A new Nintendo strategy?

I was speaking with a friend of mine, who had the Wii, and she asked me what game she should get for it since she's already bored of the one she has. I asked her how long she had it. She said a week.

It brought me back to my college roommate, who also had a Wii, and had four or five Wii games that I've seen him play, for like, 2-3 times, before he goes out and buys another one.

I'm wondering, anybody else think that perhaps the reason why some of the Wii games right now, are mostly ports and mini-game collection, is because they want the players to get bored of it quickly and go out and buy another one?

Might be just anecdotal, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Zelda makes your anecdote somewhat worthless. But really, if that was Nintendo's idea, eventually people would get bored of the console, not just the games. So I think not.

it certainly works for the movie industry to have a movie just be 2 hours long and once you're done watching it, you go get another one.

not that big of a difference from what you're seeing personally, imo. games are just more expensive.

My roommate in college had an XBOX, and he'd buy games for it and play them 2-3 times before going out and buying another one. He had about a million games, and most of them were crap like Wreckless and New Legends.

That applies for all consoles, not the Wii only.
I know quite a few people, that finished "big games" like Darkness, Gears of War, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, etc..in less than 2 days..

So if it's a "new strategy" it's one across all the main consoles, not just Nintendo ones.

I played Elebits for 5 minutes.
I played Far Cry for 30 minutes then got nauseous. (I really tried to play longer but my inner ear wont let me)

But Trauma Center, Zelda, Ultimate Alliance, Mario Strikers and RE4 have had considerable amounts of play time.

Conspiracy me thinks. Part of a much larger goal of separating people from their money in new and interesting ways.

Uh, no, there's no way that could be a deliberate strategy.

For what it's worth I've seen non-hardcore gamers do this with pretty much every console. They buy the most worthless, garbage games and then hardly ever play them, but they keep buying bullshit. It's infuriating. I can't even imagine going to GameStop and spending money on the worthless crap some people buy. Hardcore gamers definitely have their own buying practices that are less than great sometimes, but man.
