Skipped Persona and Nier talk.

Shane didn't really describe the battles properly in Cosmic Star Herione.

You don't need to use all your abilities before you defend and "reload" them, and some don't need to be reloaded.

Love when I forget it's an 8-4 Play week then wake up on Friday to a Mangod surprise!
Best way to start the day/workday.

Bless Mark forever for defending Circle of the Moon. It's a good game!! Better than Harmony of Dissonance imo.

Shane the best.

Agree with Sarah about the P5 characters. They don't really feel like outcasts, even though the game keeps telling you they are.

I mean, everyone treats the protagonist like a pariah. And Ryuji like a screw up and thug. And Ann like she's easy. Not sure how they don't feel like it.

I'm not sure how someone could see the P5 cast as people other than outcasts. Every single one of them is socially put aside for different reasons, including the protagonist.

Shane talking about P3 back on the 1up show and podcast got me (and probably a lot of others) to check out the series for the first time.

Very true. Preordered FES because of what he said that one episode. I had never heard of Persona before that. Not even my nerdy friends. Pretty much the first time I jumped on a game because of "podcast talk". Funny thing. I never heard about Flower until the 1UP Show. That alone convinced me to bug my college dorm mate to check it out. He bought it and then invited me to play it. Did so in one evening.

1UP was special.

I understand why they didn't want to go into the P5 localization issues too much but it's a shame because there is a lot to talk about, and not just the bizarre, invented pronunciations of Takamaki, Sakamoto and Kitagawa. Or the strange sentences that pour out of Sae's mouth. I haven't seen a game with such obvious typos since the PS1 days.

"They're holding nothing back and are serious to kill us!"

"What troublemakers bother King Kamoshida with trifle matters!"

"Kamoshida was a scum."

The last localized game I played was Nier Automata, and you didn't see that kind of sloppy editing work there. The difference in quality is really noticeable.

Just wanted to mention how much I love this podcast. Definitely among my favorites, and I really enjoy how heated the discussions can sometimes get. The strong opinions makes it very lively and energetic!

Eh, this is honestly good to hear. I found the dunking on the game via tweets to be sort of unprofessional already.

Atlus knows quite what they did since they've been getting an ear full for it from launch day. The game is out though. There's no need for 8-4 to dunk on their colleagues on their podcast. They're not going to tell them anything they don't know or didn't learn in the last two weeks.

Shane mentioning he is playing Clicker Heroes on this podcast was like a daughter bringing her boyfriend home and he blurts out that he voted Trump in the middle of dinner. Everyone with such hesitant polite skepticism. Hahahaha.

Shane is great, but seriously man, get off of those terrible, terrible click-based drugs. Gerstmann should sit him down for a heart to heart.

Also I wish JJ was present for that segment as I'm sure he would have pointed out that the clicker mechanics praised by Shane (e.g. getting a bonus for being logged out) have actually been present in MMO's for years.

Shane should play Final Taptasy, because it's amazing.

It's just your normal stage based clicker, but then you realize that there's an idle game INSIDE of the clicker. Literally, there's another clicker that only runs when you have the game open, and it's not the main clicker game. That two-layer-deep clicker gives you currency to buy unique relics that make your main clicker units stronger.

It's so good.

This podcast is really annoying.

I WANT to hear about localisation and translation.
I have enough podcasts that just generally talk about games.
I WANT to hear about specialised stuff.

I think in this case they avoided it due to not wanting to criticize work by another company in the same field as them. I'm definitely interested in hearing them talk about the process and their work though.

I'm surprised they didn't even use the word Metroidvania to describe Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap.

Zelda 2 is an okay comparison although it'd probably make people think the game is insanely hard.

The Lizardcube developers do describe Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap as the earliest type of Metroidvania game in this interview on page 24.

Just noticed Shane is on the episode this week, and Back in my Play! Is there a reason he's on this week? Has he done any other podcasts this week or recently?

Was hoping to get some New Japan Pro Wrestling talk from John after seeing his Twitter recently. Maybe a minute or two on the next show?

Mark regarding Sonic Mania: "Returning levels? How lazy can you get?"

How many new levels did Rez Infinite have? One? Must have had the laziest dev team in the world.

I don't like Sonic, but that was a stupid comment. Doubly so from someone who's actually involved in game development and knows how much hard work making games entails.

It was a conspicuous choice, no doubt. A lot of people have grown to dislike that term.

Correct me if I misremember it, it was Shane right that went batshit insane over Persona 3 on the 1up Show?

Haven't finished the podcast, not sure if it touch this
