Are you sure you're not just fat fingering and missing the button? You do know that if you tap to the left if the button and miss it you will scroll to the bottom?

I have NEVER has this happen when I press the menu button. I am using Safari on an iPhone 4.

When it happens I make sure I'm not fat fingering when re-producing it (even long-pressed to see the boundary zone for the button and it has still triggered it), happens at random on 5.1 on my 4S and iPad in portrait mode (can't recall it ever triggering in landscape).

I'm getting this bug again as well. It seemed like it was fixed before the latest update to the mockup.

A couple of bugs:
All the threads in the search results display as if they have 1 page, even when they have multiple pages.
If the last reply to a thread is by someone on your ignore list, the refresh button is not there, and is instead replaced by a greyed-out next button.

Also, if it's possible, could you fix the ignored posts so you can read them? At the moment it just displays a blank post. I know ignored posts didn't work properly in the previous version but it at least showed the name of the poster.

Just wanted to mention that the menu scroll bug still happens, seemingly at random, on both iPhone and iPad (Safari).

I had this bug happen to me while reading this exact page on an iPhone 4 (using safari).

Can we get rid of the text labels?
That'd be overkill imo. Plus it just wouldn't work, esp. due to double-communities now.

I'm running the same thing, and it's never happened to me. Maybe it's an internet connection thing? Or pressing it at a certain stage in the loading, or after a certain idle time? I don't know, but I can't duplicate it.

Fixes
  • Re-fixed Menu button causing scrolling (HOPEFULLY!)
  • Back button in threads inside new community forums now work correctly
  • Search results now correctly highlight search terms in threads
  • Removed unnecessary text from shortcut buttons in menu
  • Fixed shortcut button size/floating/alignment issue
  • Menu button should have subtle, alternate look when active

I believe I found the issue with the menu button causing scrolling. It "should" be fixed now.

You have a couple "overflow: auto;" declarations that would be causing the problem. If you change it to 'hidden' it removes the scrollbars and super small screens and would prevent the scrolling mentioned by folks.

EDIT: And I should check this again the new updates.

I've had that happen as well but only after I've replied to a thread and am the last post. The page jumps/sticks to that post when pressing the refresh button while regular browser refresh doesn't. I just assumed it refreshed the URL which at that point had the /showthread.php?p=36498098#post36498098 in it compared to just the thread ID.

Edit: I'm sorry but just had the button scroll bug right after posting this. Landscape on iPad. This was after pressing the iOS header to jump to the top, not using the bottom header to do the same. Maybe the app doesn't fully recognise that you're already at the top after using iOS' built in jump to top feature?

Edit2: new tab, I just reproduced it by jumping to the top with via iOS then pressing the menu button > shot me back down. Didn't reproduce it when I used the bottom header to jump up. Done this several times now in new tabs.

Should note this happened after a clear cache.

It would be nice if the community forum buttons could somehow be given a 'nested' look, as on GAF Prime, but maybe it's already complicated enough without that just getting the buttons to reflow nicely for different screen sizes.

Came in to post this. Even on the main screen could they appear smaller than the primary forums?

Tunesmith, refresh you bowser a couple of times (to get the revised js) and try it now. I'm just going to brute force the browser to scroll to the top any time that button is pressed.

Been tapping around and it hasn't happened yet, let's see if I can coax it now after this post.
Edit: so far so good. :) /fingers crossed

Great feedback! All three issues are now fixed. Thanks.

Hmm, what would be a clever icon for Gaming Community and OT Community? I'm sure we can think of a clever and distinctive icon for each rather than use the same one.

ot community icon should just be you standard group of people icon

gaming should be the same but the people are flinging shit at each other

this made my morning.

So ckohler, this is getting pretty close to being complete, right? All that's "missing" is a dark theme, but other than that, is there really anything that still needs to be done? (other than ads of course)

Gaming community should have 3 space invaders, so then the off topic community could use the 3 people without the images being copies.

Not a fan of the inverted toolbar section when the options menu is expanded. Looks very off. Why not just invert the menu button itself rather than the background bar?

I dunno if this is a bug or not. But if you are not logged in there will be an ad after every post. It looks a little jarring.

Oops. That should be fixed now. I thought I was removing some debugging code when really it was controlling the way the thread ad is displayed to non-logged in users.

All that is left is to add the "Dark Theme". I will work on this after lunch.

Then, assuming Evilore approves, we can start collaborating on the move to the NeoGAF.com server.

Any chance of being able to use this on our non-mobile devices now? Considering there are ads being displayed.

Boo. I like using the mobile view when having my desktop browser in a tiny window. On the other hand, I prefer the full site on my iPad.

You can probably faux your user agent with a browser extension to get the mobile version for that purpose if needed.

I know this is kind of the exact opposite thread to announce this, but it seems that regular gaf view on the iPad is now rendering default to fit the iPad screen. Glory be! I was getting a little annoyed at the 100% view cutting off to the right in portrait.

And before any one tells me that I should use the webapp, I do use it for iPhone, but I prefer standard gaf on the iPad.

the next gaf skin needs to use responsive css so we don't have this problem.
There is a lot more to this web app than just altered CSS. It outputs reduced HTML/JS to speed up loading, has options to disable specific image types, and a few other features not built in to Prime.

Mockup Update

New Feature:
  • Dark Theme
To Do:
  • Nothing?!

Alright, all you vampires can try out your Dark theme. I still say it looks like butt in black, though. :) Definately clear your cache time time.

Assuming Evilore is ready and happy and you guys are okay with the Dark theme, I think we can begin preparations to move this baby onto the real servers. My expectations are that this move will involve some further bugfixes but hopefully only minor ones.

Dark theme!!! Woooooo..... Oh.

Yeah, the dark really clashes with blue banners. Ah well, may use it given my Samoled HD screen,
it at the moment default theme for me.

Time for this baby to ascend to Mobile GAF Prime status!

Is there any reason the menu in the upper right corner doesn't show up on the Preferences page? It appears on every other page but that one.

That is my only (minor) complaint.

When you click on the arrow on a thread, it takes you to the last page on the original second apps. The mockup leads me to the page before the last, or in large threads, somewhere like 15 pages back. Ex. For this thread viewing from community section and clicking the arrow leads me to page 74, not the last page 75. HTC incredible 2.3 is my phone.
Edit: cleared cache and it doesn't do it anymore, lol ignore this post

I preferred the visual clarity of the old version (with iPhone effects turned off), but from a functional perspective, this is great. It's also faster than a lot of native apps. Thanks so much, ckohler.

dark theme is fucking amazing. I can't wait to see how it looks on the iPad when I get home. Also, I prefer the web app to the original site on my iPad any day.

Edit: thank you for fixing my one and only problem with the dark theme. Spoilers are highlighted in grey. It was always difficult to find black spoiler text in the old dark theme.

The only thing that I would change about the dark theme is the highlight color for my posts. It should be a light gray, I think. Right now it is barely different from the color of everyone else's posts.

But yeah, this seems ready for prime time. Can't wait for it to be moved to the GAF servers and made "official."

Seems fine, if you're satisfied it's probably ready. Will need you in IRC for the implementation step.
