Microsoft rebranded the Xbox mission in this race as the "we want to embrace all gamers" platform. From mobile to console. They wanted to be everywhere with even the audacity to have their own services on rival hardware.

Theres a another group, actually 5 of them, that wants go embrace gaming aswell. FAANG.

In investments, stock, FAANG is an acronym for Facebook(now know as Meta) Amazon, Apple, Netflix and Google. All of them has or wants a hand, in their own way, both casual and hardcore, in gaming.


2020 covid 202, Metaverse.

Now the new buzzword is 'Metaverse", an amalgam of digital, virtual entertainment.

Theory

Microsoft sees FAANG as the rivals by making deal not in the grace of just gaming but for a foreseeing digital takeover. They are trying to acquire devs before FAANG does.

NFTs are "bread crumbs" to see who willing to participate in Metaverse.

Sony will have to face a chuck of it's casual market gone (2D) but in the bigger scale will also have to face not having a game pass like service (3D) and evn bigger scale, Metaverse (4D)
