About to try Demon’s Souls - any tips?

Did you get the Cling Ring in 1-1? Really important.

Yep -couldn’t work out how to get down the blue swirls near the entrance to the level which I assume leads to all the treasure in the left hand side or how to get through the locked door near the boss fog though!

So, update from last night's play if anyone's interested.
Defeated the Armour Spider fairly easily - once I realised you could hang around in the tunnel, dodge his attacks and just spam some magic attacks to win, he went down pretty easily. Wasn't the most interesting of fights really, but I did like the way it was introduced - the cobwebs all over the place were really atmospheric.

I then went further into Stonefang Valley which I really liked as a level design, even if I found the enemies somewhat boring to fight - the main enemies seem to be these glowing armadillos that are just a bit simplistic. I liked the trick with the glowing lights that explode and how you can use them to attack the other enemies in the world.

Having played Souls games before when the two red phantoms began to run down the corridor I realised that the game was probably trying to make new players think 'why are these two red people running down the corridor to me' but defeated both. Went into the Stonefang Tunnels proper and man, did I get lost. Had up to 10000 souls and died in one of those exploding large armadillo deaths - I'd recognised the tunnel down though, so was able to retrieve them and go back to the Nexus.

Thought I would check out the third archstone and was surprised to find myself in the Irithyll dungeon - sorry, I mean Tower of Latria! Pretty cool but didn't explore too much as it was getting late!

Oh, and met Patches. Really disappointed as I saw him waving and destroyed the large armadillo above him - went over to talk to him expecting the usual trinkets and kick, but he simply asked 'How did you do that?' and then turned up back at the Nexus! Still hates clerics though, so that's cool.

Again, liking it and it's so interesting seeing where it all started. I'm now using the Dragon Sword +1 in Latria which seems pretty strong and I'm using the Assassin's mask - I like fashion souls so I'm a little disappointed that there doesn't seem to be as many armour sets at the moment. Tried to do a couple of invasions myself but couldn't find a world to invade - was human for a long time in Stonefang but never got invaded once so I'm guessing the amount of players online is minimal. Really don't like that you can fall for what seems like forever and still not die - seems a bit silly at times!
