Question? Are the 360/PC versions gonna be identical graphically?

Well, the X360 version runs with all the bells & whistles turned on. But on PC it depends on your system specs.

Are they still making Dreamcast games?

I thought the game looked pretty good when it was first shown...I guess I'm not that easily impressed anymore. :P

And here I thought I had a stalker posting pics of me here. I demand Bethesda change the name of their latest game to avoid further confusion at once!

It looks pretty good compared to current gen games, but pretty unspectacular for the X360...but perhaps we've just been spoilt by GRAW

Seriously do you know how impressive that is for the open world type game we are talking bout here? This game is MASSIVE.

Thanks for lettin us know Steve, I think I have an allergic reaction to newsletters, but I'll definetly check back on the site in a few days to look for them :).

Though I may have to lay off... Any more media and my frothing demand may reach unhealthy levels. I think I'm already starting to think off all the Mods I can't wait to make. :)

For sure. Its just hard to keep that in mind because next-gen is pretty much typified by great-looking shooters/RPGs (oh I should clarify I mean more linear RPGs) etc. that don't have as much going on.

Something like that you go hmmm, but when you actually play it/consider the update you go "wow".

looks mighty killer, even still. shame about all the shadows though. that always looked incredible in the dungeons

Well in the E3 video, the only part with the dynamic shadows was in the very beginning prison scene. They aren't anywhere else in that video and the whole thing still looked very breathtaking.

The foliage looks lovely (like always) but what's with the water? Looks too metallic... hopefully this will be fixed.

i'm sure its just the low angle that makes it look bad

Yeah, the water that's in the shadow looks fine as does 95% of that picture. It's just the water near the camera that looks all PS1 level of textures.

Still looks about a BILLION times better than Morrowind though and it looks good enough to want to play for hundreds of hours :) As long as the trees sway with the wind and the grass moves when you walk through it I'm sooo there :)

And they do, my brother. It is quite glorious looking. *sheds a tear*

That video. The prison scene. Never forget :(

I wonder how that scene looks now...

i think it was x05 (or maybe the launch event) but there is a video out there with the shadows removed

not impressed by those screens at all to be honest :\

Most aren't. The capper needs to be shot, but there is no doubt this game is absolutely gorgeous in motion. Check out any and all the videos floating out there.

i am :/

I think it looks terrific, since you've got to give the game so leeway graphically considering how big the fucking game is. Criticizing Oblivion's graphics for not looking as good as other XB360 action/FPS's is like criticizing GTA:SA's road and building textures for not looking as sharp as Max Payne 2's.

edit:

This shot fucking kills me that I don't own a 360 or a high end PC. At first glance it might look comparitively amateurish, what with the grass texture/sprites and somewhat muddy water, but you see those mountains on the left side of the picture in the background? In most any other game those mountains would be a background texture on the skybox. In Oblivion you can fucking WALK there, walk up them, and see more mountains in the distance that you can then go to.

I personally hate RPG's, and dislike action RPG's, but god damn if Morrowind wasn't a game that could appeal to people like me because of the ability to just go exploring. There's nothing like walking through a forrest and happen upon a hidden mine embedded in the mountain side. There's just no explanation how cool that is to me.

Please dont misunderstand, I'm prob one of the biggest Oblivion fans here. I'm reiterating what I've been hearing on other websites about these recent shots. Have the outside levels been downgraded? The new pics look good...they just dont look up to the quality of the earlier shots. I hope i'm wrong. A Halo 2 type downgrade would be crushing to me.

compare the newer shots with this older one.

The water looks like it belongs on the N64, but at least parts of it look amazing. This game probably will get moved off my buy list to the rent it first and see one. The new shots look much worse than the previous ones.

its a different location. seriously, go outside and look around. is it a lush forest? semi-arid chapparel? tundra? savanah? like the real world, oblivion has all sorts of different environments.

Nothing has been downgraded, only the shadows. The varying level of picture quality comes from a plethora of reasons, including positioning, the PC used, and photography skill of the capper.

Different Regions have different densities when it comes to trees and what not.

Vark, I love you and the gorgeous art you made for this game.

I would slob your knob for a copy of Oblivion, pm if interested

So what exactly is the combat gonna be like? I heard these games usually have something first person, Kings Field style... doesn't really sound too hot, please someone prove me wrong.

Blah.. ::vows to avoid the official ES forums until release::

so many people saying "omfg it looks like a xbox game nowz!?! WTF!! my PeeStoo could make graphix leik that!"

driving me nuts.. though I don't guess any controversy will be settled until the game is actually released and we all get to play it.

The official boards are a travesty to all humanity. It's no wonder why Steve and Vark love us GAFers so much. Next week, there will a ton of new media and such. Crow will be served, Elder Scroll fans will rejoice.
