has clean hands . . . the PS1 & P2 had proprietary memory cards, controllers, hdds. (Yes, there are 3rd party products but they need a license from Sony.)

Hey... you know for $80 Gamestop'll give you a 2 GB Memory Stick Pro Duo! ;)

Actually they never had proprietary hard drives... and everybody has proprietary controllers.

Point being this generation all the company's went to some media standard memory and hard drive, and are still trying to rake you over the coals for some peripherals.

Well, it's a lot less of a rip-off than the 64mb card. But that's not saying much. Having one memory device cost just twice the price and have 40x the space is really weird market positioning. :\ (And $100 for a 20GB HDD still steep.)

Blu-Ray isn't any more proprietary than DVD's or CD's are, FYI.

Uh, I'd say that it is. I believe that DVD & CD have license pools that benefit many companies. However, I think Sony gets the lion's share of Blu-Ray royalties.

Oh no, not this argument again....

in before someone beats me to it:

Blu-Ray has a license pool of "many companies" EXACTLY like DVD and CD do. in fact, CD was developed solely by Sony and Phillips and no one else while the board of directors for Blu-Ray consists of:

* Apple Inc.
* Dell
* Hewlett Packard
* Hitachi
* LG Electronics
* Mitsubishi Electric
* Panasonic (Matsushita Electric)
* Pioneer Corporation
* Royal Philips Electronics
* Samsung Electronics
* Sharp Corporation
* Sony Corporation
* TDK Corporation
* Thomson
* Twentieth Century Fox
* Walt Disney Pictures
* Warner Home Video Inc.

edit: founders are in bold.

Somehow Blu-Ray has gotten tagged as "Sony's format!!" while that's not the case. Sony is also sitting on the DVD forum as well, IIRC.
