Quick effort. Somebody else might be able to do better.

That's really good :lol

Is there a page with the meaning of all the Halo-related symbols? I recognise the two in the gamerpic set, but I don't know what they mean.

Also, I presume the sign is "WARNING: LAZR"?

2. I actually don't know how these shots are made. I'll talk to folks tomorrow and get some knowledge dropped on my face as to how they are created. Feel free to speculate otherwise until then, I haves no clue. .

They are simply consecutive screenshots stitched into a QT VR - although we obviously turned on depth of field to drop the backgrounds out of focus.

They are regular, unmolested screenshots.

God I cannot wait til you guys can take your own in-game screenshots and upload 'em to Bungie so I don't have to read the word "bullshot" ever again.

no way dude

we'll be pumping out our own bullshots! mwahaha

Yeah, when they called me up and asked me to pose for some 3D caps, I was pretty excited to say the least. I mean, how often do you get a chance to get this much online exposure? Hell, everybody knows about Bungie Day. It's a national Holiday - better than Christmas. So, as you can see, I jumped at the opportunity.

A few things. The turret isn't as heavy as it looks. Snugs right up against the body quite nicely. Of course, it helps when you're held fast inside a C Variant. Did I mention I got to wear the new C Variant? That's right, suckas. I have to say, once you hear the seals pressurize and see the grid criss cross your visor, you're never the same. It was a little tight around the crotch - I think they mentioned Frankie had been thudding around the office in it - so I needed to make some spatial adjustments, but with a little bit o' expansion, and a lot of environmental conditioning, the fit felt just right (the odd cheese smell slowly faded over time). Pure bliss, kiddos. If you ever get the chance...highly recommended.

Oh, and <3 Bungie. Mister Chief 4eva.

DOF is an option for us then? Any other enhancements?

Just woke up. BEST gamerpic yet in Marty O'Mullet. Totally amazing!

I do have one question that doesn't seem to have been brought up yet. Are the flames in that art (the one on the Love, Bungie page) there simply from explosions or there for effect, or do they hint at something else? There's a buttload of them around the edges of the pic, so could we be looking at, say, the effects of a flamethrower?

Edit: Can someone photoshop Mullet Marty onto an image of Solid Snake (He's already got the mullet) and avatar-ize it? Triumph, glory, and tons of kudos would become your eternal reward.

Grabbed the Bungie theme and the GamerPic package before I went into work this morning. On lunch now. Rockin Mister Chief as my GamerPic.

I too am rockin' the Mister Chief pic, I love Bungie they always take care of the fans.

WOW......those pics look fantastic!!!

Stinkles, kinda curious about the camera in replays. Will we be able to view them from 360 degrees or will it just be along the ground axis (like these pics)?

you know that movie the Matrix, featuring Keanu Reeves as electric Jesus? You can do all that.

Off the top of my head:

Slo mo, fast forward, free camera, turn UI/HUD off/on, following camera, first person, switch to any player, still, rotate, etc, etc. That's for movies - but you take a screenshot whenever you like.

The only thing you can't do is pass through solid geometry.

Can you pass through the invisible walls, or does that count as solid geometry?

Do we have analog control over slo-mo or is it in set fraction/s?

Wow. Saved films were always going to be God's gift to machinima (and everyone else) but that's the bag of chips right there.

I might have to rotate the Mister Chief and Marty gamer pic periodically. Both are a mix of awesome and deeply weird, and are quintessentially Bungie in their humor.

You can't pass through the invisisble walls, but you can get the camera pretty high. On the "big" desert map (its name is probably going to change), you can see almost the entire playspace from the sky

Speed control is analog, not exactly infinite, but pretty cool. One downside is that the way the engine works means reverse skips in chunks, not literally backwards. More like DVD chapter-back.

The best thing however, IMHO, is that the audio stays on. Even in stills. Which sounds weird, but it works.

Saved films will rule.

Stinkles can we get something official on whether or not multiple people will be allowed to watch the same video together in a lobby?

I thought this was said to be a part of the playback system. But according to Recon Number 54 you cannot.

In a thread started by Recon:

B.Net Goofball: Great explanation there, however I hope in the full version we will be able to watch films with others in our party at the same time. Sending a film to your friend is great and all, but there is just so much more to offer when everyone is watching the film at the same time. Pausing the film and moving the camera around, it would be like a presentation. I really really really hope we can have multiple people in the lobby watching the film at the same time.

Recon Number 54: Based on the way the system works, that is just not possible.

There is no way to take the HD video output that is being sent to your television and somehow share that huge amount of data across the Internet real-time.

You could use the Saved Film feature to edit, cut, paste, and select camera angles to build a "finished" Saved Film file that you could then post on your share. Then people would download the small data file and reproduce the film using their console's horsepower to display it on their television.

Recon is incorrect about one aspect. There is ZERO video data to share. It's game engine data, and much, much smaller and more efficent than video. We are still looking at ways to make enjoyment of videos extra epic.

:-)

Thanks for clearing that up.

.... but it sounded like bad news to me :(

Recon is awesome, awesome is Recon, but he is incorrect and has no access or knowledge about saved films beyond what has been released.

I have to ask, and I know you'll give a very clever evasive answer leaving us to mass conjecture but, here goes.....

Will we be able to save films in single player? Even if it's time limited?

I remember back in 1999 or 2000 (cant remember exactly) your article in pc gamer said that we'd be able to save movies in the single player campaign and it was said prior in your article with Incite magazine where you did the demonstration on their cover disc, Incite RIP btw.

OK, let me get this straight. We'll be able to share screenshot pics online like in Forza 2 and PGR3 but we won't be able to do that for videos, since in effect they aren't really videos in the first place? Right?

slo-mo audio is awesome 8)

p.s. please sell the replay technology to che :p

no game videos(.avi etc), but data files to use on the replay system. I believe that these files could be shared though xboxlive like the "gift a car" thing on forza

You will be able to share your Saved Films with anyone who has Halo 3 and a 360. At the press of a button. And they are small files, like 6-7 MB. To make hard copies, WMVs and so on, you simply need a capture card or tape deck.

Seriously? Free float camera or fixed First Person? The only reason I ask is because I remember post e3 2000 interview (the one where mclees blows himself up taking out the elites) a bungie rep said you'd be able to more or less re create that trailer using the saved films feature.

now whilst i'm not expecting that, if we can save films and change the angle, all that leaves is for me to capture and edit the footage and make a halo mini series :D
