A NeoGAF iPhone Web App

Anyone have issues making posts on the Galaxy SII? When ever I try to make a post, it only shows a white screen so I can't see what I am typing and when I swipe up to see m post or hit reply it will only stay there for a second and then will go down to the bottom again.

Apologies if this has been asked, but is there a way to go to the first unread message from my subscribed threads? Clicking the title takes me to the first page, and the arrow to the last page.

Thanks.

I've been asking for this too. Maybe it's too difficult to implement.

It's not simple with the current way things work. For one, you've got to realize that it requires the browser to scroll to a specific part of the page. However, the moment images and other things load above the current post things get out of whack and you're no longer looking at the right post. Secondly, vBulletin does this weird redirect thing in order to find the right post. I have an idea on how to work around this but it's going to have to wait until I have time to write the next version.

The android posting bug is super annoying. Any chance of a fix?
I've changed the way the post screen works. It may help but it might also hurt some people when they try to scroll the textarea box. People on older iOS devices for example may have trouble scrolling the area you type the message. We'll see.

I can't believe I've never seen this thread. Will download and use on my iPod Touch 4. It's only got WiFi but this app will prove useful when I am too lazy to walk to the computer to check GAF. This could also prove disastrous as I will probably end up spending even more time in the day on GAF.

It's working for me. Make sure the website preference, in IE Settings, is for the mobile version not the desktop version.

Ah! Thanks man

Got a peculiar display bug. This persists with cleared Safari browser cache as well. iPhone 4S on 5.0.1.

On first load, any posts I seem to have quoted, their poster has my avatar instead of their own. This goes away if I view their profile and then refresh the thread/post again but returns once the cache is cleared.

Here's a picture example:

Yeah, so browing through seconds apps + fullscreen on android doesn't let me scroll the input field when replying. =/

I don't like to use the browser without fullscreen.

Any chance we can get Kindle Fire support? It says "only mobile devices are allowed".
It works for me on my iPad so I am guessing it will work on the Fire as well.. I know that Silk is a new browser so maybe it's a toggle or something to recognize it as a mobile browser? (I'm surely oversimplifying things)

Yeah, I would imagine Silk has its own user agent string and will need to be added in there - hopefully that's all that's needed anyway.

It's easy to change the user agent the Opera Mobile app, if you're able to download it from the Amazon app store. Been loving the app on my Touchpad with CM7 alpha.

I wonder if Chklor will have a contingency plan in place once the new GAF update fucks up his coding?
Was thinking about this too. Would be great if this site is still functional post update and later adds support for the new features. I haven't browsed on the regular GAF site in ages, but some of those features are nice.

I need the user-agent string.

The web app will be down when the upgrade is happening. It will be take a little longer after NeoGAF.com is back up before it works again but I don't expect it to be to take very long. I'll post a warning until it's ready.

Also, "chklor" is the worst spelling of my username I've ever seen.

Goes hand in hand with the worst spelt username on GAF I've ever seen.

^For some reason I always think 'holla!' when I try to pronounce/read your name.

PS. This web app is great on iPhones, but not so much on iPads imo. You think there could be an iPad dedicated version? I can already imagine the subscriptions sidebar slide out, other boards drop down, etc.

Is there any way for you to change "threads you have subscribed to" to "threads to which you have subscribed?"

Just something that irks me a little...

Honestly Sentry, I don't think iPads really need this. This exists to make NeoGAF usable on small screens but the iPad screen is plenty big.

Ending a sentence with a preposition is something up with which I will not put.

It may not be required, but it's still better than the main site.

The hit targets for pages in threads are super small on gaf and you need to zoom in a lot to hit them. And unlike narrow column text fields on other sites, you can't just easily double tap on the page numbers to zoom into them. you gotta use pinch to zoom. it becomes a bit of a hassle. same deal with the reply/quote buttons. they're very small

And the text in posts looks small on the screen and typically requires me to constantly zoom in and out to read longer passages.

plus all the other nice things the webapp adds like user highlighting and youtube embeds aren't available on the iPad's main browser since there's no extension support like with desktop browsers.

your formatting still works and looks better on the iPad screen than the main site. it's meant for fingers and that plays well on the iPad, despite your emphasis on the 3.5" screen.

His goal is to make it easier to read on phones not to necessarily have everyone use it all the time because neogaf then isn't getting ad impressions from us. I always stick with his version on my iPad though fwiw.

Hey ckohler any chance on getting the "goto first unread" feature in the web app with the changes to that feature that's going in with the site?

that’s a fine goal but I still maintain that Gaf is not finger friendly at all. that wasn’t an issue for years and years but a lot of the existing hit targets could be modified and enlarged to make it easier to use on the ipad and whatever other future tablets have success.
