I think it's perfectly rational. It's easy to be emotionally detached when it's just words on a computer screen. But if it were my kids being abused, I'd feel exactly as I do now. This wasn't fantasy. It wasn't roleplay. These (accused) people crossed a very friggin well known and dangerous line by sexually abusing children. Some people get emotional when they find out about it. Don't get me wrong. Give them a FAIR trial. Let them have a full defense. Let the prosecution be burdened to have to PROVE their case. But at the end of the day, when there's images, IP logs, and all that to be traced...I can be pretty sure a few of them are and will be found guilty.
To me, there's only one of two possible "solutions" for those that are:
1- Death Penalty. One appeal. Then, Sorry...Bye. We need to weed this shit out of the gene pool. One scumbag at a time.
2- Lock them up for the rest of their lives and study the ever living shit out of them. Perform tests and experiments and learn whatever you need to learn to find out how this happens to people and how to stop it. (If this isn't possible, see number 1)
They're still fairly useful alive outside of research to cure them. Human experimentation is always a possibility and saves us having to commit volunteers at the end of their rope who risk anything for a cure as we do now. Then there's their organs which are best kept in living human beings to avoid freezer burn until needed.
The amount of blood and marrow they could be harvested in the meantime may make a tangible difference and this doesn't even account for many future developments.
Still lots of possibilities before extermination.
