I just watched this for the second time this afternoon, was as good as it was the first time. God damn I love this film :D

Saw the commercial for this, and tbh, it didn't show the movie in a good light. If it wasn't for the overwhelmingly positive reactions here, I'd probably wait for it to hit blu ray or something.

As it is, day one.

Came back from this a few hours ago. Awesome movie. Hit girl steals the show, and a lot of the characters were great.

Everyone must see this. Truly awesome.

Just got back from watching this first time.
Amazzzzzzzing, seriously, you should all watch it at least once, it has everything in it.

I see Kick Ass fever has hit this thread lovely to hear more good impressions. Also loved reading that Daily Mail review this morning Christopher Tookey has some very strange sexual issues that he maybe needs to sort out. :lol

I am shocked.

Aaron Johnson, the guy who plays Dave in this film. Is British. For any american's who have seen this, does he pull off a good american accent? Because I never would have guessed. I honestly thought this guy was american.
Anyway, he's also 19 and he's engaged to a
42
year old.

He's also not very comfortable being interviewed. (watching him on wossy now).

I've also noticed this. Crazy, I figured he'd be as American as Saudi Oil. He's engaged to a 42 year old?

Oh, even better! He's expecting a baby!

Jesus christ! He's well nervous on Wossy. Check it out on BBC iplayer. Keeps scratching himself :lol

oh whoa.. that's very interesting.
He looks like JGL from that angle too. Must check Wossy.

I've known that Aaron Johnson was British for a while (and that he was expecting a child with his 42 year-old fiancée :lol) but, boy, does he mask that accent well. Few Americans seem to realise that Hugh Laurie is British, too.

That's for Pixar :(

Yeah, it's painful. They are screening The Back-up Plan and Death at a Funeral too, but no Kick-Ass :(
wtf? lol

Man. I feel for you :(

This film is the most fun i have had at the cinema in many many years. As soon as it finished i wanted to stay in the cinema and watch it again, as did all my friends. It really is a film that deserves a HOLY FUCKING SHIT reaction. I knew nothing going in and was blown away, it was like the last 20 mins of Hot Fuzz turned up even further and spread across most of a film. Just brilliant.

It kinda lulls you into a false sense of security by starting off super generic with the high school and the crush and whatever, and all that stuff is done well and is enjoyable, though the central romance was the weakest part of the film by far despite how ridiculously hot the girl was. Then it moves away from an entertaining and fun origin story, one that's maybe a cut above the usual and does it with a sense of humour, and goes into batshit insanity awesome which lampoons the entire genre while a;so being tense and actually rather touching. Every scene with Hit Girl was a classic, and the corridor scene climaxing with
"Fuck It, i'm getting the bazooka"
was pure cinematic joy. It goes in the complete opposite direction with the superhero film to the excellent The Dark Knight, but you know what, i enjoyed Kick Ass more.

edit: This sounds like i'm way overhyping it, but i wrote it as i was still buzzing from the film, and this is how excited i makes me feel.

I thought this movie did some things better than The Dark Knight. for one, the
warehouse scene
in this hit me way harder than
the warehouse scene
in TDK.

Just read that Daily Fail review... christ :lol

Saw the movie this afternoon. Loved it, really brilliant. Some great shots in it too.
And the
jetpack
:lol

Was it just me or were there lots of soundtrack moments that sounded alot like Sunshine?
No it's not just you. They used tracks straight from Sunshine 28 Days Later and For a Few Dollars More among others.

Thought i heard 28 days later in there too!

Has Sunshine music been used much in trailers? that article makes it sound like a lot of movies have used it. The only other movie i can think of is Inception..

The movie's writers want us to see Hit-Girl not only as cool, but also sexy, like an even younger version of the baby- faced Oriental assassin in Tarantino's Kill Bill 1. Paedophiles are going to adore her.

One of the film's creepiest aspects is that she's made to look as seductive as possible - much more so than in the Mark Millar and John Romita Jr comic book on which this is based. She's fetishised in precisely the same way as Angelina Jolie in the Lara Croft movies, and Halle Berry in Catwoman.

As if that isn't exploitative enough, she's also shown in a classic schoolgirl pose, in a short plaid-skirt with her hair in bunches, but carrying a big gun.

This guy honestly needs to take a seat over there. Seriously - if I was his editor I would ask him to consider counseling. The entire efficacy of her character relies on her very conventional little-girlness. The costume designers go out of their way to do the OPPOSITE of what he;s implying. Her mask fits badly, her clothes are too wrinkled, etc, etc.

I'm not naive - what he's talking about happens in The Professional, deliberately, to elicit discomfort, not eroticism. But in this case, he's projecting something deep seated, gross and WILDLY off the mark.

Also, Jane Goldman is a ripoff of Gary Whitta:

Career

Goldman worked as a staff writer on the multi-format computer games magazine Zero, circa 1990-1992.

(She's actually super nice and a hardcore gamer. Or was.)

Went to see the film last night. In a word: awesome!

Great score too. Loved the use of Surface of the Sun :D

A variation (sounds like a cross between Sunshine and 28 Days Later) was also used in the remake of "The Last House on the Left".

The piece in Kick Ass also sounds slightly different too.

Maybe I'm just being prudish, but is anyone else surprised that this is rated as just a "15" in the UK?

I was surprised about that as well.

Still, apparently the film got a "PG" rating (or equivalent) in France, which leaves me really puzzled.

So guys, could someone tell me why it wasn't released simultaneously? Budget reasons? I didn't really follow this film until all the positive impressions got to me, I have no idea why they're forcing Americans to wait until the 16th.

I could be wrong but I think it just took them longer to secure an American distributor.
