Admit it. What popular franchises havent you played?

Quite a few:

Bioshock 1/2 - Generally don't care for shooters so I skipped these. I rented Bioshock Infinite and am playing through it now (near the end) and though it's somewhat interesting, it's not the mind blowing experience I was lead to believe it was (story and narrative wise) so I'm not gonna go back and play the previous two.
Halo & Gears of War Series - I've dabbled in a few levels and MP here and there but I've never played any game through.
Most Other Shooters (COD, Battlefield, Half-Life, Dead Space, ect.) - No interest. I'll play the occasional stealth or RPG-hybrid shooter but generally speaking, I don't care for shooter gameplay.
Uncharted 2/3 - Played the first Unchrated, got bored halfway through, haven't played the others.
Puzzle Platformers in General (Tomb Raider, Sly Cooper, Castlevania, ect.) - Just a genre that I've grown increasingly less interested in as I get older.
Dragon Quest Series - I just find them incredibly boring. 8 wasn't horrible but I still couldn't make it to the end and I've completed some pretty mediocre RPGs (Arc Rise Fantasia comes to mind). Something about the DQ series just bores me to tears.
All Real-Time Strategy Games (Total War Series, Starcraft, ect.) - I like turn-based strategy games but I don't think/react fast enough for the real-time games.
Nintendo Franchises since GCN to present - I played a little bit a Zelda TP but I've ultimately just given up on these games. I was never a huge fan of them in the past but I did get enjoyment out of them. I don't think they're bad games, they just don't appeal to me anymore (to me, they're all variations of puzzle platformers/environmental puzzles, which is a genre that doesn't interest me).
Minecraft - Honestly, just haven't bothered to try it.
Assassin's Creed Series - I love the design of the assassin's robes/cowl/whatever but for some reason, the games just never appealed to me.
Monster Hunter Series - The combat sounds fun but killing the same boss 50 times over does not. Game sounds way too repetitive for my taste.
Diablo (and it's clones) - I don't mind loot-whoring but I can't stand the combat systems in these games. It's just not fun imo.
LOL/DOTA/HON/ect. - I'm just not a very competitive person. The games seem somewhat interesting though.

Silent Hill
Metal Gear/Solid
Zone of the Enders
Suikoden
Castlevania

^ lol all konami games

Others include

Fire Emblem
Mass Effect
Bioshock
Batman (Arkham series)
Borderlands
Fallout
Elderscrolls

Any MOBA. I just have no interest in them, and their communities don't help.

Have only played one Battlefield game, and that was ages ago and not for very long.

Haven't played any of the Crysis games either.

Only one I can think of it Infamous off the top of my head. I at least try popular games, even if I don't finish them.

I don't understand how someone can be a gamer and have no interest in certain genres at all. Give them a shot, they'll probably change your mind. It's rare that a game receives universal praise for multiple iterations if it isn't worth your time.

If you don't like it, you can always sell it to another GAFfer or just rent it! Never played a Civ game? Well shit, Civ 5 has been on sale frequently for $5-$10. You spend that on lunch every day most likely. I mean some of this stuff is mindblowing!

Assassin's Creed
Gears of War
Disgaea
Paper Mario
Killzone
Bioshock
Dead or Alive
Splinter Cell
Theif
Mass Effect

That's about all I can think of off the top of my head. I make the effort to try the best each genre has to offer and there's a lot still in my backlog. I do have the intention to try many (if not all) of these series at some point but for now I have other things to get to.

Tomb Raider
Battlefield
Mass Effect
Hitman
Fire Emblem

Those are the biggest ones just off the top of my head. It's actually sad how many games I've played over the years.

Its not about turning your nose up at entire genres, its about the amount of money you have to spend to experience them. For me to get the ultimate Civ experience, I'd need a new PC I think. That ain't happening. Same goes for Zelda and a Wii/U, and Halo and an Xbox

edit: Oh yeah, I haven't played Tomb Raider aside from that (awesome) Lara Croft game. Gonna get the new one when I have time to play it though.

I still have yet to play a God of War game. I have no idea why as I have always had an interest in them, it just never came to be. I think I will pick up those HD collections and rectify this however.

There's franchises I've never played at all (COD, Gears), and then there's franchises where I tried and hated it after a few hours (all MMOs, Assassin's Creed, Dragon Age, Elder Scrolls, God of War, MGS, etc.)

i like to explore lots of things so most of the stuff listed i've at least tried but i haven't played -

fire emblem - might rectify this with the 3ds version
all the blizzard stuff - no real interest
any lords management - too intimidating
battlefield - not a huge multiplayer fps person, only enjoy halo really and the single player always sounds rubbish
yakuza - keep meaning to try this

It's hard to imagine for me as someone who will always buy all the systems the concept of someone not having a Nintendo console at some point in their life. I guess if you're a 15 year old kid in Europe who has only had a Playstation then that's one thing, but if you're an adult who games and you haven't played a Mario title.. time to re-think your priorities! The third party situation has been dire for a very long time, but you're going to get at least 10-15 masterpieces from them alone so it's worth your time at some point during the system's life.

The Civ games aren't graphics intensive by any means.. anyone with a PC (or Mac even) can play them in an acceptable capacity.

Most of the big Msoft first party games which includes Gears of War, Forza Project Gotham Racing, Amped, etc.

I played A ink To the Past when it comes to Zelda and I have played Chains of Olympus when it comes to God of War.

Splinter Cell, Silent Hill, Grand Theft Auto (except for bursts and then I didn't like any of them) All of Sandbox games, Most of EA high budget games like Dead Space, Skate, Medal of Honor, etc...

Any MMO ever
Half-Life
Mega Man
Castlevania
Dragon Quest
Pikmin
Shin Megami Tensei
Tomb Raider
Bioshock
Mortal Kombat
Tales

I find Mario's artstyle garish aside from Paper Mario, so that wipes out every reason to buy a Nintendo console aside from Zelda, since Metroid Prime appears to be dead.

Basically just about almost every cover shooters but Mass Effect. Never really did care for bald marine and chest high wall.

Dota looks too intimidating

Zelda and Metroid come to mind. Never had access to Nintendo consoles until this gen and the stuff that came out on wii I just forgot to play :/

Halo
Gears of War
League of Legends/Heroes of Newearth/MOBA titles generally
Killzone
Call of Duty
Hitman
Max Payne
Splinter Cell
Dead or Alive
Tomb Raider

I dunno what else.

Persona

I got Persona 4 unopened on my PS2, i am not a anime fan, so i am really scared that i will just lose interest instantly. Just the basic look of the characters will most likely make me turn it off

Madden

Not that odd since i am from Europe, and i bet plenty of euros have not even touched a single game. I do not even know what the basic rules of this "football" are

Pikmin

Just have not tried any of them, does not sound like a game i would even enjoy

For me, it's because I'm a gamer and have been for some time that I've come to realize what genres I like and don't like. I know I don't like shooters and platformers so in general, I tend to avoid them but that isn't a value statement on the quality of games in those genres.

As I stated in an earlier post, I'm playing through Bioshock Infinite now despite it being a shooter because I wanted to know what all the fuss was about. Now while I find the story and setting to be intriguing, it is not enough to make up for the fact that the majority of the game is spent in combat and the combat is the least interesting aspect of that game for me. For a game more pure to it's genre, like COD, I don't need to play it because I know from experience with other shooters that I won't like the game. It possibly being a better shooter than others doesn't change the fact that the core gameplay is something I don't enjoy.

Genres typically define the thing you will be doing the most in the game (which will usually be some form of combat or platforming) and if a player doesn't find whatever that thing is to be enjoyable, they are going to find it very difficult to enjoy any other aspects of the game, regardless of how good they may be.

Legend of Zelda

Mario

I know, fuck me right. I've played half a dozen obscure Eastern European games, but I haven't even played 10 minutes of a Zelda.

I have this problem a lot with games, as well.

I couldn't finish Uncharted 1, let alone try Uncharted 2 or 3, because I hated when the game forced me into shootouts.
