I actually quite like that layout just in my normal browser!
A perfect example of why KISS works from the monster argument that came up in that thread about a redesigned GAF. Graphics don't need to be crazy to make it look good or work better.

This would be the best thing ever on my phone (HTC Titan/Verizon XV6800) if there were a better web browser on WinMo.

This makes browsing GAF easier with the Pocket Internet Explorer on my phone...but it would be gold with a real browser like on the iPhone...

Awesome work, op!

this is wonderful!

Some suggestions:

-link at the end of each page to reply via safari
-some way to access the last page of threads from the forum page
-maybe make the avatars bigger in the grey name bars? Or make those bars a bit smaller?

You rock!

This, so I dont have to switch back and forth. Great work, keep it up :D
Tell ya the truth, just make a tap of the arrow at the end of the threads on the main page take you to the last page of that thread, and a safari reply link at the bottom of every page and this thing is perfect.

Love the way it handles images and the ease of going straight to the bottom by tapping the title. Handled beautifully.

Agreed. The less shit there is on screen usually the better something looks.

I tried this on my N95 browser and it didn't look too hot. Normal GAF looks fine in that though so it's no problem.

Love the app. I love how fast the threads show up too. I just want to chime in like others have said, that it would be nice to get to the last page of the thread fom the thread listing rather than having to go to the thread and then click on last page. Great work.

Just to be clear, it's not that simple. You have to be logged in before you can post. That means I have to rewrite parts to support passing session variables around, storing your login info, tracking your login status as you move around, etc. I plan to attempt this, though. Just don't hold your breath because it could take a while to get right.

I was going to make it a setting you could set to default to first page/last page but I'll try implementing mattiewheels' idea of making the arrows do this. It makes more sense.

Making the avatar bigger makes the pages longer to scroll through. Making the grey area smaller means making the avatars too small. I arrived at the current size after several attempts.

Just wanted to say this is amazing, I'll be using this for sure when I browse from my iPhone. No more constant zooming, and now I'm able to view spoilers too -- very nice job!

All I did was generate a reply-to URL and have them leave my web-app for the actual NeoGaf reply page. Cut the whole cookie business out :)

I'm using this on my q9c and it's pretty nice. If it wasn't for Opera Mini this would be the only way to view NeoGAF, since it is completely broken on PIE.

I think a setting is the wrong way to go. I think you need some way that the user can select which way because if they are new to the thread, they probably want to start from the beginning. But if they are following a thread they of course want to jump to the end so having a default setting will hinder the person in some way at all times.

We just need a wireless version natively! Rivals.com wireless = heaven. I've been trying to sell the admins on it forever without any luck..

Been thinking if those designs you made would ever surface into a web app .. will use daily .. your the man (or woman) .. BELIEVE and thanks

i love the 'tap to unspoil' thing.

and when i said there should be a reply link at the bottom of every page, i figured that would just open another safari window and you wouldn't have to worry about logging in on your side since the site itself remembers you. and if it doesn't, just log in on the site's side i guess.

This is really awesome. At first I wasn't interested because you couldn't reply. But then I realised I hardly ever post here anyway. But I do a lot of reading. The advantages of reading GAF with this app instead of just through Safari are huge.

Thanks.

That is actually a pretty good idea.

Very nice. Works great on my MotoQ. The iPhone-specific buttons are sort of invisible, but I can tell where they are with IE's outlining.

You should get with the vBulletin guys. They could use something like this built-in to their product.

looking through the 'monthly pick-up' threads is a joy with this app, it works flawlessly (except for ani-gifs, but i see that's not the case with the avatars).

maybe the go-to buttons at the bottom of each page could be made smaller, especially if a 'post' button is added in the future? again, fabulous work ckohler

Update:

I've just rolled out a new version that adds the following features:

- Tap the ">" arrow on the thread list to skip to the last page of a thread
- Reduced the height of the buttons at the bottom of threads
- Added a Reply button (opens new window to NeoGAF.com)
- Tap the quote icons above any post to reply and quote that post
- Added the name of authors to quotes

Fantastic.

I actually didn't realise that this was a web app. Saw the word iPhone app in the title and ignored it.

It works quite well on my phone. Now THIS is what I'd imagined a NeoGAF mobile portal to look like. Well done.

If some GAF admin wants to host the final version on the server and have it serve as a mobile portal for GAF, I know I would greatly appreciate.

Has anyone tried this on a PSP?

wow, this is great! If you ever decide to make a native app, hit me up with a PM for a donation towards the $100 buy in fee.

FUCKING EPIC. Been waiting for a neogaf web app for a while. The App store app would be incredible if you're going to do the things you talked about in the iphone thread. Definately going to be my most used app.

Great update. the quick link to the most recent page was something i was going to ask for. very handy.

One more request, if it's not too much trouble: Is it possible to show the total number of pages in a thread from the main thread list view? The number doesn't need to be a link, I'd just like to know which new threads have been getting lots of recent replies before clicking on them.

Would you like some money for server costs or something? We should get you some money. I think I have 5 dollars or something.

wow dude

You really outdid yourself with the update. Let me send you something through paypal too.

The quote tap on the user bar, that's awesome.
True, knowing how large a thread is from the main menu would be really nice, but not sure if it's that neccesary.

Hate to ask for more after you've done so much, but is it possible to list which page you're on out of the total number of pages at the bottom too somewhere? I know it's at the top but when you're at the bottom and you have the jump to a page, that info would be handy rather than having to jump back to the top.

I'd donate/buy a real NeoGAF iPhone app in a second.

I know GAF works as well as itcould in the browser on the iPhone but I really think betting on the iPhone platform would be a good step for Evilore and getting this dude to create a official app and having his XML conversion also rest on the GAF server.

This iPhone portal is excellent and I will be using it a tonne to browse this crack site on the move but an app would allow a lot more but also expose NeoGAF as the premier gaming forum on the iTunes App store.

I free add supported version / paid none add version would also be nice for the people who want choice and would make up for teh lack of ad block on the iPhone :D

ckohler has done a great great job with this however and his updates also makes me really happy and curious to see whats to come.

I would love the ability to be singed in and post straight from the app (wont be happening in this seperate xml version)

Upload images (and host on some free hosting sevice) from the phone autmatically.

Like some more screen size tinkering for posts and tweaked a little more inline with how people use GAF (maybe a setting for clicking on the post would default to last post in the thread and the arrow goes to the top)

Setting to minimise poster bar a little if avatar is turned off?
