A NeoGAF iPhone Web App

I don't see an arrow anywhere on the page. Ydahs, nailed it actually. Clicking the name of the thread brings me straight to the end of the page.

Will the mockup be rolled as the main soon?
The process will begin tonight. No idea how long it will take.

The old version had a whitelist of mobile browser user agents that were given access to the formatted pages. The main reason for those restrictions—that it was an unofficial web app taking ad revenue from the main site—no longer applies. I can't think of a reason to bother offering the web app to just "mobile" and "tablet" devices (besides the possibility that the mobile ads bring in significantly less revenue than the desktop ads).
Correct. The mockup was a total rewrite, which meant using a fresh mobile sniffing library. On the old version I had added several user-agents for compatibility with devices not already supported by the library. There were bound to be some devices that needed to be added back into the mockup.

Can anyone confirm this?
would it be possible to fix this or is this a problem on the developers end?
Does it also do this in Safari? It might be related to your account and not that browser. That sounds like the kind of bug that would be affecting everyone so since it's only you, I'm inclined to think the problem is probably unique to you.

I've been playing around with the mockup. Only thing I really miss is the "end" arrow that would bring you down to the last post. Other than that, it's fantastic. Biggest pet peeve before is I was unable to post text properly using landscape mode on my Android phone.
If you're referring to that little white down arrow in the grey area of the old version, then just tap the blue header. It does the same thing. On a side note, I always found it funny that people seemed to think they needed to click that arrow specifically to do jump down when in fact you could click anywhere on that grey bar. Also, before someone asks, I'm going to leave the arrow off the design and let people discover that feature. The header is too busy to add another icon and it would cut the already cut-off thread titles.

How will this work? You'll post the new URL in here?
You guys will continue to use the mockup/old version here until a copy is installed and working on Neogaf.com. Then, secondapps.com will be replaced with an 'Update your bookmarks" warning pointing to whatever the official address is. I'm not sure if they plan on having a unique subdomain, a sub-directory or what for the web app on neogaf.com. I'll find out tonight.

Excellent. Thanks as always!

Found a bug perhaps:

In the "Is my avatar offensive thread" I tapped one of the trace-back links to a quote from CHEEZMO which loaded the page again (same page, 100ppp), and put me on CHEEZMOs post as expected.

What was weird is that when I shot up to the top of the page by tapping the time (iOS feature) then tapped the title of the thread to shoot down to the bottom (app feature) and tapped refresh, the entire page reloaded again and the app put me back on CHEEZMOs post.

Couldn't replicate it in another thread, but went back and could do it again with that CHEEZMO post.

Figured I'd mention it.
This behavior is expected because the URL you requested includes the in page anchor telling your browser to scroll down to that specific post (#post123456 or whatever). By refreshing that URL again, it's going to scroll down again.

It doesn't happen in Safari, no. Dolphin worked fine at the beginning, but once of the recent mockup updates broke the compatibility.

I don't think that's too wise tbh. It's obvious that the mistake keeps being made, and the same question keeps being asked. Pretty sure if this is official, all types of users (laymen or not) will not know. There is definitely enough space to include it in the forum displays, next to the menu button. It wouldn't cut off any text since there's enough space there for a small arrow (as i've shown). Now not including it in the thread view, I agree, since it would cut off too much of the already-short thread title space. However, with the feature being learned from an arrow on the board view, people will understand it works in-thread as well.

I guess the ideal behavior would be that a refresh would toss away the post anchor and leave me at the bottom of the thread and fill in the new stuff underneath without any jumping around.

Minor gripe, not at all game-breaking. Thanks for the explanation.

EDIT:
I'm not sure how I feel about it appearing in some places and not others. :/ Wouldn't that just confuse people further to think the feature isn't there inside threads?

Secondly, when there WAS an arrow in the old version people were still asking me to add such a feature. The arrow alone wasn't even enough for them to realize the feature was there. It's not a required feature to begin with. It's a convenience and I don't think cluttering up the already cramp header is worth it to "maybe" let people know about a convenience.

No prob. A web site can't change the behavior of a browsers refresh button.

So this is going live tonight? Great!
Thanks for all the hard work ckohler.
I doubt it's going live tonight. It might but I doubt it. There would probably need to be testing and stuff. It might not even run correctly when ported onto their server.

On the Private Messages page if you go to your Sent Items, in the subtitle it says "From: (recipient)" instead of "To: (recipient)".

I noticed this, by the way, because I've sent you a PM, ckohler.

I don't think so, since to get to that thread view, they would have to have interacted with a board/forum view first (to arrive there), and have seen that UI element. Just better than not having it at all, imo.

And yeah, some might still not get it, but I would rather most realize that the feature exists (since it really has become vital, at this point) than many continue to ask where it 'went', etc.

Of course personally, it's not a big deal either way since I know of its existence and don't mind answering the same question over and over, but I wouldn't mind it being in there if possible.

PS. I hope you don't feel a rush to get this out of the door. As long as the mockup site sticks around, you and the mods should just test it to completion so it can go public without a hitch. Either way I can't wait, but there's no rush in getting it working in perfect sync with the official GAF. I just appreciate all the effort from you as well as the mods, especially from your end in terms of appreciation of feedback and quick integration of common consensus. OT but i'm waiting to see what your new [pic] tag will be. :p

Is it too late to pitch ideas? How hard is it to add "thread I recently replied" somewhere? It's just a shortcut for lazy people (e.g., me) who don't want to sub the thread (too much work!) but still would like to revisit the threads.

And thanks for all the hard work ckohler! The dark theme is slick.

? You automatically subscribe to threads that you've replied to...

OK. You sound like it's a feature of the forum already. (Or is it a ... Neogaf Gold thing?)

Play along with the original idea: "subscribed" is permanent until you unsub. "Replied" will be forgotten after 5 days.

from now on every thread you post in will be in your subscriptions. here -> http://www.neogaf.com/forum/subscription.php

Feedback regarding the dark theme:

On any thread list page (OT, Subscribed, Gaming, etc.) the bold thread titles are harder to read than non-bold, white text (e.g. 2 pages - 80 replies).

Bold looks good when it's color on white, but not as good when it's white on color, imo.

The same thing goes for the user names when inside a thread. The bold tends to "blend" the letters together and become overwhelming, distracting from the post text. It might be worth experimenting with removing all bold text.

Maybe someone with more web design skill can speak more coherently on it.

Just posted one more minor update that incorporates the sub-forum indicator on the homepage and tweaked some of the Dark theme colors based on feedback from Dooplis/others.

Of course personally, it's not a big deal either way since I know of its existence and don't mind answering the same question over and over, but I wouldn't mind it being in there if possible.
I'm going to leave it off for bow and see what (if anything) happens.

Wow, can't believe I'm saying this since I've never liked it for any other website/reading app/etc but I am now a believer: DARK THEME rocks!
My strained eyes say THANK YOU! Also my iPad's battery supposedely should benefit from DT as well, cool :)

Bravo, sir

EDIT: HOLY SHIIIIIIT!! You've silently implemented my request to indepentently be able to turn off .GIF images while having anything else on PHOTO ON!
So now you can finally browse without sucking precious 3G datacap or bringing you tablet/phone to its knees/crashing 'cause of gifs galore. This was my most wanted feature and it seemed unlikely to be implemented ("probably too late" was the consensus or "you can do that in some Android devices already") since you never aknowledged my requests nor addressed 'em with a reply, well now I'm super glad I kept bringing it up and you going ninja-mode on me makes it even more of a sweeet surprise.
:BOWS:

Tried the dark theme since people in this thread keep raving about it. Don't like it. My eyes felt like they've been pummeled to death after a minute of use. That's par for the course when reading on a black background though. Only kind of dark theme I can handle is something like Giant Bomb where the text lays on some kind of grey background.

I've been using mockup without a login for a few weeks now but kept going back to the old one. Been using it today and have a possible suggestion. When I'm at the home screen of a forum and I tap the icon in the top right corner (4 squares) the menu should be switched. Gaming and gaming community should be paired and same with off topic.

Shouldn't it be main forum || sub forum || main forum || sub forum?

Loving the new look of the front page, great idea shifting the community forums over a bit in the forum listing.

It is, it goes left to right not top to bottom. The buttons are just large enough to fit that way on a phone screen, it's more apparent on a tablet.

To clarify, it won't be official tonight. It'll probably take a few days to make the move and make adjustments to the code.

Is there a new URL or anything? Sorry for asking but I haven't been following this thread in ages and the OP doesn't look updated at all.

Is it a silent update if he told us he had done it? lol.

I think you need a tag update, given the official GAF mobile interface will soon support this, it's kinda obsolete.

(though it is a testament to how far we've come)
That was back in the day where flash integration was literal <sdfgsfg/> mumbo jumbo rather than clicking on a picture to play the video. 2007! Come a long way. :lol

In most files systems you can open a tree branch of folds and folders and you can close them with a click. I think it would be nice if you could tap the tree branch to close and open it.
