If it does do well, we should hopefully see more directors take some risks in which graphic novels are given the greenlight or even better do it the way Vaughn did and raise finance.

Maybe that's what the people who want to make Preacher should be doing as their is no way that it will ever get to the big or small screen without heavy compromises on it's subject matter.

The good thing about this film is that Vaughn had no studio execs breathing down his neck telling him to change things like they did when he was shopping the script around the studios.

For instance they wanted them to change Hitgirls age from 11/12 to a 19yr old woman.

I just want to say I really want to see this, and the screenwriter, Jane Goldman, is seriously hot. Wossy is the luckiest man alive. Getting paid to review films, chat to celebrities and has a hotty nerd wife whilst being a massive nerd.

Film will be censored in germany. My country sucks. The reason for the censor: The film company wants a 16+ movie rating.

I said to a friend earlier on how Germany has a much higher standard of living than Britain.

Then you just reminded me why I was wrong XD

That is just wrong.

Like I said. Luckiest man alive. What an incredible rack (or body for that matter), and very pretty face.

Also! Seeing this tomorrow. Woo!

Nah not really. If you're a soldier and based in Germany. You've own cinemas, where you can watch all the movies uncensored.

What about the dubbing though? I heard a German friend of mine say how much he hates the dubbing. I can't blame him, imagine The Joker in TDK, dubbed :/

After Kick-Ass I've realized that directors ( and us, the audience) are far better off if they fund the films themselves and have literally nothing standing in the way of making the film they want to make.

Holy fuck. I'm just back from it and holy shit did it live up to the expectation in full with some to spare.

I'm interested in reading the comic, but I know it's Miller so I wanted to ask anyone who read the comic: Do you think it'll make my current experience with this better or worse?
I mean, the flick was fucking awesome, but the comic, since it's Miller and I have literally heard nothing about it before the film may not be as great.
I doubt I'll be able to stop myself anyway but your comments will help, surely.

EDIT: Also, how does the flick cover the comic? Is it the whole thing? One arc? Mesh?

EDIT 2: The film was unrated here, so there were little brats in the cinema too. Guess people don't give a shit here.

Is that a huge spoiler I saw in that clip?

You guys should really stop watching clips. Going in blind on the reputation of Vaughn was brilliant (although they shouldn't ruin the film since it stood up on second viewing). I guess that clip is a minor spoiler, although plot-wise it's not really spoilable, if you know what i mean.

This movie was fucking incredible.

The advertising doesn't do it justice at all. I read the comic so I knew what I was getting into, but my friends only saw the green band trailer and didn't know what to expect.
Needless to say, they were blown away.

I don't know how it's presented in the film compared to the comics, but yes, if I'd seen the equivalent of that sequence in the comic ahead of schedule, it would have been a huge spoiler. But just in reading the website for the film, it spoiled a major plot twist (the same one, actually) ahead of my reading the comic.

Avoid if you want to go in blind.

It's not a huge plot point. not by any stretch.

new clip featuring Big Daddy - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bV5mgdv1v6I&feature=player_embedded

so good. :lol is that the exact way it's cut in the film?

Yeah that's pretty much exactly how it appears in the film, except they cut a slight bit out at the end of the clip. He walks a bit more if I remember rightly after he jumps down from the ledge - so it's more of a continuous shot.

I wouldn't watch it if you haven't already, it is quite spoilerish.

Considering he only did one movie after FMJ, I'd say that isn't a bad thing.

Yeah but I didn't really like FMJ either. I think his early shit was dope though. Barry Lyndon, The Killer and Dr. Strangelove ftw.

It is a bad thing, because Eyes Wide Shut is excellent.

I meant that it wasn't bad because if you say you only like Kubrick's output up until Full Metal Jacket, that means you like almost everything he did. When most people say they lose interest in someone's work, it's usually in the middle of their career, but if you stop enjoying someone's work at the end of it, they must have done a pretty good job.

I like both Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut

It was in the comic, but I wasn't sure if it was in the movie or not.

Clip was ridiculously badass. I've bumped this up from "see in theaters" to "day one".

the reactions to this are amazing and fill my heart with joy.

The TV trailer makes this film look like some dumb goofy comedy, and would not have made me want to see it if it weren't for this thread. I love dark and transgressive humour and was pleased to see this push a few boundaries without patronising the viewer with morality, and was pleasantly surprised at how likeable all the characters were, and how decent the action was. One of the action scenes already alluded to in this thread was pure genius!

Edit: ^ lol at Daily Mail - "paedophiles are going to adore her". Bunch of pathetic cunts.

Saw this last night and enjoyed it, but not gonna lie, I was a little disappointed.
I was really looking forward to this because the trailer was fantastic and it looked like the perfect blend of Spider-Man with Sin City style comical hyper violence.

The film was even stranger than I expected :lol

Hit-Girl and Big Daddy are easily the stars of the show and saved the film from mediocrity. Every scene containing either one was absolutely fantastic. I really didn't like the Kick-Ass character much though, and I really found Red Mist incredibly annoying.
I just didn't care about the Kick-Ass character at all. Boring, typical teenage High School bullshit, without the awesome action that Spider-Man/Peter Parker can deliver. Hit-Girl put a smile on my face every time though, and Nick Cage managed to put in a decent performance for once.

If they make a sequel I hope it's more of a spin off and is just called 'Hit-Girl' (maybe set it a few years in the future when she's grown up, that way Kick-Ass may have eventually grown a pair).

Yeah that's the exact scene.

It's great, because none of their regular readers were gonna watch it anyway. The whole article was hilarious. Comments is gold.

Haven't read their review, because well, I don't read bird shit
But look at the comments:
What world is this man living in? The fact that he can bring the Jamie Bulger case into this shows how massively irresponsible his review is, where in the film is it ever suggest or implied that "underage sex is a laugh"?

No way, he actually said that? What in the fuck is going on in his mind. :lol

The reason the movie is sick, as well as thick, is that it breaks one of the last cinematic taboos by making the most violent, foul-mouthed and sexually aggressive character, Hit-Girl, an 11-year-old.

The movie's writers want us to see Hit-Girl not only as cool, but also sexy..
Is presented with calculated flippancy, as funny, admirable and (most perversely of all) sexually arousing.
what the fuck is going on in this man's head? :lol

He's clearly aroused by Hit Girl. Someone should inform the Daily Mail.

Anyway, time for me to be.. aroused.. supposedly, I'm off to go see it. Chow.

If they wanted Hit-girl to be "sexy", I can see why they wanted to bump her age to 19 or something, but she's 11/12 in this movie... so it's ok to watch her kill people...never too young to kill, but be attractive is fuck no at that age,

Dude is definitely thinking "Yeah I could fuck me that little kid!" Daily Mail perverts, pushing their paedo agenda on us normal folks...

Just seen the film after reading the book about 2 months ago, imo they changed too much and i think the book is alot better.

I imagine if i hadnt read the book i would have thought the film was brilliant like most of my friends

Yup, I watched the film and loved it then read the book. I found the book to actually be a bit lacking compared to the film. I liked how things were more 'realistic' in the book, specifically the ending, but I didn't like how under-developed cirtain characters seemed (such as Red Mist and Big Daddy, both of whom had much larger roles in the film).

Likewise I found the Big Daddy just plain made more sense in the film and found satisfaction in all the elements being tied to each other (
including mr.mob boss actually getting spooked by Kick-Ass until he realises the truth, which makes the whole torture scene, and the emotional investment of his friends in it much more relevent. Likewise, him getting stabbed by people who were commiting a 'real' crime who had personally mugged him previously
).

It's a great book, but I felt that the film did a better job of tieing the overarching concept into a coherant narrative. I also love Nick Cage.
