A picture of a controller device made for iPhone by Logitech that is not official or

There are several more iOS-controllers flying around right now is what I hear from my sources. So I'd guess there will be different options/different price points. I can't get too specific though, NDAs and such.

You guys do know that iOS7 added gamepad api right? And there are three different 'valid' configs.

wow i didn't know about this! very cool. i hope most games support it. i still have a vita and 3ds, but this would be cool. i have a whole collection of square games on my phone that i would love to play with an actual d-pad.

You didn't know about this because it's under NDA. Well, thank you internet :)
Let's see what the future brings, but I can promise you that there's one big game developer who's currently working on a neat sounding game for this controller setup.

Jesus that looks bad.

When will devs realize shoehorning traditional controls into iOS games always ends horribly. Third party accessories don't help the problem at all.

So shoehorning doesn't work because no buttons.

But adding buttons doesn't help because...?

So shoehorning traditional controls into my iOS copies of GTA3 and GTA VC will always end horribly?

(In this case without sticks it would be horrible though.)

Is that by Apple?

EDIT: By Logitech. Meh.

What's wrong with Logitech? They make some pretty great products with near excellent build quality. I don't own an iPhone but I hope this lives up.

Edit: Nevermind... that looks like horse shit. And also, who the hell would attempt to use the camera with it?

So is there some kinda policy that would not allow a traditional dpad(like nintendo dpad I guess) or a split dpad on controllers of this kind? i just see so..so many terrible dpads on controllers for ios/android. im really not a fan of the disk thing.

Probably not. Dreamcast had a + pad and it wasn't a Nintendo system.

Why do they refuse to cover the home and speaker button, and just build that functionality into the controller?

Because no one wants to carry a controller shell wherever they go, especially if they aren't a big gamer. If they are a big gamer and play games on the go, they will likely have a 3DS lying around which would take just as much room as an Apple controller would and have more meaty experiences. The popularity of the iPhone as a gaming platform comes from the fact that it is a platform that people have as their cellphone which just happens to play video games that can be bought at cheap prices.
