Additional microtransaction(?) items found in latest Destiny patch?

Couple things:

The Valorous/Heuristic/Indomitable Light were Three of Coins-like buffs sold by the Speaker for Motes+Planetary Materials (I honestly don't remember exactly what they cost, [but it was never Silver] I can't keep the entire economy in my head) but for a variety of bug-related reasons they were removed. They were also - as has been pointed out - in the data files before TTK shipped.

Someone PM me when Zoba hasn't talked about TLW for a month (seriously, move on). Clock starts now ;b

Edit: not confirmed if these are microtransactions, or if they'll even be in the game for anyone to use at all. Let's see what Bungie says.

I'm honestly surprised they haven't started selling Legendary and Exotic Engram Packs, like those Supply Drops in Advanced Warfare that have a chance to unlock Elite Guns and equipment for you.

I know people will flip out, but meh, whatever. If people want to pay to speed things up I don't really care. As long as they don't start selling exclusive weapons and armor I couldn't care less.

I don't see the problem?

Stuff like people being able to pay to instantly level classes and get better drop rates on gear is far from cosmetics only. This stuff actually impacts gameplay

I'm not sure how I feel about it but we are starting to get on a slippery slope here

Not surprising at all, but they should have been more forthcoming that it wasn't just emotes.

FUCK YOU BUNGIE.

From greatness to mediocre in one game. Destiny is the most disappointed game of my life.

Could you be any more melodramatic?

So, nothing to worry about?
What's the problem?
I don't see the problem?

Game design can be affected by microtransactions like this. Whenever a publisher/developer knows they can make money off of impatient people they can/may design the game to take longer for certain things to happen to encourage microtransaction sales. Which sucks for those not wanting to be nickel and dimed or spend an exorbitant amount of time to keep up with others. Not saying that is what is happening here. But it sure looks like it.

Pay for loot chances. That's actually gross. And people will defend it.
I guess thats me! :)

You don't see the problem with a pay for loot system?

For the person who buys it. Don't see how it effects you.

Yeah, I think trivializing the loot is the line here and pretty negatively can affect the culture of a game, if not the "economy".

Paying real money to increase loot drop likelihood in the raid is complete bullshit.

I'm fine with the other stuff.

Can't say I'm surprised. Of course they were going to be selling more than just emotes, despite what they said. As long as it doesn't really have an effect on the gameplay itself outside of the purchases, then I'm not really concerned with it.

What I would really dislike is if they start selling weapons, armor, etc that can't be unlocked through normal gameplay. I'm okay with emotes, but would be strongly against the other.

Expected.
I mean pay to loot is not expected, it's really creative i must admit, but micros outside the cosmetic sphere were coming nonetheless.

Same here.
Also, this game is anti-social as anti-social gets. How the fuck is there no ingame tools for people to group with? I'm in GAF guild and I've basically never grouped with a single gaffer.

My best friend's husband has a Destiny group that he met online and are now good friends with in real life. Also there's many Destiny based groups out there that's doing fine.

I guess what matters is how social you want it to be.

It breaks the sense of discovery for the community and working hard to show off badass loot you've earned? When you see people with impressive gear collections its cool because you kmow they were earned.

People can now pay cash to get better loot drops now this giving them higher chances to have good weapons for both PvE and PvP. This affects the overall playerbase

So do I understand this correctly, you can pay to skip a bit of one of the main reasons to play the game you paid for?!

You need 340 light for a new fangled raid.

340 items have a 20% drop rate in the previous raid, but this fancy $0.99 item will make it 100%.

Better pay up if you want to keep up with your friends, or else they'll leave you behind.

The increased chances of getting loot from King's Fall sounds a lot like the 3 of Coins, which means people will go broke because only 1 out of 20 will actually work.

Some of these were added in the patch and there are other consumables that have been in the DB for a bit, but why are people making the jump to these being microtransaction items? It would make ZERO sense to offer a *MOLDERING SHARD* consumable for money/Silver. Or even a Cabal XP 10 min consumable. These items would literally make zero sense from a mtx point of view.

I'm only worried that they will start to lower drop rates and stuff, they're already reducing the amount of Strange Coins and Motes of Light you can obtain from the latest patch. Wouldn't surprise me if they lowered drop rates so they can get people to buy these P2Loot items.

Leveling up a class is whatever, but I do understand the concern that loot will normally be less frequent in order to entice the use of microtransactions.

We'be seen it a bit with the decrease in notes and coins, but that's only cause they were giving way too much (I would have over 100 each in a week).

Other than that we haven't seen evidence of them lowering current loot drops

No, there should be an ingame LFG system, and that's all there is to it.

it hasn't been confirmed whether or not these are new consumables to be added to the game through in game channels or with real money. Nowhere in the datamine does it confirm either end.

The class tokens/subclass infusions I can see but the other ones seem like something that can be sold at Xur, similar to that Needle stuff they're gonna be adding to his inventory.

I'm as wary as the next guy but there's zero confirmation anywhere as to how we will be obtaining these consumables.

Because now that it's become a source of income, loot drops and grinds will be designed with microtransactions in mind. That means for the "free" players, everything's bumped up to push you towards paying. It's happened in a lot of other microtransactions games, including MGS V most recently (resource grinding was absolutely skewed to make you buy additional FOBs for instance)

To be honest I don't think Bungie is stupid enough to go Asian MMO Grind level of idiocy, so you guys shouldn't worry much.

Have they ever, btw?

If someone doesn't see how increased loot percentage can't affect the game's design in the present or the future, they have no right to act smug about it.

I would love to hear Bungie's response as to how that's still just cosmetics only.

What do you think vanilla Destiny was? :P

Ah, if they can be earned in game I'm cool with all of it tbh

For the person who buys it. Don't see how it effects you.

They have a financial incentive to adjust drop rates to make it appealing to buy the boost, making it a worse experience for anyone avoiding buying microtransactions. This is the path in every game with these microtransactions, and it will happen with Destiny, but every single time there are people lacking critical thinking who scream why does it matter.

I gave Destiny a new try with the expansion, after all the praise it got, then immediately dropped it once microtransactions were announced. Once that starts obviously it will lead here.
