A Plague Tale: Requiem - 60 FPS Patch for PS5|SX and More PC Options Now Live

adamsapple

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

For those unaware, the game also has a 'hidden' 40hz option, it's the default way the game runs if you're on a 120hz display and have the console set as such.

So I'm trying it now on series x, game is much softer obviously (1080p or less?) But the biggest difference is in npcs animation quality, all of them animate below native fewmarate (half or even less). They had to save a lot CPU performance. But game is indeed 60 fps.

Ouff, that's one of the most jarring things I can think of (skipped Witcher 3 on PS4 entirely due to it).
I honestly take 30fps rather than that in a game like this.

It runs the game.

It also has the same 40hz mode PS5||SX had.

I forgot that this was 30fps at launch. Need to finish the first game still.

Yep, but if you had a 120hz display, you can get a very good 40hz.

Based on the above comments, looks like you lose IQ and animation frame rate for this performance mode. I think I'm gonna stick with the 40hz here.

Well, at least they are doing something good.

Not gonna lie though, when I see things like these, they trigger me. Just more fuel into the fire of devs releasing incomplete games at full price, now we are putting in stuff that should be part of the game as `features` later. Hey look, improved performance is a feature now.

Triggered but at the same time vindicated for typically never buying a game within the first 6-12 months of its release. Can't trust these dev mfs.

My GOTY from last year.

If it took them 6 months for a 60FPS patch, it will take Redfall 6 years.

Nice.
Patience pays off. I had refused to play this at 30 or even 40 fps. Downloading from Gamepass right now.

Tried it on PS5, didnt notice half rate animations.
Def higher than 1080p, doesnt have the ultra soft effect like most games in 1080 look (on 77" OLED)

If I had to guess something like 1440p, the compromise is in some of the effects like DOF etc, would be a nice way to play it TBH.

Thanks dev team. This would have been a day 1 if they had this from the start, but they've got my money now.

Edit: It's currently $38.99 on PSN until 5/25

Not a valid comparison at all, Plague Tale devs never promised a 60 FPS patch at launch. For RF, The Coalition are helping Arkane for the performance patches, it should be out much sooner. (hopefully).

Ok that's good. If this is the case I may buy it down the road.

Game is 1440p in 30/40FPS mode so it can't be that, it's as soft as many other 1080p games to me (but I could be wrong).

I was talking about animations of NPCs in the market area (2 chapter), it's very obvious there but I don't know how enemies behave (main characters have correct animations framerate).

Yeah, if they managed to get double the performance at the same resolution, that's nothing short of a performance miracle lol.

I reckon its reconstructing from a lower one, reconstruction's gotten pretty good these days so it's easy to mistake it for native.

But...it was "free" on Gamepass !

Imagine waiting 7 months and playing a game at a blurry ass, sub-1080p resolution in 2023 just for a measly 60fps patch. Lmao.

Hey dude, just checked it again on PS5, same area, definitely no half rate animations in the market area, could be a platform specific thing.

I had no idea the original was 1440, but once you turn the CA off in the menu, its a very good 1080p if it is, probably the best ive seen.

It's like every thread is a series S, Phil or Redfall thread.

Rent free?

I don't get how insecure some fans must be to have to constantly bring this stuff up...Holy poop. Lmao.

Those sound like horrific trade offs. In a game like this that isn't twitch at all, I'd still go with the 30fps.

At least the option is there for those that want it though.

B..but neogaf told me that it is impossible to have 60fps in next gen only games. what happened?
They implemented this framerate enhancement feature.

I don't have access to PS5 version to check it. We will have to wait for DF or something to check the patch.

On the side note, game has horrible HDR implementation, looks much better in SDR (raised blacks and washed out image in HDR), they still didn't fix it.

What modes were there at launch? I remember playing in performance or something and it seemed fine but if I turned on the purdy mode the frame rate felt like ass on Series X. Was it a RT mode? I forget.

Great to know, I'll try to find time to play this weekend. Not sure how possible that will be with TOTK, Diablo 4 Beta and Jedi Survivor.

Perfect timing. I'm on chapter 3 and I was getting a bit annoyed with the default mode (40FPS for 120hz TV with VRR) as it was very stuttery. I don't mind the lower IQ, just want for that stutter to go away.

I was currently playing that game, so I will give it a try at 60 fps. I'm curious to see what compromises the developers made in order to hit 60 fps.

Same here, and same chapter. And yes, the 40 fps mode is quite stuterry and doesn't feel good at all, so I'm more than willing to take a hit to resolution if I can play it at 60 fps.

I invite those who said 30 FPS will become the new norm to comment on this. Now would be a really good time for you to tell us how we're delusional to expect 60 FPS out of next gen and that the only way forward is an upgrade to pro.

I'm guessing that they released the game with locked 30 FPS mode because they simply didn't optimize it in time for the original release, and only now managed to polish it enough to make it run at stable 60. Honestly, that's not even that bad of an idea because at least it's a way to avoid bad press resulting from disappointing performance. It's probably what Jedi Survivor devs should've done as well.

Also, fuck Gotham Knights even more now, because there's no way these bozos will spend any amount of time trying to optimise that shitty ass game, lol.

It's almost like games running at 30FPS in 2023 is because of developer laziness/incompetence rather than the consoles not being able to do it.
Don't be so inflammatory. It's a demanding game, and there are compromises to be made for it to hit 60fps,
Calling a team incompetent and lazy when they launched a successful, highly reviewed title on multiple platforms is lame.

Doesn't look like that at all, looks like a significant drop in resolution to 1080p and reduction in foliage, probably more things going on to hit 60fps. But looks good still.
