Activision Blizzard Sued By California Over ‘Frat Boy’ Culture

In this case I think it is protections for conflicts of interest.
Like I said, I understand the rationale, but I still think its over-stepping and ultimately futile to make it a matter of policy.

I mean objectively if people want to hook-up, they are going to hook-up and just keep it on the down-low. It isn't a solution and in fact just displaces the problem.

Holy fuck this is shocking. Like you heard about Ubisoft but no leaks or rumors mentioned that this shit went down at Blizzard.
I won't be surprised if reports from EA come out of the same thing. I would not be surprised one bit. I can just imagine how toxic it can be for people to work at those companies. With no respect whatsoever. I know how that is. I'm even going through it myself. With the toxicity that occurs. Good thing I left.

Unfortunate she choose that path and shame on the abhorrent behavior and harassment from the co-workers.

EVERY SINGLE one of the men involved should be terminated.

And everyone needs to be reminded to keep their privates PRIVATE!

It's funny how they kick and boot everybody out with fake allegations that are proved wrong and never restore there reputation, but when they are themselves the focus its going full blown defense and fighting against it.

Maybe that sack of shit of a president can fire himself the same he does with everybody else?

But na, its getting to real now for them when there own heads are on the chopping blocks.

The cube crawl is insane. I have never seen that at any workplace.

Reminded me of this scene in Mad Men where they would chase women around and tackle them to the ground to see what color panties they were wearing. But that was in the early 60s.

Timestamped:

Cole Phelps getting a bit too frisky after his LAPD days…

Never knew that was a “thing” in the 60s.

If true, it shows yet again why these big corporations do so much virtue signalling, it's called misdirection, with more than a little hint of projection. I suspect we haven't even scratched the surface with what goes on in these big corporations.

Pulled up the YouTube app on my tv and one of the first videos that was recommended to me was Asmongold apparently going off on Blizzard. Which is nuts because he makes all of his money from playing WoW. Watching the video now, but the first 10mins so far has been straight fire.

For anyone who doesn't know Asmongold is a big WoW streamer and has been playing the game for like 15yrs.

You must‘ve missed the recent drama where Blizzard publicly called him an asshole and condoned harassment against him, leading him to play FFXIV.

Oh no I definitely saw that because it was all over the WoW reddit and I knew he has been playing Final Fantasy because it was all over...well everywhere, but I had him pegged as having a wait and see what happens attitude to this because he is historically a WoW junkie. He just burns them to the ground though. Props to him though for not being afraid to speak his mind about this and not sugarcoat it.

Honestly it might be the best take on the news I have seen because he just lays it out there and doesn't really try to play devil's advocate like some have. He just says where he is at and is done with it.

Asmon has such a way with captivating one's attention. Love him or hate him, he's got a knack for telling a story or making a point. I personally love him.
Yeah it's kind of funny. The guy admits he doesn't have much of a social life and stays inside all day, but somehow has a great way with words and has the rare ability to tell a story and make it fun even if it's not a fun story.

He can just...talk. and the fact he does it all while still playing the games and playing them well is nuts.

Normally I'd say innocent until proven guilty, but Blizzard decided to engage in the typical "listen and believe" and "guilty until proven innocent" behavior for giant companies these days.

So yeah, absolutely no sympathy and as they set the standard for, evidence or no evidence, guilty as charged Blizzard!

Well obviously!

The question is can you hold and employer responsible for it happening between staff outside of work.
Yes, you can.

If I understand correctly, people aren’t saying it’s okay to share nude. Why is Activision the corporation responsible for their employees revenge porn?
In my opinion, they are responsible if they knew a employee was sharing revenge porn of a colleague and did nothing meaningful. I haven't had a good chance to read the whole report yet.

This will come down on ActiBlizz, hard. Their gaming community is already demonstrating and I'm guessing Sony is preparing to cut all ties. When the court sees Bobby Kotick's bonus salaries and the major lay-offs in the departments of ActiBlizz, they're facing to pay multi-millions in compensation - like Bobby ain't gonna be boss no more.

That is what you get when get involved with Activision and Bobby Kotick.

Blizzard used to be a dream developer of games that I consider early masterpieces. They defined genres and they made quality games that became loved franchises cared for for decades.

Now they are a pile of garbage and it looks like the humans that still work there (thankfully all the Blizzard OGs already left this sinking ship) are just as garbage as the games have become.

Yes I am excited for Diablo 4, but holy hell if I could choose between Diablo 4 and having BlizzardActivision erased from the surface of the earth the choice would be pretty easy.

Many of my childhood heroes became the monsters I hate the most.

Good luck to the new studios from ex Blizzard OGs. I hope your passion can carry a new studios that is not for sale.

And fuck you Activision.

and there it is... without any evidence whatsoever you manage to blame the woman in this... you sir are what we call round these parts a cunt

I don't get the frat boy culture, sure in the office we all get on like lads, but the buck stops with the ladies ffs cause you know we all have respect for them and if some work colleague tried to show nudes of a female co-worker id personally march him by the throat into the directors office, have some fucking respect for our fellow humans

Same. I would not tolerate this shit. This isn't even about sexism. It's basic human dignity.

The most appalling part of this is the woman who committed suicide while on a Blizzard trip—with her alleged bully/ abuser passing around pictures of her vagina before said incident occured. I realize that this is a politically neutral space where we often discuss issues of race, gender, equality and equity (or at least are free to wander into said territory without fear of being banned), but this is a fairly clear-cut example of wide-spread abuse and harassment in the workplace being brought forth not by a private claimant but by the government themselves. They wouldn’t pursue this path without cause.

I think this spells the end for Blizzard. And it explains the decline in product quality when the leadership is so cancerous.

You believe that? No way Sony will cut ties with activation. That COD is a money printing machine for them. Especially since EA, and MS are on bed together.

I will agree with court though. They need to action against that fat bastard good for nothing, piece of garbage, waste of space need to go to a jail for this.

You can’t seriously believe this?

yes, I’m sure Sony can’t wait to cut ties with Activisions and allow MS to be the sole home of the Call of Duty franchise.

people who think this will mean the end of Acyivision or Blizzard are fooling themselves. At best the claimants will get paid, some people will get fired, Activision will ban inter-company relationships, and employees will have to go through a dozen more woke training seminars.

Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't Blizzard some of the ones talking about their inclusiveness and what not with games like Overwatch? Is this more proof of those who chant the loudest have the most to hide?

Blizzard maybe. Things like WoW, OverWatch, Diablo and others have lost a lot of popularity due to how Blizzard has been treating those franchises. Activision can easily just fully absorb them and be done with them, only using the IP that makes money. However, this could've been on Activision and they'd make it out without a scratch. Things like CoD are way too big at this point for it to matter. Plus a chunk of Activision's audience wouldn't care enough about their employees to stop buying their games.

Well let's see what actually happens in the lawsuit, I don't want to pick any sides until the verdict is in. Unfortunately we don't have any real insights what goes on behind Activision/Blizzard closed doors. Hopefully truth comes out and the right decisions are made going forward.

It all sounds terrible, and if true completely unacceptable and dues need to come.

However, like in a civilisation the legal matters including discovery need to be made plain before us.

buy it you are hurting the developers more thin the higher ups by not buying it.
It's one of those really difficult situations. It's sort of like restaurant tipping. Companies should ideally be paying enough such that tipping doesn't have to be essential to financially survive. I think if we really want greater change for developers and all kinds of labor that hasn't accounted for inflation in 30+ years, a much bigger machine has to be torn down and rebuilt. Where that begins? Man I have no clue. But if we want that better labor change, I think it will involve collateral damage and bravery to some extent.

Yeah acti blizzard can get absolutlry fucked for this. I hope the folks responsible lose their jobs.

All this grime coming out about different studios basically has resetera calling to ban discussion of every one of their games. Is it still a gaming forum when they arent allowed to talk about games? The truth is every studio has some dirty shit, all you can do is call it out and hope that those responsible pay the price

am i missing something? her nudes were sent around the office? i mean thats not the greatest thing in the world but also not horrible. sounds like she was sleeping with her boss and sending coworkers nudes….kinda dumb.

anytime anyone kills themselves is horrifying but i dont know this person and i dont want to put the weight of someone killing themselves on someone else if wht they did didnt warrant suicide.

what im saying is that whoever passed her nudes around shouldnt have to bear that burden. she was very likely already mentally disturbed if she killed herself over sexual harassment rather than just NOT sleeping with her boss and giving nudes out or just finding a new job.

who ever passed her nudes around is a grade a fucking creep. Thats a horrible embarrassing thing to have happen, that guy should live with this guilt for the rest of his life. Do i think nudes are a good idea? No, but if they are sent to someone in confidence, it does not give that person the right to give them to who ever he wants.
